TODAY'S the day

So, I'm up and ready to start. I've got my weigh in today and wasn't very happy. I'm up quite a bit. I knew I would be since I had a whirlwind anniversary weekend full of fair/festival foods. I'm ready to go though. NOT looking forward to the veggie juice this morning. Hubby said "hold your nose and you'll be fine"..LOL love that skinny little man. He has no clue what it's like to battle weight but he's so supportive of me.

Best Wishes to everyone. Cann't wait to see how the day goes.

  • yay!! its already 2pm here where i am. So far so good on my 1st official day :) i had eggs and bacon for breakfast and salmon and broccoli for lunch.
  • Best to those that are starting today...I am on day two and feel pretty good...managed to get some sleep...that is always a good sign.

Remember to eat your snacks...they are mandatory...a bit of protein (one ounce with veggies) or anything on the approved list...keeps you going ... especially cuz some of you workout so hard.

Post questions and concerns when they arise (or message any of us)...someone will be by to help you out. Off to get that juice in me and then onto the treadmill. Have a great day everyone!

ETA: Tempted to get on the scale today (I weighed in yesterday)...but I am going to trust in the program and weigh in once a week...this is my second time on P1 ... first was in 2008 and I was always so amazed to see the pounds continue to come off...not huge numbers...but consistent...always losing. Even when I entered P2. It was just when I got sloppy with the dos and don'ts that I stopped losing and then this last year, actually gained.

I'm so excited to be on this plan with all of you! I went ahead and started yesterday for a kick-start, but counting today as Day 1!

My snacks for the day: HB eggs (2), Morningstar farms bacon strips (love those!) and a serving of almonds. For dinner, I'm planning on grilled chicken thighs.

One piece of advice: plan your meals and have protein on-hand so that you don't cave!

    VEGGIES ARE OUR FRIENDS !

OK, so far, so good ..... had breakfast, snack & lunch ..... dinner's in the slowcooker ..... did 10 mins of yoga earlier .... going to the gym later for cardio, weights & maybe a yoga class ..... then watching football tonight.

B-coffee w/skim milk , and 1 HB egg, 1 slice LF provolone, and 1.5 cups of red & green peppers and tomatoes
    S-cottage cheese, V8
L-London broil, roasted chickpeas, 2 cups of roasted broccoli & tomatoes
    S-cheesestick
    D-chili (turkey-veggie-bean) and a side salad

I had lost 40+ lbs eating SB, then maintained for a long time ...... now I want to lose a bit more ..... starting weight is 150.5# ..... and my goal is 140#

Hope everyone has a beachy day :drinker:

@ verptwerp.. what are you having in the slow cooker?

I need recipes.. I don't want to be bored or dread these two weeks! I'm a huge fruit fan so this is gonna be hard. Please help me!

    To: KimberErin:

I meant to say "ground turkey-veggie-chili" in the slowcooker ...... I brown up ground turkey in a skillet with cumin, chili, etc ..... then brown some chopped onions & green peppers ...... put in the slowcooker with canned (drained & rinsed) red kidney beans, black beans, some chilies, and plain tomato sauce (canned is fine) ..... it's mostly cooked already, so 4 hours on high was plenty ..... but 8 hours on low would work .....

My husband adjusted the seasonings towards the end & took FULL credit for a delicious meal

BTW, I love fruit too ...... but I'm a big girl ...... I can deal with it !

No one HAS to drink tomato juice or vegetable juice for breakfast ...... it's loaded with sodium anyway ..... you can always have a half-cup of veggies instead ........ slice up some red peppers, or sautee onions & mushrooms ...... do it ahead of time, cuz mornings are often a mad rush :drinker:

I can't drink veggie juice personally I just can't get it down without pluggin my nose, lol.

@KimberErin - If you download the SBD app on your smart phone (assuming you have a smart phone) cost $1.99 and so worth all the recipes and what to eat and what not to on each phase. Also here is a link to recipes:

    http://www.kalynskitchen.com/2006/09/south-beach-diet-information-posts-on.html

Although I haven't been feeling well the last couple days I have a great day on SBD today. I was getting worried that my boneless chicken breasts were getting old to me b/c I didn't have a condiment, I am missing my ketchup or ranch or honey mustard. So I discovered that worcershire sauce is allowed and it was excellent!!!

    Nite all
  • Well, great...I like the V8...but not as much as my green smoothies...(but those have fruit in em...two weeks is not that long to wait)...so V8 it is for twelve more days.

I did ok today...way too much peanut butter. Need to weigh it...not measure it...too easy to go overboard.

Working the next four days...so lots of prepping at night.

    Good job everyone...sweet dreams...c u tomorrow.

    Tue 09/18/12 01:18 PM

    My plan for todays meals:

    B: Broccoli cheese casserole
S: deli turkey, tomato slices and mayo
L: Tuna , lettuce, oil & vinegar dressing, green olives, lemon juice
S: Natural peanut butter & Ricotta (going to mix these together as a test)
D: baked asparagus and chicken breast
D: glass of milk or fudge pop NSA

    15 CUPS OF WATER
  • I admire you peanut butter people...I went over first two days. So none today. I have always tried to have it in the house...with no success...I was just too darn weak...

This time, I am going to have it again in a day or two and weigh it. If I use the measuring spoon, I get too liberal. Ahhh, that little bit won't hurt...and that little bit...

For now, I will use those adorable little LC wedges for my celery.

Hope your ricotta pb mixture is a hit, determined!

I did South Beach in the spring of 2005 before my wedding. I lost about 18 pounds total but the first two weeks were the most crucial for sure! The rest just came off with little effort but the first two weeks I was really impressed by my loss and my overall feeling.

Thanks Laura Your post was motivational. Phase one is tough, but will be so worth it. If I can eat chicken and veggies while my husband and step son ate a papa johns pizza in front of me last night I can do this thing and do it well.

I'm really embarrassed to say I already caved :( I went out for lunch with people to a deli and got carried away. Damn it.

Can I erase today? I've felt super bad about it all day...I did so great these last two days!

I've been really good, otherwise, and not going to let this indiscretion ruin this for me.

Mostly I want to apologize to all of you, who are trying so hard, for being so weak in the face of the first of many, many challenges....
  • First of all you do not have to feel embarrassed...otherwise, we all will be blushing at some time. And you do not have to apologize. You owned up to your "indiscretion" and now are back on track.

My only advice would be to stick to your guns when you go out with your pals...make something on that menu work for YOU and do not cave to the situation...cuz there are going to be so many more.

I will have to use this advice later in the month...the party people are coming back to the Arizona (in Canada now) and we go out all the time...I plan on being really strong and taking you all along with me.

    Strength in numbers!

Yes, apology needed. I have my first test Saturday as I am going to a bday party and there will be NOTHING there I can eat so I will either have to eat before or take something with me or both. Lol, I guess I need to have something for a backup just in case I get antsy while everyone is enjoying cake and ice cream and pizza.

Hi, everyone! Positive Polly here :) I took the day off to really meditate yesterday....shut the phone off, went to the lake. We're starting fertility acupuncture and realized I am hypothyroid (actually have been, for a while). Tuesday was just really emotional - this whole baby making journey is not easy when you're not that person who decides to get pregnant and has a baby 9 months later, as planned. Bi was mad at myself for not seeking treatment for the hypothyroid, as it seems that it is quite a common cause of infertility. Could I already have had a baby by now? I'll never know.

Most importantly, I was told I need to meditate, maybe take yoga, run...do anything to get my mind off of trying to conceive and to relieve the stress. The acupuncturist basically told me I have a severe anxiety disorder and I need to realize life isn't in my control...I have panic attacks weekly. I pretty much live in a state of fear that people I love will die, we'll be broke, I'll never have kids, etc. It's a panicked feeling I experience constantly, and since the whole "relax, it'll happen" thing does have some truth to it (stress = cortisol = no ovulation...which is one of my problems), she thinks it's playing a role in my difficulty in getting pregnant.

Sorry, that was probable more info than anyone needs!!!

    Anyway, plan for the day:
B: 2 eggs, 4 strips Morningstar bacon, coffee - DONE!
L: Panera bread soup and salad (work lunch, not sure what will be available to eat) - had black bean soup and a veggie salad
    D: tri tip with veggies!

Saying no to the: peach cobbler, coffee cake, ice cream, brownies and cookies sitting 5 feet away....

Hey girls! Glad everyone is doing well so far. Eddymeese- So sorry, hun, that you are having to go through all this. Good for you, though, for not turning to food for comfort.

I've done well for 5 days. I had a NSV tonight as I was invited to go out to eat with a group of people from my TOPS meeting. Someone suggested Arby's and I knew there would be nothing there I could eat so I suggested a steak house (Western Sizzlin) so I could choose a lean steak and veggie side. We ended up going to the steak house and I did get a steak with steamed broccoli on the side and a side salad. They brought the rolls to the table and although I kinda wanted one, the desire was not enough to cave. Also I chose sugar free jello from the dessert bar. Yay Victory!! But I am getting a little discouraged because I did cave and weighed this morning and I'm not down much at all. At my TOPS (taking off pounds sensibly) meeting, I only lost 3/4 lb from 2 weeks ago! Ugg. I'm gonna keep trucking though.

    Hi, y'all !

Would like to contribute more here, but can't keep my eyes open

I will say ...... it's been a circus at work this week ...... several times I found myself thinking about chocolate candy bars ...... but sanity prevailed & I settled for some plain yogurt with sugar-free orange marmalade & a sprinkle of almonds .......... so far, so good ........

Hope everyone has a great weekend :drinker:
