What do you consider curvy?

With respect to our friend that posted about the term 'curvy' and a comment by Meesha saying that there is a disconnect between what men and women consider curvy. I thought I'd do a survey
This lady is what I consider curvy (and gorgeous!)

Thoughts? Votes? Your own images of curvy? :flowerforyou:

I consider curvy/voluptuous to be Kim Kardashian, Beyonce, Christina Hendricks, Selma Hayek, Scarlett Johanssen, Dita Von Teese... healthy weight, small waist, wider hips. It has less to do with extra pounds and more to do with bone structure and muscle placement. Curvy girls are curvy no matter how much they weight. If you are only "curvy" while overweight then you're being deceptive.0

I can't see your picture but curvy to me is someone with a defined waist. Rolls do not equal curves.
Here is skinny but curvy
a little bigger yet still cruvy
plus size and curvy0 -
To me (and I think in general for men) it's all about where the fat is, so as said above: a defined waist. It's all about your gene pool.
Some people cannot really be curvy.
Green = curvy.
Red = not curvy.
Not curvy.
Your image: curvy.
A woman with an *kitten* and boobs: curvy.
A thin woman with an *kitten* and boobs: curvy.
Curvy =/= fat, but yes, you need some fat (i.e. the person cannot be just skin on a skeleton, for sure). You can have 16% BF who are curvy.0 -
I am kind of specific when it comes to my definition. For me, curvy means a true hourglass or possibly pear shape, and I would say probably not over a tall and well carried/ proportioned size 14 (US) or "healthy weight".
I have been called curvy. I'm not. Yes, my waist is small..but I have a lot more weight to lose before I'd call myself that.0 -
The definition of "curvy" changed when Internet dating caught on and people were given a drop-down box to select their appearance. I have a ton of respect for everyone on MFP who is working to improve their health and make good decisions, but overweight is overweight.
I don't like the societal trend of demanding acceptance of (and even flaunting and promoting) obesity. It is unhealthy. Other countries laugh at us. Seriously.
Edit: I think I failed at trying to not sound like a **** here, but I did try!0 -
I think I'm curvy. I have boobs and a butt :-) but, perhaps I am not.....0

So, what did you think the definition was before the internet?
And what IS 'overweight' in your eyes?
As Florian suggested, can a woman be seen as 'curvy' with less than 16% body fat? Or even less than 25%??
And dont feel bad for speaking your truth :flowerforyou:0 -

You see that 10-foot pole lying in the corner over there? It's going to stay there, because I wouldn't even use that to type in a reply here.0 -

curvy
Although I never classified myself as that on any dating sites after i found out some people define it as fat.0 -

An hourglass shape. I honestly always hated it when people called me curvy, because I just wanted to say, "No, I'm just fat." Now that I'm getting closer to my goal, I'm seeing a much more defined shape, and it is definitely curvy. I'm excited :bigsmile:0

I see nothing at all wrong with the lady pictured in the OP...she is beautiful and sexy.0

i personally wouldnt consider her curvy. curvy girls don't have to stand weird in order to make themselves look more curvy and their waist look smaller :laugh:Mon 11/26/12 01:23 PM

i agree with this. curvy means having a small waist wider hips and/ sometimes wider rib cages upper body. old school curvy was women like sophia loren and raquel welch. having large boobs and a large butt IMO isnt enough to make someone curvy. it's pretty much all about the waist.
as a ruler, no matter how small i get and even though i will always have larger boobs, i'd never consider myself curvy because of my waist0 -

I call bull**** on that try
But I somewhat agree. I do not think curvy is synonymous with overweight, which is how it is commonly used. However, I think someone can be both curvy and overweight. As long as they have a waist that is much smaller than the boobs or butt.
ETA: To the person above that was throwing around body fat % numbers, I think I would say that someone over 30% cannot be curvy, and it would be on a case-by-case basis below that, but probably below 25% is more what I think of as curvy.0 -
I dont think that the pic Anna posted is a curvy woman, I think that is a fat woman. However I dont think the model that Laces out posted is what I consider curvy either. She is in fact curvy, but curvy too me means a little more weight then that.
I think the second pic that Minnesota posted is a good example of curvy.
I also agree when i see a woman list herself as curvy on a dating site, I assume fat, especially if she doesnt have a full on body shot (not one of those weird downward angle photos ... been tricked plenty of times with those)0 -
some how the third picture in my post went away.0

a little bigger yet still cruvy
plus size and curvy
I agree that the bigger model is curvy. The slimmer one is just slim! I think I definitely associate curvy with a higher fat percentage which would not include a concave stomach!! :laugh:0 -
this is what i think of when i think curvy.
I wouldn't consider this curvy because she is slim hipped but that is my opinion.0 -
I don`t care what anyone else thinks (and really in our lives that is what matters, what we individually like) but I want a lady with hips and a butt. :smokin:0
-
this is what i think of when i think curvy.
I would eat her alive. She's amazing.
Anyways... The first picture posted I would not consider "curvy". I do think that a lot of the time, people throw the word "curvy" around in order to avoid calling someone chunky. For instance, when I was overweight, people would tell me I was just "curvy". But I had HUGE boobs, no waist and a big *kitten*. Depending on their proportions, of course. Like some people have said, you CAN be overweight and curvy... As long as you're still an hourglass or pear shape. I'd consider myself "curvy" now because I have a 26 inch waist and 36 inch hips. Whereas before, I don't think there was that much of a difference between my waist and hips.
So really all I had to add was that I think of an hour glass or pear shape when I hear the word...0 -

Agreed, nothing curvy about this lady0 -

I look at chest to waist to hip ratio. The slimmer model had hips and a chest even though a tiny waist so curvy to me.0 -

She's grinding those hips girl, what's the matter with you!!!??? :laugh:0 -

I don't think she's curvy. her waist isn't defined enough.
Mesha said it perfectly. If you are curvy, you don't have to stand weird to look curvy.
There's nothing wrong with NOT being curvy. But it's one of those things where so many women claim to be "curvy" or "hourglass" shaped but few of them actually are.0 -

Yeah, but as we can see from this post KIts, it's subjective!!
The way I see it on a dating site is: slim, athletic, average, curvy, obese - curvy is definitely more towards a higher body fat than slim. But obviously you need to have a defined figure to call yourself that.
Fun survey, at the moment the term 'curvy' is ranging from skinny to obese!! :laugh:0 -

i agree with kits (i'm turning into kits' parrot over hear) there's nothing wrong with not being curvy. not all women are shaped like hourglasses or pears.
i also agree that the photo that laces out posted isn't curvy. she's basically in the same pose as the photo anna posted, so she only looks curvy because of how she's standing. straighten her out and she's a ruler, same with the anna's photo. and you dont have to have a lot of body fat to be curvy. this girl has like 10% body fat and i'd consider her curvy
just so it doesnt seem like we're picking on women, i might just start a similar topic on what's considered athletic build for men, because that seems to be the male version of curvy sometimes. ladies are thinking "ooh the rock" while he's thinking "yeah i look like an nfl linesman" :laugh:0
