How much do you pay in Gym Membership?

Hiya

I am on a rolling monthly membership at Club Moativation in Holiday Inn, it is £37, which I feel is a bit much for the amount of machines and equipment they have there. Its handy though and friendly atmosphere. I could get it for less if I had a 12 month contract though, which I prefer not to do.

I was just wondering where other people go and how much they pay?

I go to puregym - no pool or sauna, but HUGE with great equipment and always clean, open 24hrs and free classes. I joined before my local one opened so I pay £10.99 a month for the first year, if you join once it has opened its around £18.99 a month.
  • I go to fitness first, I get 98% of the classes for free unless they get in a specialist trainer in then its about £3/4 for the hour session.
We have a pool, 2 levels with a freestyle area.
Sadly, its not 24hours but it was so much better in terms of equipment, staff attitudes, cleanliness etc compared to other gyms in my area. I have a anytime contract which is £39.99 a bit much but if Im there 3 or 4 times a week I think its worth it and when I joined I was given 4 personal training sessions and can ask for help if I need it without gettifng a PT session. I had a regular member of staff spwnd 40minutes with me showing me a new routine the other day because I said i was bored haha no other gym Ive been with have ever done thay
  • I am at a local gym called The Stables Gymnasium (also a MMA school) has everything gyms need plus posts a Olympic sized boxing ring and has professional trainers morning afternoon and evening available.

Also there are alot of fighters like myself who lend a hand to new people and even share techniques and help each other out.

The prices are £25 a month for either classes only or gym only (£20 for students & kids classes) and then £45 for the complete classes and gym.

Had to put prices up due to a 100% rent increase which is ridiculous!

Well there's a chain of gyms called Gym4All which is £15 per month, which I used to go (before I bought the treadmill) - they are great, no gimmicks just really good machines and equipment, well maintained, loved it. Might go back if I decide to do more serious strength work and sort out a job!

Also there's FitSpace, which is about £12 per month depending on where you are (being in London, I find the gym rates are always a bit higher even with chains, so it might be a bit better in the midlands!)

I use golds gym which is 35 pound a month, it has a lot of machines and a small pool. It's ok but they wanted to charge me and my wife more for a joint membership. Than both having single ones. I thought that sounds like crap business sense..lol
  • I go to my local sports centre which has a excellent modern gym paid for by lottery funding. They've got a proper pool too.

It's £430 a year (£35.50 a month) to use the gym, studio classes, pool and thermal spa. I find this works best for me as I do a bit of everything, paying yearly gets me two months membership for free.

Gym only on a monthly DD (no lock in contract!) is £31 a month.

The only downside is that it shuts at 10pm really.

Interesting topic and huge variance in prices!

I am looking to join our (only) local gym this week and for two of us we are looking at £63 a month, which I think is dreadful!

Unfortunately, rural Dorset does not have much of a selection, so unless we want to travel, we are stick with it.

Let's hope it is worth it :)

We have 2 gyms in our Parish ............... One is huge and has a pool, cardio gym, weights gym and loads of classes ........... it costs £35 per month for use of the gyms and pool but extra for classes. The other is a small gym with no pool, limited classes but great equipment for cardio and strength. That one costs £31.50 a month for use of the gym, personal workout programme (updated every 6 weeks) and free use of the fishing lake and 9-hole golf course. The classes are charged at a reduced rate for members.
I chose to join the smaller gym with less facilities but only because it seemed less daunting with less people using it. The service I got when I joined was A* and all the staff are really friendly and helpful. I go for an hour each morning Mon-Fri so consider that I'm getting my moneys worth. Who knows .............. I may even take up fishing and golf!! :-)

Wow, I think I must be paying over the odds. The gym I go to is £50 a month. Swim, sauna, steam room (not used the sauna or steam room until I have lost a lot of weight - using that as my bargaining chip to myself) Lots of machines, weights and plenty of classes to choose from.
I used to go to the local leisure centre, that was £30, but to go to classes was extra, and they didnt have a large amount of equipment.
  • Mines £36.50 a month and that includes everything, lessons the lot but im thinking of cancelling as im doing Insanity now and dont really need it but il probably wait till end of the month.

Sorry everyone but we have a fully kitted out gym (no pool) where I work (local Constabulary) and it's completely free. I do pay 19.00 a month for unlimited use of the local swimming pool though.

I go to our local council gym which is £15/month. It is unlimited use if the pool and gym (because it is a council gym there are lots of swimming lessons). Classes are about £4 I think but I have never done one. It is great. The staff are really friendly and it is completely unpretentious. X

A little over £30 a month each doesn't seem that much (depending on facilities). Even if you only go 3x a week that only equates to £2.50 a visit.

I go to Puregym in Leeds, £18.99 a month, no pool etc but its 24/7 which is ideal for me as i like to get my work outs done early morning, tend to get there at 6:30am!

£47 a month at fitness first. Unfortunately my commute is killer and my nearest fitnes first not that near so for the last 3 years it's pretty much equated to £300 per visit :P New years resolution - go to the gym more :P (Or at the very least give up my membership!)

Yeah, I guess so - but still seems like a lot of money per month to me - lets just hope it is worth it :)

I use the local Council run gym off peak (so between 9am-5pm) and its £23.99 a month rolling contract. I get the use of 4 different gyms, swimming pools, sauna etc. Its brilliant for me because I can take my little girl swimming for free.

We also have the use of the badminton/squash and tennis courts for free and have to pay £1 for most fitness classes.

I enquired at our local sports centre yesterday and was quoted £43 a month for gym/spa/pool or £27.50 for just the use of the pool - looking at the prices here I now think that that's dreadful! There seems to be massive variance. I have my own treadmill but I would like to swim more and use weights, but not at that price!

£19.99/month at my local gym, just 2 sites in the chain, one near where I work, and the other near where I live :)

No pool, limited classes, but plenty of cardio machines, a well equipped weights room, and a ladies-only room. They also include sessions with a trainer to help figure out your routine etc if needed.

Thegymgroup dot com: £10.99 a month. I use the one in Nottingham and it's great - open 24/7, all the equipment you could ever need, massive, good staff, clean and easy. No pool or frills, but value for money.

I'm at the local leisure centre- gym, pool, sauna and free classes included and there is a discount on squash courts, I think it's £37 per month usually...I get a 15% discount because I work for the NHS. For me it's brilliant because it's literally next door to the Primary Care Centre I work in

I pay £44 on an NHS membership to a private country club. Usually it's around £62. That includes use of:

    - sports hall (when not being used for kids sports)
    - 10% discount in restaurants (2), bar, function rooms and beauty barn
    - swimming pool
    - spa area (sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and what not)
    - gym with brand new equipment
    - all classes included x biking and les mills classes
    - range of kids clubs and sports (extra payable)

They have great trainers in the gym, great weights section and cardio section, we've just got all new equipment and redone the gym.

I think I pay £25 and that is with NHS discount. That includes unlimited use of a local smallish gym, most classes and unlimited use of the local pool.

It is about as much as I would be happy to pay at the moment and I enjoy the classes more than they gym. The gym is a bit small .
