Have you found/signed up for one?

I just found one in October. I haven't even done a 5k race yet (july & august), but I have run 9km before and I have some time!

I have one coming up on June 1 and I was so excited and thought I might even be able to average an 11 minute pace, but I've been so SLOW these last couple of weeks and now I'm worried about it. A 5k is no big deal to walk or whatever. A 10k is more runner-centric....

I have one in September. I too have ran 9k, at the moment my 10k time would be around 75/80 minutes, if I can do it in under 75 I will be happy. One of my friends is running the same race and a few of my workmates are going to sign up too so it should be a fun day. Oh, and did I mention that the course is mostly totally flat and all the hills are downhill! Sounds like the perfect course for my first race.

    Lol about flat and downhill!

Slow jog is still jogging. It is exciting when we get speed progress though. It is one reason Im into this running thing now. Ive never run fast before, so to get so much faster as an adult is exciting!

Happy + injury-free training, runners! I have yet to time a 10km, but Im excited for the day.

I'm with you, Romy - 77.5 is my current training pace - so I'm now happy with anything under 75.

I'm getting ready for a 6-mile trail race in 3 weeks followed by the Peachtree 10K road race on July 4th. Yesterday I hit 53 minutes for 10K and hope to get that under 50 by next month.

I've just signed up for my 1st 10K next Thurs, 25th in Munich. It's an evening run, to start at 19:30. The running conditions have been superb with me for the past week and half but looking ahead to next week, there are thunderstorms predicted. Oh well, at least it's not cold

Congratulations! That's a great time for your first race. Was it the first of many?

I think I will do a 5K next time. 10K was a real struggle for me but the hot weather and the fact that I had to run up a very steep hill, twice, probably didn't help. The hill was appropriately referred to as "Heartbreak Hill". I don't know about heart break but my legs and lungs were complaining by the time I got to the top. I had thought perhaps a half marathon might be in the mix but I know my limits and 10K's it.

As mentioned in the above response, it was tough but I'm pleased I managed to get through it.

The good thing is I didn't come in last (woohoo!). Out of 243 women runners I came in 234th. Overall, out of 823 runners I came in 810th. I completed the run in 1:11:44. There is another figure labeled "individual time" not sure what this means but it read 1:10:48. I passed the half way at 00:35:59. I'm very happy with my timing etc as the weather conditions were difficult (hot/humid).

That was a very competitive race! You did really well. The more you run the easier it will become, you might have a 1/2 marathon in you yet!

My 10k time was 1:08 and I was in the last third.

Congrats to you that's awesome! I volunteered to run a 10k with my Aunt in two weeks. Not sure what I was thinking! If I can even get close to that time, I'll be dancing in the streets!

God help me - I just signed up for my first 10k in October. Looking at the course map, 10k sure seems like a l-o-n-g way to run! I finished a C25k program earlier this month, have run two 5k events, and am looking to both increase my distance and improve my 5k times. I know that if I can get from zero to 5k in 9 weeks, I can get from 5 k to 10k in 12 weeks, but still, it looks hard. But maybe not impossible.

No getting away from it, It is a long way. If you have the opportunity, I'd suggest you go to the venue before hand and walk/run the course to check out what type of terrain you'll be running. If there are any inclines, I'd recommend you add them into your training running route.

Good luck with it. It's a great sense of achievement once you've done it.

Getting from 5k to 10k was easier than getting from off the Couch to the first day of 5K for me. It is a more difficult distance and the races have a different flavor. Just about anybody can run/walk a 5k. Only people who are "distance runners" can run a 10k, so the events are both more casual and more focused.

I'm signing up for a 5k that is *not* a fun run (the 5k fun run happens earlier) so I'm pretty excited about it. and a little concerned about being DFL, but I know I'll be in good company if that happens (looking at you, Beth).

OK, I just ran 9 of the 10k of my walk/run route for today (it was raining, so I was motivated), so I'm signing up for a 10k at the end of August. It will be a small run (maximum 100 participants), and much less intimidating than the big citywide 10k I'm doing in October. I feel FANTASTIC - getting from 5k to 10k is going much, much more smoothly than I expected.

A week from today I'll be starting off on my first 10k with my Aunti Nanci! I'm excited and nervous. To see if I was ready, I ran 6.16 miles yesterday. Continuous in 79 minutes. I'm delighted! According to last year's race results, that might be a DFL time :) Bring it! A 10k in a week and 8 months ago I was doing W1D1 C25K, and about 35 pounds heavier.

Love it!!! If you we're anything like me, you would have been doing W1D1 and not completely sure that you'd make it through all the runs

I found a 10k a little ways away from me on Nov 10th (Gobbler Hobbler in Oswego, IL). I'm doing my first 5k on Sept 29, and I'm already doing 10k training so it shouldn't be bad. I've also decided to run a half marathon in Feb 2015 so that training starts as soon as my 10k training is done.

Congratulations on such a fabulous achievement. I ran my 1st 10K last week and did it in 72 mins. Like you I started with the C25K back in Jan. I recall that very first 60 second run and the pain I felt at the time and thinking "I must be mad, I'm never going to run more than this".

I'm sure you'll do great and don't forget to enjoy yourself.

It seems January was a popular time to start c25k! And look how far we have all come.

Completed my first 10k today! My accomplishments? I RAN.EVERY.STEP. Even when the course had a "hill", I ran. Each step was about 2 inches at the steepest portions, but I ran every one. Screamed at the top, and then had about 4 miles left to go:) I finished in 86 minutes, and came in 580 out of 588. I'm pretty sure I was heaviest/chubbiest on the course. I was blown away by how competitive it was. My Aunt, who is one of my heroes, stayed with a friend of hers the whole time (who panicked on the hill... 440FT elevation in .53 miles, to end a 2 mile steady climb of another 330FT); and they came in DFL. When it was time to cross the finish line, they grabbed hands, and my Aunt made sure to come in a couple inches behind her. I got to take their picture as they crossed.

I also admit, I cried near the end of the race. Hadn't finished yet, but at the moment I knew I would, I passed a neighbor who was blaring Chariots of Fire out her window for all the runners, and I cried, cried, cried.

    November... one minute intervals.
6 years ago, need a break if I'd walk so far as 1/2 mile as I was recovering from 7 surgeries in 5 years; and was 78 pounds heavier.

    Damn humbling.
