Seehee love the animation you have added to the group.
I did not have a chance to share with everyone I was on vacation last week & went to Newport, RI to view the mansions decorated for the Holidays. It was just beautiful.0 -

Me as well...I miss my Zeke..he was the love of my life for 9 years. A Great Dane that had the best personality. Now we have 2 mastiff mix puppies that have taken over the household. They are not exactly what I thought I wanted but I have become enamored with them just the same. This morning Buzz and Delilah gave me puppy kisses and butt wiggles before coming to work.0 -
As requested, Tonya's two little darlin's
(Tonya- I took a little of the green out-hope that's ok!)0 -
Thanks so much for posting these. I just can't seem to get the hang of it. I took them with my phone last night so they were a little off. That is Buzz and Delilah, you wouldn't know it but they are the same age. He is so massive next to her.0

awwe......0

They are ever so cute Tonya. Males are frequently larger than the females, but I do agree that there is definitely a difference in size!0
-
Tonya, wow buzz and Beulah are so much bigger than the first pictures!
Nice to know that no one is saying that about any of us Hatters!0 -
ROFL @ janets reply.... yeah, glad its the PUPPIES getting bigger too LOL
Long day yesterday, finsihed with a mall hop for some Christmas shopping and by the time I got home, my batteries were fried and I hit the sack; just caught up on some comments now about to catch up on Hatter world ..but need another coffee to go along with.. :flowerforyou:0 -
Here you go Snoozie, have as many cups as you please :-)

Good morning Hatters!
pouring a lovely cup of coffee from my pot above.. thank you Seehee!!!
I meant to post yesterday, but ended up getting together with an old friend and we yapped for hours; right through to grabbing dinner as well and then on til 11pm lol. They started putting the chairs on the table and vaccumming the rug so we figured at that point, it was time to go LOL. Had a "calorie worthy" splurge at dinner and enjoyed every bite; it was quite nice to not feel any guilt and just enjoy myself as I'm back to "normal" eating today of course.
One of the benefits of the logging over the past few months I have discovered (for me anyway) isthat when I do have a splurge meal, I can "see" the calorie intake every day; so after a splurge day its kinda nice to be able to see the "normal" numbers appearing - i think in my head it kinda reassures me that watching what and how much I eat IS really the new norm, and I don't have to panic when I have a day off or an indulgent meal; I don't seem to have that "I blew it" mentality anymore.. it's more... almost dare I say it.. becoming a HABIT to eat healthy and watch the amounts.. ?? I dunno.. I don't want to get too cocky or comfortable saying that.. because it is indeed a slippery slope between one meal or one day of splurge.. and EVERY day of splurge lol.. but its just kinda nice not to have that old self recrimination rearing its ugly head these days.. prolly not splainin how I feel the right way lol.. but.. anyhoooooo.. gotta catch up on the posts and make my comments.. I'm staying in my jammies til I get them done this morning!!
Hope everyone is having a good weekend; and if any of the Hatters are struggling or celebrating, hope to hear about both.. maybe one of us can help with a little motivation or a round of applause or just company to commiserate if needed! :flowerforyou:0 -
I am posting this here for those of you that asked about my day and wanted details. Feel free to ask any questions and hopefully I can answer them.
Ok, so yesterday was all about me...I love food and everything about it. I am an avid watcher of Top Chef and have seen almost every episode of every season. I am lucky to live in a food city. Richard Blaise has 3 restaurants in town and as of yesterday I am fortunate enough to have visited all 3. The first he opened was FlipBurger where he does amazing this with gourmet burgers. Just imagine the flavors of Mushoo Pork in a burger with Asian sweetbreads instead of fries. Sweetbreads are paired thymus glands and pancreas of milk-fed veal or calves. I know it sounds horrendous but they are really yummy.
We started the day by eating breakfast at Home Grown Café with a roasted tomato, spinach, mushroom and goat cheese omelet with latkes. It was awesome.
Next on the agenda was a trip to the DeKalb Farmers market. OMG, I have never seen such beautiful produce. Everything can be found there from spices, homemade breads, jams, jellies and such from around the world. I did go a little crazy when I found mushrooms and brussel sprouts for 1/3 of the price I had been paying. They even have live fish they will kill and clean for you. A wonderful experience and even though it is a bit of a drive I will be going back.
We hit up some boutiques and such in the Highlands and had a nice Aztec sipping chocolate at Cacao.
The second Blaise restaurant is HD1 and it is a hot dog joint. Not just any hot dog but a Haute Dog! All beef hot dog with many varieties of toppings. There is even a carrot dog! My foodie friend and co-worker is a vegetarian so she had the carrot dog… A little weird as it was a whole steamed carrot on a bun with pickled veggies but she said it was scrumptious. I had an East Bound and Down dog, Pulled pork and slaw on an all beef dog. It was so goooood. Next time I want to try one the bratwurst Ruben style.
After a visit to the Sundial lounge 83 stories up in the Westin we went to dinner at the 3rd Blaise establishment…The Spence. If you remember seeing Richard on Top Chef then you know he made an appetizer of raw oysters with horseradish pearls that he froze with liquid nitrogen. All I can say is I could eat my weight in those. My second dish was bone marrow, hamachi tartare, and fried quail eggs. Those eggs are tiny… It was so very rich but oh so good. Christin had Thai roasted brussel sprouts, buttercup squash crème Brule and creamy parmesan grits. All of these were excellent. If you look at the online menu it has some of these items but it changes with the mood.
I am looking forward to another adventure in this city that I call home. I live about 35 miles north of Atlanta proper and with the traffic here I don’t go in town much. Christin has chosen to live in town and can walk so very many places while I live in suburbia. I have serious envy.

TA: hows the carb challenge going.. know you were having a hard time... i admit i got a few after reading your post ... mashed potatos called to me!! LOL Just my own opinion but I think maybe you should enjoy a meal with taties or rice or whatever you are craving and kinda keep you from feeling deprived or "wanting"... and tide you over til the holidays? One meal wont impact your journey, and might get you over the hump and let you stay on track til xmas? Just sharing a thought... but hope you're doing ok either way!! K

Well, i have an entire day of cleaning around here to get to; fun?? wow... NOT! but I can't put it off any longer lol... and at least i'll be burning off a few calories!
Have a great day HatterS!0 -
Tonya, what a yummy day, the farmers market sounded awesome.
Snoozie, sounded like a perfect bonding day with your friend.
my dad's wife is obsessed with talking about weight and she has told me numerous times, I don't understand why you let yourself gain weight. She is not thin, but every day she tells me how much she weighed that morning and how much my dad weighed. In the car from the airport she asked me how much I lost, easy question. Then she asked how much I weighed. She has been asking me that for the entire 7 years she has been married to my dad. I started to tell her what I always do- I don't tell anyone my weight. Then I decided who cares, I have taken away the power of that one number to define me, so if she wants to know who cares. So I started by asking her how much she thought I weighed. She guessed about 165. She was genuinely surprised when I told her 206. And since I told her that is 101 pounds less than my heaviest, i told her yes your math is correct, I weighed over 300. She was speechless. So for my entire visit she rated what any of us were eating as good or bad. I did a good job of ignoring the food discussion and made reasonable choices. And I enjoyed the best strawberries in the world- plant city Florida strawberries!
So I got home late last night and while bob is moving furniture to the assisted living I am spending the day at physician prompt care with MIL, she was angry at her sons for taking some of "her" good furniture to the assisted living, telling them they should have just bought a few cheap pieces for her husband! I am so thankful for her parents, bob and his brother spent so much time with them, that the grandparents taught them to appreciate and celebrate life, I never once heard them complain, even though they buried 3 of 5 children. I hope bob and I can both follow their example as we age.0 -
I am feeling better, but am on a medication that has a side affect ov major GI issues of which have had me down for a couple of days, I am trying to deal with it as best I can as I really need to be on this & only need to take for 2 more days. I still need to get back to exercise & hope I will feel well enough soon.
Snooozie I also do drives to see the lights, but my trip was tour the mansions of Newport, RI. The grandest was the 70 room Vanderbelt Mansion, yes that's right 70 rooms. There is a preservation society that now owns 11 of the historic mansions & has them open for tours. The mansions were mostly built prior to 1914 with 3 of them open from November 1 to January 1 and all decorated for the holidays. You would not believe the elegance. Marble house has a room where the walls are gold leaf, and the Breakers (the 70 room Vanderbelt "cottage") has a room that is platinum. All three in full elegance for the holidays. Fresh flowers, 12 foot holiday trees made of poinsettias, all just breathtaking. We spent hours wondering around them.
I thought of Hairspray today as I was dressing for my church Christmas concert. I remember some posts we had a while back about clothing we have in the back of our closet & also about great finds at thrift shops. Back over the summer I picked up a green velvet dress for $2 at the church thrift shop. I thought gee, that would be great at a holiday party. I decided to wear it today & paired it with a pair of boots I had stashed in a box under my bed. I think I have had these boots for at least 15 years and have not worn them in probably 5 years, but they were expensive & always tight around my calves, but just one of those items you do not want to part with. Well, both the dress & boots fit perfect & I looked great. My BF could not stop complementing me! This made my day.
Hope everyone had a great day & will ck in again tomorrow.0 -
Bis... didnt realize the mansions were tourable inside and out (is tour able a word?) but sounds amazing!!!! So glad you enjoyed; as for the meds please dont over textend yourself til they've run their course... you're already back on track with the logging (awesome btw) and once they're done and you feel 100% again you can work on whatever you want goal wise with the exercise.. but dont push it til the meds are done and your body has fully recovered from the procedure, k? specially this time of year; our immunie systems are already fighting all the icks going around so take care of yourself, k?
That outfit .. wowsa lady.. bet ya rocked the place!!! and felt like a million bucks! When I get to goal one of the first things i want is a pair of knee high boots too... right now my calves are more like full grown cows LOL.. but that will be one of my happy shopping trips when I get there!
I'm meeting two of my oldest friends for lunch today; it's a fair bit north as we've all moved over the years and only get to see each other now and then; so very much looking forward to our visit, but prolly won't be back til tonight.. hope everyone has a great day, and an awesome week! I think I need to go back and read the 20 tips from our last topic .... just as a little insurance LOL.0 -
Today's NSV: I'm on an online group from the town where I grew up. Someone posted who's name sounded familiar. It was my brother's High School crush and she lives about five miles from me! She messaged me and we went out for coffee this morning. She's a dance instructor. Her mother used to run a studio. She's in her late 50's and looks great, but she's also the nicest person you'd ever meet. If this had happened before losing weight - even though I'm not done - I wouldn't have gone. I missed out on a lot of nice times because I didn't have the confidence. 'Hope everyone's having a great week!0
-
Wow kobie.. how cool was that??? So glad you had such a nice time, and that you WENT!! i know I've done that a few times, not gone somewhere because of not feeling good about myself.. but the weight loss has indeed helped me feel more confident, as well as turning 50 LOL.. I seem to care a whole lot less what people think of me now (be that good or bad, I'm not sure!) but love that you took a risk and went for it!!0
-
Hmmm.. not much chatter in the Hatters these days.. hope everyone is doing ok and has a great day!0
-
Kobiesmom, .....Very big NSV!!! I have done that so many times and still do it to this day ,at times.... but we're getting better!!0
-
@ snoozie - love the new pic btw.... working on having a "no oreo day"...... will use the photo to remember that the oreos are not my friend.....
here's hoping....
but did notice that the 18 yr old - lovve / hate him... did find his way into the girl scout samoas..... ugh.....
luckily he is smart enough to stay out of the thin mints.....0 -
Kobie, that is an awesome NSV. So many times I have made excuses to stay home or go to an event and sit in one spot for the entire time trying my best to be "invisible". For me it is not my size. I have noticed that when I start to eat healthy and exercise I start to feel more comfortable with other people even before I have a noticeable weight loss. The other thing I noticed is that when I am eating healthy and exercising and I go to a social event I will eat what I want, including dessert if I am in the mood. When I have been ignoring my health and not moving and eating a lot of junk, when I go to a social event, I will scarcely eat a thing, because I am convinced people are looking disapprovingly at my plate. I have had more than one person tell me that they don't know how I gained so much weight because I don't eat much. It is not a mystery to me. When I am in an unhealthy state of mind, I become very isolated and I eat copious amounts of junk food in my car and in my house when I am alone or when the family is sleeping. Ironically I now have had more than one person ask me if I eat such a big lunch all the time, because it is a lot of food for someone losing weight. I tell them it is not the quantity of food it is the quality of the food.
Carol, good luck with your no oreos day! I can not have girl scout cookies in my house! I would enjoy having one of my favorite Samoas or even 2 thin mints. But I don't have the restraint to do it. Right now I have some dark chocolate peppermint godiva truffles in my freezer and I can handle having one 50 calorie truffle. But girl scout cookies I can not handle!
Snoozie, I had the same reaction when I saw your picture, I better eat healthy of Snoozie will come after me!
I was having computer issues this morning while I was working at home, so I took a break and put up some outside Christmas lights. We used to go all out, but Bob doesn't like putting them up now that the kids are grown, but I like having some when I get home in the dark. and for the first time ever, every other house on our court has some outside lights or decorations. And I really did not like coming home and seeing our house the only dark one. The last few years our son has helped me put up outside lights, but he won't be home from school in Michigan until the 23rd. So I didn't do the big trees, just bushes and the light pole. Enough to make me feel good when I turn the corner into our court.
DH and I are going on a date tonight to breathe a sigh of relief, now that his dad is in a dementia care assisted living and his mom moved back into her house!!! One of us goes over every day, but what a relief. For those of you who have been long term caregivers for the elderly, God Bless You, I had no idea of the challenge. Part of me feels like a failure for not being able to make it work out, but I think she is also happier in her own home.
Comfort and Joy to all the Hatters! Janet0 -

HOWLING WITH LAUGHTER!!!!!!!!! Just home from a long day out with my senior friend; will have a read and do a post shortly!0 -
@ hairspray - I know what you mean about not feeling good about yourself - with the taking care of elderly parents.....
My father passed in the mid-1980s from lupus - but luckily he passed while still living at home (on the way to the hospital we think - based on the reports - I was in my mid 20s at the time....
My mom passed in 2005 (she was in a nursing home at the time)... Bottom line up front: my son was young at the time and I was working full time - knew it would be better for her and me both - not having the worry of something happening to her at home while I was at work and not really trusting nursing staff (living in Camden County NJ - (we have Camden NJ which is like Detroit - # 1 or 2 for crime).....she was in a nursing home with dementia / alzheimers - she started out in assisted living 3 hrs from where I live and then she moved into a nursing home from there...(which was only 15 mins from my home...and they took medicaid... and let's just say you get what you pay for...
Again - like hairspray said - God Bless the Caregivers.....:flowerforyou:
Carol0 -
for snoozie: was listening to the radio on the way in... did you know that if you ever smoked marijuana you reduce / eliminate type 2 diabetes? and you could even have a beer - "whole grain theory"... just sayin....
and i even had a no oreo day yesterday......
 :smokin: :bigsmile:0 -
nothing like a pair of slim cut size 14 side zip dress pants to keep you away from the oreos...."smiles" - and must admit feeling __xy and i know it...
:smokin: :drinker: - having a funny cigarette with a beer....
luckily never had the diabetes issue.....just brain surgery 2 years ago... but fully recovered - just waiting to cross the gastro dr off the list.....:grumble: :grumble:
Carol0 -
@ seehee - make a pic when you have a moment - check out my posts.. and use your best judgement....0
