I have nothing to add as the prior posters seem to have answered already (and thank you everyone for the serious answers) but you may be able to use this to your advantage to a degree. I posted this topic a little while ago:

    http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/956414-forget-meal-timing-its-*kitten*-timing-that-is-important

so the optimal timing for post-workout sexual activity (solo or otherwise) is 1 hour after the workout

and the optimal timing for a post-workout meal is 30-45 mins after the workout

from an evolutionary biology point of view, that is extremely illuminating...

(actually it just confirms what's fairly obvious, but it's interesting how much human physiology has adapted to that kind of thing)

You really only need to eat shortly after a workout (context of meals before is relevant however) if you are going to do another glycogen depleting activity after. As semen is mainly glucose, I suppose that this could be considered one in an indirect way, especially if a lot of energy was expended in such an event on top of that...but it would have to be a hell of a session!

So, to be safe, eat 30 minutes after your workout if you are going for an interactive session 30 minutes after that to get in the 'jiggy window', but don't worry about it if going solo.

    Did I just write that?

    In...

    ...for spontaneous erections.

    Wait, what?!?

ETA: OP, totally normal. Surprised you didn't have this "problem" before. Were you always overweight since being a teenager? Perhaps that eliminated what would have been many years of spontaneous and frequent erections?

I suppose so, I have been overweight all of my life and, since this is the first time I have experienced something like this, I assumed it was abnormal.

I wonder is anyone has written a book or a blog about the changes that one's body goes through when losing weight? This would be the kind of thing that guys need to know going in to this journey.

Any other surprises I should be aware of?

Not being male, I'd always assumed all men had this problem. Huh. Interesting.

Yeah not having this issue before (though probably a bit more convenient) was actually probably the problem rather than what's going on now.

Generally speaking wearing clothing that hides such things best during times when it would be most problematic, coupled with regular....err...maintenance is probably your best bet, so don't wear skinny jeans or rock sweat pants commando. I'm not going to tell you what clothes work best as I can barely clothe myself, just figure it out.

The other things you have to look forward to are sex being better in general. Your performance and longevity are both likely to improve and a lot of positions just plain work better. Recovery time is also more likely to be improved.

It's just better, embrace it (get it?)

    lol

I think you're making it more complex than what I meant...

they would have caught an animal which involves exercise, then taken it back to the place where they slept (maybe a cave, maybe some other kind of shelter) which also involves exercise, sat down and cooked it on a fire, which probably took 30-45 mins, ate it sitting around the campfire and socialising, which probably took 15-30 mins, then got intimate with each other because they were fed, relaxed and happy.

the feeding window (30-45 mins) and sexual activity window (1 hr) seem to reflect the above scenario, i.e. our bodies have evolved to expect food after exercise, then sex after food after exercise.

Post-workout nutrition also helps with appetite control (as in food appetite I mean lol) later in the day, poor post-workout nutrition can lead to excessive hunger... from an evolutionary point of view this makes a lot of sense, because exercising then not eating = failed at hunting = got to obtain more food. An increase in appetite is something that results in increased food seeking behaviour. If someone's trying to eat less than they burn, it's something that would be useful to avoid.

Sex after food after exercise probably evolved to because it led to more food sharing among early humans, and food sharing was a critical factor in our evolution (but too big a topic to get into here).

Sex after food is probably a meta protozoan artifact. You eat, you reproduce. ;)

    Boom.

correct......... but in relation to food sharing, it's gets into the whole issue of sex for bonding, food sharing for bonding, and the evolution of higher levels of co-operation. Bonobo chimps also share food and have sex for bonding, however they have sex first then share the food. Humans share food first then have sex. Common chimps don't share food (they do rarely, but not habitually like bonobos or humans) or have sex for bonding, and they are also not as clever as bonobo chimps. And humans are much cleverer than either species of chimp (though that's probably due to factors other than whether you have sex before or after sharing food, but high levels of co-operation among humans have been an essential factor in our evolution).
