I'm backkkk (like Arnold lol)
So enjoyed my walk with the Hatters this morning; loved chatting with you guys as we walked (ok, the conversation was in my head.. but at least I didn't have it out loud this morning, so nobody looked at me funny LOL...
MY IPOM: I walked 4.8 kilometers this morning!!
I used the distance markers this morning (but I still set my phone to time for an hour as usual) just to try to get an idea of how far I was going.. only 1/2 of the trail has the distance marked, so I just kept doing that 1/2 and figured out the time it took me to do 3 rounds, then equalled the same time and speed around the rest of the park... and who knew.. I actually completed 4.8km.. which in my little head.. is almost 5km... I am still in a little shock, I never really looked at the distance travelled, and hearing our Hatters like Bis who have done distance walks had me thinking I might try one maybe next year.. but now I'm thinking.. maybe.. I will try to set a goal for THIS year to do a 5km walk.. an official one that is lol.. im sure there's gotta be one going somewhere in the city.. I havent decided for sure but after this morning, I'm thinking its completely doable this year... so I'm claiming my IPOM because I AM proud of me today... (last night I did a dive bomb into a complete emotional binge.. and was completely conscious of it because I had to get in the car and DRIVE to the store to get it... sigh.. I actually ate the stuff before I could talk myself out of it because I was having a bad moment emotionally... it was hard admitting an old habit still hasnt been broken, but I know that it's happening less often, and I'm conscious of making the decision, even though I'm disappointed in myself for giving in. But, that was yesterday and I hopefully learned from it, so it's off the radar and not even in my sight line today so it's all good!!
Hoping all the hatters have a wonderful day... I'm off shortly after the last eyedrop (still on the routine for another 10 days til the next procedure) and keep forgetting to sched the 40 min needed to get em all in ... lol0 -
Sorry I've been off the radar lately. Been real busy, but hanging in there! The foods I cannot get myself to eat are tomatoes (they make me gag just mentioning them!) and fish. However, I do love shellfish. Go figure. Scallops are my all time favorite dinner!
I'd love to join you on your walks but 6:15am is 3:15 am here in Oregon! That's a little too early for me! So I'll be tagging behind quite a way bringing up the rear. I try to get in early am (for me) around 8 or 9am pacific time. It's been way to hot much later than that lately!
Sounds like all is well in Hatterville!
Have a great day all!0 -
Another food aversion bites the dust. I had fruit salad and I ate the cantaloupe! I am not going to start eating it by itself. But I am not going to pick it out or reject a fruit salad because it is in there. For a long time, I wouldn’t even eat a fruit salad if the fruit had been contaminated by contact with the cantaloupe. Major step for me.
Cantaloupe memory. When my youngest was about 10 (old enough to know better), she was horrified when her father was eating cantaloupe at dinner. She asked how he could possibly eat that. I was worried she had picked up my aversion to a perfectly good fruit. She had definitely eaten cantaloupe before. When we asked her to explain what her problem was, she asked “didn’t you see how beautiful they were today?” Still puzzled we asked where she had seen cantaloupe. She said, “you know when we were on the safari at Animal Kingdom.” We finally realized that she thought my husband had ordered antelope. 11 yrs. later we still tease her about it.
I was out walking at lunch time, but I must have just missed the Hatter expedition, I didn’t find any of you.
In another MFP group someone was talking about the “deprivation” of tracking healthy food. I think the key is not to think of the unhealthy foods that you are not eating and think instead about all the marvelous foods that you had been ignoring.
Walking back with a bag containing my chopped salad and my fruit salad inclusive of cantaloupe, I had two separate conversations with two people who worked in my building who were getting burgers at the burger truck. Neither of these people had commented on my weight loss, I don’t really talk to them that much. I didn’t mention food. But both people asked me what I was having for lunch and where I had bought it, because separately they each said “I am sure it is healthier than the burger and fries I am getting.”0 -
so trying to stay strong... work is work.... ugh... must stay away from the chocolate.... luckily doing the dreadmill and will have 982 cals avail...ugh ugh ugh0

Hi Friends,
I have been in a bit of a rut...picked up a head cold . Have not been able to work out due to many different reasons and some Iof them would not call a good excuse. Just plain dont feel good. I am a little disappointed in myself as my weight loss has come to a standstill. I am going on vacation starting Saturday and I will try to watch my calorie intake dispite the fudge shop and yummy bakery shop. I know this is temporary, so I will keep on keepin on.
Snoozie, a favorite thing for me to eat some nights is to take some Italian seasoned turkey sausage and start throwin in veggies and spices. Garlic, tomatoes, black olives, green peppers, italian seasonings, a dash of wine, and serve over some whole wheat penne pasta. yummy serve it with a salad! Another favorite ground turkey and taco seasons, fat free sour cream and lettuce tomato and black olives...throw it in a whole wheat tortilla yum Linda0 -
 @ HSH and the "contaminated".. I actually did laugh out loud when I read that.. TOO funny on the antelope.. I'll share my duck pie story one day! My dad used to eat canteloupe in cottage chesee and the smell alone would make me gag.. never ate it until a few years ago and now I love it..
cbm hang in there petal..... just think of all the yummy GOOD for you food you can eat with 982 calories!!!! Hide the choc and dive into something yummy and satisfying (yeah I know.. choc is both those LOL).. but you can eat a lot MORE of something else.. does that work?? LOL
Linda... lovely to see you, but feel so bad for you feeling under the weather; doing anything when you're sick sucks.. let alone working out!! Don't stress too much about it while on vacation (stress adds fat to your belly area!); just aim for the 80/20 rule maybe and if you're feeling up to it, get a little extra walking in while you're gone and you'll have a great time without worrying about the weight! Feel better soon! and thanks for the lovely suggestion.. I DID laugh tho when reading the first one... once I get past 2 or 3 ingreds I'm lost.. (I hate cooking...) and as I was reading it I was thinking omg...omg... and then I'd have to cook the pasta...!! Too funny, but very much appreciate the idea; have never tried turkey sausage so about time I venture into the unknown!0 -
@ hairspray & snoozie - Very Proud of Me - did the dreadmill....we had Shania Twain & Johnny Cash - Man I feel like a woman & I walk the line....
45 mins / 5 min cool down / 1.0 incline / 2.78 miles....
had the apple after - and it wasn't poisoned so am on here now...0 -
Yes, I’m a woman.
I push doors that clearly say PULL. I laugh harder when I’m trying to explain why I’m laughing. I walk into a room and forget why I was there. I count on my fingers in math. I hide the pain from my loved ones. I say it is a long story, when it’s really not. I cry a lot more than you think I do. I care about people who don’t care about me. I try to do things before the microwave beeps. I listen to you even when you don’t listen to me. And a hug will always help. Yes, I’m a woman and proud to be one!

 huge IPOU cbm!!!! and great choice on the tunes ..both favourites!!! Awesome work on the t/mill AND on choosing the apple LOL... WELL DONE!!0

Oh my goodness what a day. All day in meeting with HARD SEATS !!!!!!!!!!! Top that off with I stopped up the laminating machine yesterday so bad that it took them until today to fix it  They had to cut it out by strips. Needless to say that all went in the garbage so my room is minus a few stars. As if that wasn't enough I forgot today was open house and didn't take enough food to bid me over BUT I waited starving until I got home
I miss my ladies and getting to do more than just post a brief blitz but going to have a snack and call it a night. Have to get in the routine again.0 -
So happy to have so much company on my walks. I went for one this evening as well, needed to get something in the mail right away so decided to walk to the post office. Snooozie IPOU for thinking of a 5k walk. You are doing so well. I do suggest you look into what the charity is & how much $$ it really gets (remember my $50 fee & only $1 went to the charity) Right now I am looking into one that benifits Dana Farber Cancer center. It is either a full or half marathon walk, Not sure if my foot is up to it & checking a little more into how much really goes to the charity.
For anyone that wants to check their time and/or distance if you have a smart phone there is a free app called map my run. It calculates your time & distance for you & has some other features as well. I used it a couple of times, but to be honest I am not as concerned about my time, but down loaded it as I was curious about my distance.
Patrice, mmm scallops are my favorite as well. As a New Englander I love most all seafood, not particularly fond of lobster or steamed clams.
Well, hope everyone has a fabulous evening.0 -
HS, I love the antelope story. Reminds me when my son was about 5yo & asked me to, "put some deer in his hair" (he ment mousse).:laugh:0
-
@ snoozie - thank you for the positive comments - and everything you said about "being a woman" is so true.
Do you do the turn around and come back in the room to remember? I know I do....
had a positve comment on my post

As per our topic, I'm getting up and going!! Heading out for my walk and will check in when I get back for brekkie - figured I'd just keep the thread going since its only 2 pages and not hard to navigate and easy for any MIA Hatters to catch up lol.. thanks for starting it Tues Janet!
Have sneakers.. will travel...0 -
Good Morning my Mad Hatter friends, oh how I have missed you. Was on vacation from 8/4 until 8/14. Then we had a funeral to attend out of town. Somehow, I managed to drag my butt into work today. Have a video conference in a bit but will be checking in throughout the day. Thank goodness I will have two days off after this. I think I could get used to the vacation/retirement life! If I win the lottery I will be buying a small island in the South Pacific for all of us to live. If not, then hopefully in a few years I will have a house on AMI so that I can walk the beaches every morning and evening. I hope you all have a marvelous day.0

Good morning Hatters!
Lets do a play list for a Satuday walk, everyone who is walking, running, biking, swimming or moving in anyway tomorrow, post 2 songs, I will compile the list tonight, so we can all move together to our mix tape. . Remember we need a warm up and a cool down song, so a slower tempo song is ok.
I know the rest of the day I am going to be swaying to I Feel Like a Woman, which is a good thing thanks for planting it in my brain during our walk Carol! Need to think about my songs for tomorrow,I will check my record collection(remember those!)
Linda, sorry you have a head cold to start vacation. Have a wonderful time, may you bring home great memories. Vacation does have lots of opportunities for extra calories, but also extra time for movement to shake those calories away.
Snoozie, of all the walks yours always sounds the most scenic.
I read a good article (http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/2012-07-21/health/la-he-cravings-20120721_1_food-cravings-chocolate-chip-cookies-robert-lustig/2) about cravings and the difference between saying “I don’t” versus saying “I can’t” when dealing with food. I know in my office if it is a birthday and I say “I don’t eat carrot cake” no one will offer me a second piece. But if I would say “I can’t have that carrot cake because it is over my calorie limit” people will try to persuade me to eat “just a little” Apparently the same is true with our brains, if we think “I don’t eat x”, our brain will change topics and think of something else. But it we think “I can’t have that cake, but I really wish I could because it would taste so good”, our brain will keep thinking about it and come up with reasons to indulge.
Looking forward to your song selections.0 -
Yes I have walked into a room and forgot what I went in there for and went back to the first room to see what I need to get .
I've got another kid story for you. When my oldest daughter was about 7 we were bottle feeding some calves. I needed to give them some pills. My daughter told me to put in some bologna for them. I tell her that won't work. She said that is the way we give medicine to our dogs. I love the simple way kids think.
Welcome back to all the Hatters
I like the sound of a play list for our walks.
Well I need to get off here and see what I can get done today. Will check in later.
Have a great day everyone.0 -

Good morning Hatters!
Happy Friday to everyone…bet there’s a lot of happy campers in the Hatters today!
This morning I went for my walk at the lake, and although I had to push myself, I made it just over the 5km mark, and IPOM for not giving up when I was half way through  (quite frankly I wanted to just stop and lay down right there on the pavement on the second time around; especially once I realized by just doing the marked path instead of the whole trail, it’s the part that’s got the two hills in it LOL..
I’ve been a little frustrated the past few days, especially when it said I had logged in for 40 days.. that’s almost six weeks and I had hoped to see a little more progress in weight loss by now just based on having the 500 deficit a day, and even without having been able to walk fast for a few weeks it seemed I should have lost a bit more poundage. But I went back through my diary and have realized a few things; one of which is that I’m still eating a lot of “legit” snacks (legit being within my calorie goal) but a lot of those are processed foods..empty calories nutrition wise… and I’m honestly not sure if I’m eating them just so I can “feel” like I had a treat (which is NOT where I want to be mentally.. because it still implies the “d” word is ingrained in there.. or because I really wanted something “treatish”. So I’m going to try to pay more attention to that aspect of my eating, and try to up the fresh veg and fruit more. I still haven’t started the resistance band exercises…I seem to have some kind of mental block there I haven’t figured out yet… except for hating exercise..so that might be it.. I dunno) but I am going to set that as a goal to begin today. I am finding the logging is helping a lot in learning how much I’m eating and where I’m getting my calories, and as well being able to look through it and see where perhaps I could improve has helped lessen the frustration so it’s all good.
Bis: I never even knew til I met you that you had to PAY to take part in any kind of organized walk lol, so I’ll be sure to investigate the $$ if I do participate. But I also realized last night that I had gotten distracted by the distance thing, and taken my eyes off my actual goal of losing weight and getting healthy, so I’m putting that on the back burner for now and just concentrating back on getting in my 30 min of movement every day and eating better
CBM: I don’t think I go back into the room; I probably should.. I tend to stop in my tracks when I realize I forgot whatever it was.. and stay there like a statue trying desperately to remember LOL.. have a blast tonight at the zumbathon; can’t wait to hear how it went!
Tonya! Welcome back – we missed ya but glad you enjoyed! Reserve me a seat on that island please – I am counting the days (ok.. years.. but still lol) to retirement and part of why I’m changing my lifestyle now is so that I CAN enjoy it!!
Hairspray: I’m in for Saturday!! But my walk won’t happen til I get home from work; about 2:30pm here. I’ll opt for “Hooked on a Feeling” for my playlist please! And if you need another; I like bopping to the “Daydream believer” version…by the Monkees LOLOL! I do wish I had a cellphone with a camera sometimes; it is a beautiful walk and would like to share it… but alas… my old cell still has an antenna on it LOLOL..
I really appreciated that article you mentioned right now; I think that’s part of my brain I need to work on. I saw a show the other day too where they talked about deciding on the “splurgability” of a food… ask yourself if its something you REALLY want to waste calories on; they used a slab of store bought sheet cake as an example; it is sickly sweet and processed and generally pretty icky; and do you really want to use a “splurge” on THAT? They suggested instead choosing something homemade that you really love, i.e., if someone brings in home made chocolate chip cookies at work, and you’re a cookie freak, choose one of them to use a splurge on instead.. I’m not sure that would work for me as no doubt I would use it as an excuse, but on the other hand, because where I work there are always tons of crappy stuff like donuts and muffins and chocolates being brought in, I did make a rule a few months ago that I won’t eat anything store bought; if someone makes something I will indulge in a small bit if it’s something I really like, but everyone is used to it now and just says “oh right, you don’t eat store bought” and goes away lol. But my area has always tended to be the “dumping ground” for any treats brought in.. I have a long counter behind me (thank goodness my back is to it) where everyone passes by, so that’s become the unofficial treat dumping ground. I’ve tried moving the stuff but it always ends up back there so the “no store bought” was my last resort lol.
Cheryl: HOWLING at the bologna….. out of the mouths of babes! I used to hide pills in a slice of cheese for my dog; but one day I watched her eat the whole slice, then calmly spit the pill out the side of her mouth….
Well, have a day of house cleaning, laundry and eventually groceries to get to. Thanks to the Hatters for the dinner suggestions; looking forward to trying some!
Merobi: glad you got your daughter all moved in! Way to burn the calories.. 3rd floor? Yikes!
T2: hope you get a chance to pop in at work; how are things going in your neck of the woods? Miss ya!
looking forward to tomorrow’s walk with everyone, I'll check in tonight for the whole playlist
