    Need some help on this:

I am a beginner swimmer (began to learn swimming about 10 days back) and I can do decent 10 laps (presuming that 1 lap is the length once and not twice), in the pool. The size of the pool is 12 metres and I take about 30 minutes to do the 10 laps. Is it enough for now? Or should I try harder?

Chet, I have been reading a lot of articles about breaking the plateau. Turns out it is part of the weight loss process. Keeping my motivation inspite of not seeing results is the biggest challenge.

Focusing on weights (with dumbbells at home. No gym), very slow but sure progress. And HIIT as well.

    Not easy :(

So it could be that you're maintaining/building lean mass hence why the scales are not moving. Yes its good to stay motivated and keep going despite what the scales say - that's good. Keep up the good work.

any exercise which gets your heart rate up is good. but monitoring your food intake is 90% of the success as in reality, the amount of calories one can burn in 30minutes of exericse (around 300 if at a decent intensity), can easily get eaten in less than a minute.

@Arvind - I too went through the same train of emotions when I hit my plateau. Never mind the number on the scale for the time being. I understand that you have read a lot about plateau and hence I will save some time in not repeating the gyaan. However, let me share how I came out of it as I've been there, experienced that.

Vary the pattern, timing, schedule, reps. Mix and match. Give it at least 2-3 weeks. It worked for me. (By the way, I realized that I was eating 3-4 times katchori/week, some snack after 10 PM/watching cricket etc. You can check for pattern there.)

Don't give up your workouts. Keep doing them. Good luck, mate.

@Comrade - Yeah, keep up your heart rate for a good 45 mins. Watch out what you eat. Don't kill urself in the process. :)

Thanks Chet & Advi for your support... I do keep a check on my intake. Have also intensified my workout with p90x and completed 4 sessions of first week. planning to continue with it. little disappointing factor is that the body fat% also hangs around the same range for the last 3-4weeks.

3/23: 83.4 kgs (Now left with last 5Kgs and that is gonna be tough)
    3/30: 82.6 kgs
    4/06: 82.2 kgs
4/13: 81.9 kgs (focusing more on weight training and protein rich food)
4/20: 81.3 kgs (but body fat % reduction is not :( encouraging)
4/27: 81.2 kgs (skipped exercise this week... Feels nice to be just lazy at times)
4/30: 80.8 kgs (behind my target of 80kg... happy with the progress though :)
    5/04: 80.8 kgs
    5/11: 80.6 kgs
5/18: 80.6 kgs (double checked if my scale is okay and it is :()
5/25: 80.8 kgs (plateau.. plateau... plateau... oops uphill !!!)

Yes indeed, I hit the magic number of 80kg today (1-jun-13)... Haven't been on this weight probably in the last 10 years. Let us see how it goes this month.

    Nice.

SW - 95 KG - Heaviest in my life.
    CW - 01/06/13 - 79.3 KG - Lowest in my adult life. :P
GW - 70 KG (or something like that!)

My next goal is either a 2 kg loss or a pant size reduction. I am not sure which will come first.

Good job guys! I do find I have periods of weight loss followed by periods of stability and I'm not doing anything drastically different for either. Just goes to show we just got to keep going and let our body take it's natural course.

Chet, I totally agree with your point. It's interesting how our body takes its course to adapt change...

Hey Avi... We are pretty much on same weight now. My peak weight was 93.5.

What is your height by the way? I am 5'9" and 75kg target will put me on middle of bmi range.

My bf% is 23 at the moment and I wish to achieve about 15%...
