You ladies are awesome. I haven't done anything yet and will probably just leave it alone unless they just keep after me. My attitude has changed dramatically and I can tell a difference. So, tomorrow it is back to being "ME" the one I love and I am going to leave this BS in the dust!

    Hey there Hatters:
Sorry I posted and then went MIA, I will try to check the board and respond daily. The difficult part is this board only shows up on my computer and not my tablet (unless I am doing something wrong??)
My husband was sick with whatever nasty bug it was that was going around, I kept it at bay for awhile and then I came down with it at the end of last week and just finally started feeling alright again yesterday.
I don't know how much I will be able to chat during the next month because I have a lot of work to get caught up on before we go on vacation the first week of April (Caribbean Cruise celebrating our 30th anniversary which actually happened in February) If I can get everything caught up it won't be so bad once we are back because its our slow season (we have our own A/C and Heating business and we are always slow March through June)
I started a new exercise routine today - I was using a program chip for my treadmill, I have two one for wellness and the other for body shaping (fitness). The fitness one is having problems and resets part way through the work out. So I am improvising and making up my own uphill program and then including some of the exercises I found on the "Biggest Loser Site" http://www.biggestloser.com/resources/exercises/daily-home-workout?cid=BL_PIN_3. I can't do them all the way they are intended, but I figure anything is a start  Eventually we are going to have to invest in a new treadmill cause its getting old, but for now it still works!
Tonya~ sorry to hear about your mom. I do facebook and really like it, but no one says you have to friend even family. I like the response that hairspray came up with. I lost my mom (58 yo) 10 years ago from a brain aneurysm and my sister (43 yo) last summer. The three of us were pretty close and its been really difficult for my Dad, myself and my niece and nephew (just turned 18 & 20). My kids (22 & 24) also took it very hard as she was their favorite Aunt of only three, small families on both sides =(
Hope everyone had a great day, I will try to check in again tomorrow.

Jonny, the new exercise routine sounds awesome and so does heading to the Caribbean, which islands?
Carol, I understand exactly what you are saying about the two different trips and it is awesome that you were doing every wild ride! We went to Universal when I was at my heaviest-307. On one of the rides, I took my seat and then they moved me to the back row because I was too big for the bar to come down. Now at 191, I never need to worry about that again!
Since we have been talking about losing our mothers, I will share an odd story (I know this will make me sound crazy, but if I can't share with my Mad Hatters, who can I?). I sometimes count days between different events, and I knew the exact day that I would be older than my mother when she died at 49 years, 10 months. So as I was listening to Bob share his grief, I thought I think I have lived longer after my mother died than when she was alive. I found that I had.
Disclaimer, I know the following is really silly and I don't really believe it, but while I was playing with the numbers, I got a little goofy. I was 29 years, one month and six days old when my mother died. I was surprised to add another 29 years, one month and six days to get to the exact day on which Bob's mother died. To continue the symmetry, I have decided that I will die 29 years, one month and six days from that date, or march 26, 2042. Considering the fact that for 20 years I was convinced I was going to die at 49, because I couldn't imagine being older than my mother, I am ok with this new "theory". It gives me a lot of motivation to stay healthy and take care of myself, because I plan on playing tennis (doubles) that day in a tournament for ladies 85 and over and then going home for a nap and dying in my sleep. This theory also allows me to deal with my grandbaby envy, because I have time to wait for them. On the other hand I will continue to be thankful for every day, because only God knows my time.

The good news is: I bought a bunch of 100 cal snacks

The bad news is: I bought a bunch of 100 cal snacks...

My plan is to keep most of them in the car (in the back of my suv - saturn vue)..handy / not so handy....
and only take in a few to keep in my emergency snack drawer at work... cheaper and healthier than our snack bar / vending machines...

That way the 18 year old won't eat them up, nor my co-workers...

brownies, oatmeal cookies, nuts, pretzels, fig newtons...

    Let's hope the plan works and that I don't eat 5 in 1 day.....

    Hello My wonderful Ladies,

Time to stop making excuses just can't seem to stay focused. I have felt ashame which has made me less involoved on chat board and in the group. Struggle, struggle, struggle., to the point I really haven't done anything more than log food.

So much going on right now and seems nothing I do moves those numbers. Yes, I know its not who I am but lets be honest that is what we use as a guide and right now my guide is making me crazy. I keep trying this and that but nothing seems to budge that number. That said I am celebrating my rehersale MAINTAINING I have decided. I have tried everything except changing my mind frame so today is that day I am doing that and recommeting to doing all the little steps that I know will make this journey a succes in the end. I am looking at my numbers more and double checking again. I have come way to far to let this slip through my fingers and the end of May really isn't that far away. I have a little over 2 months and 24 lbs to make my goal of - 100. I know this can be done and I am going to do it !!!!!

All this said let the gardening begin !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Breaking ground and planting this weekend !!!

Wishing each of your a fabulous weekend !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Everyone! I hope that your weather is as pleasant as ours today. I got out for a walk and even did some yardwork yesterday. I finally got around to reading everyone's updates. I was in Ft. Lauderdale this past week. I got the depositions over with and thought that my emotional turmoil was over with for a while. I stayed with my sister and her husband and made to out to dinner with my two sisters. Unfortunately, one of their husbands was diagnosed with liver cancer while I was there. There really, truly is ALWAYS something. TA's post was right on the mark - I have to change my mindset or I'll never get anywhere. I have to take some little steps out of this funk. I'm going back to basics. Stress has been taking me down, but I've been letting it.

    Have a great week, Everyone!

Hairsprayhon~We are going to Cozumel (where we will snorkal), Grand Cayman (where we will swim with the Stingrays), and Jamaica (where we will do a zipline tour and Dunns River Falls).
Carol~How did your snack plan work out?
TArnold~My husband has been out prepping for summer, but we are a ways off from it being warm enough to plant in our neck of the woods.
Kobiemom~Sounds like you have a lot going on......hang in there!

I don't know what my weigh in will bring tomorrow morning, but I fear it won't be good. I overate on Saturday so tried to keep my calories low today, but I don't know if I offset the damage or not :(
Getting ready to make some more changes with my exercise and maybe with my diet......just don't feel like I'm making very good progress.

    Morning Ladies,

Time change has done me in. I missed my morning workout.... I will get back with it tomorrow!
I hope everyone here had a great weekend. We watched the grandsons play baseball Saturday and Sunday was full of weekly shopping and yard work for a friend.

Do any of you have a food scale? If so, do you use it and what for?

I got one yesterday and portioned my meat. I haven't made a lot of progress lately and thought it might help to stop over/under estimating and to get right on track. Tonight's dinner will be measured on the scale so I can get an accurate reading. Lunch will be stuff I can control but for tomorrow I want to portion everything!

Carol~We leave on the 30th, the Cruise actually starts on Sunday the 31st and we will be back home the following Sunday.
Tonya~We use a food scale, mostly for our meat/chicken/fish and anytime we want to verify that our "eyeball" amounts haven't been to far off on other things.

Time changed bothered me more than I thought it would, but since I work from home I have a little more leeway in adjusting to it. Got up late, but still exercises before going to my office and getting things started for work =)

I am starting a C25K as of this morning. I'm not running/jogging as of yet.....thought I would go through it on my treadmill at a 4 for the run portion and 3 for the walk portion since when I've tried to walk at 4 for any length of time its just to much. Then I'll go through it a second time and up it to 5 and 4 =) Found a nice app for my android phone that tells me exactly when to change my speed.

TAmmy, I hope Monday has brought with it a positive change that will help you get out of your very temporary slump.
Kobiemom, when I read your note, I thought your sister must have been grateful to have you near to support her when she learned such terrible news! You are right it is always something!
Carol, so if I am going to replay my childhood and go to the bathroom when the flying monkeys come, how long do I need to stay in the bathroom?
Jonny, your Caribbean trip sounds so,awesome. I just read an article that said the benefits of vacation come as much from the planning as the actual trip and it seems like you have planned it well! Enjoy!
Bisland, your description of the islands reminded me of the description of the houses going into the ocean in South Carolina in pat Conroys prince of tides. It is hard to see the places we love change so drastically. It also reminded me reading of the changes in ocean city, md which resulted in the creation of assateague national park when a storm created a new inlet. That was mid twentieth century. Unfortunately, we love our barrier islands, but they are all unstable.
Tonya, when you said you "missed" your workout because of the time change, I thought that is a new description for you, already you miss it when you can't get there!
This is the last mention and the last thought I am giving to the one pound gain on my weekly weigh in. We had so much fun dressing up in gown and tux for a night on the town, that when I think about this past week, I will remember that fun evening and how I felt wearing a dress that had hung in my closet since I bought it six years ago . After I did my nails, curled my hair, put on makeup and put on the new dress and strappy heels (at 2 inches the absolute highest I can walk in) , bob told me I looked nice. I didn't say anything, but I thought nice, after all I have been through all you can say is nice!? Fortunately I didn't say anything, because when we sat down at the restaurant, bob said you look so amazing!"

Jonny, I did a cruise with those same ports a few years back. Grand Cayman was my favorite stop. It is a very clean beautiful island. Are you going on a NCL ship? They are my favorite. I did the C25K program a year ago & found it very easy to use. Repeat weeks when you need and before you know it you will be amazed at your progress. I did 2 5K races last summer and never in my life would I have imagined I could have done it. I call it more a slog that I do. I do not worry about my speed too much, but in those 5k's I finished in he middle of the packs so I feel I did well. Unfortunatly I got out of the habit of running on a regular basis this winter. I have been using the treadmill, but not as consistant as I had been, but I can run further than I could before the program and with in a few weeks will be back up to my pace of last summer. When you have chance take your runs outside. You willl find it harder, but much more enjoyable. I was embarased to do this at first, but could not believe the encouragement I recieved from my neighbors.

Carol, despite your words I think I will pass on "Oz" I'm with Snooozie and Janet on the monkeys & baboons.

Janet, do not worry about the 1lb, you are doing so well. Doesn't it just make you feel like a new woman to dress up like that? I am sure you looked fabulous!

Tonya, I have a food scale, but do not use it consistanly. Hence the lack of movement on the scale. I keep telling myself I am making healthy choices, but Iknow I have to practice more portion control.

Tonya : I have a food scale and I use if for everything which may explain why the body scale moved so slowly from Christmas until now since I kind of abandoned it until recommitting last Thursday. I know better !!!!! But its all going to change now I can just feel it .

Feeling much better about thing but tired and heading to bed. Wishing everyone a Terrific Tuesday !!!

bisland~We can't wait to see the sites. We are going on Royal Caribbean this time. In December, 2011 we did a Princess Cruise that went to Aruba and Curaceo. It was my husbands first Cruise and I think he is hooked. I've finally talked him into taking some sort of vacation every spring, but we will only be able to cruise every three years or so. Next year we are going to Tennessee sometime around Memorial Day weekend, my sister-in-law has a cabin and while my daughter and I went several years ago my husband has not been and I think he will really enjoy it =)
hairsprayhon~We've had tons of fun planning this vacation. Its our first with just the two of us, no kids and no other family so we are having fun planning for just the two of us =)

Woke up way to early this morning and couldn't get back to sleep, finally gave in and got up at 3:30......I think its going to be a long day =( Almost time to think about exercising. I guess this is me making up for sleeping in yesterday? LOL!!
Hope everyone has a great day!!

    Good Morning ladies,

Thanks for the advice on the food scale. I used it last night to measure everything. Next time I now know not to eat a whole cup of polenta.. over 500 calories for a cup  I do love it so especially with mushrooms.

I measured out my chicken and potatoes for lunch and will have items for snacks and such that I don't have to measure today for breakfast and snacks.

I am envious of the vacation planning.... Normally I would be planning mine now but with stepson and his second hip replacement looming we aren't sure of the timing. On a happier note, the first replacement is going well.

I would like to see Oz but I can't even remember the last time I actually went to a theater so see a movie...I tend to fall asleep in cool dark places

Have a great day my friends!

    Carol,

Think back to when Jurrasic park came out. I worked 3rd shift, went to UGA to see Cassie swim in the State tournament and if she placed we said we would take her to see it. She placed 2nd in the state so off we went. Once inside I think I saw the opening scene and I was out....Fast forward to Pirates of the Carribean II I went with a co worker after work, I think it was the 7pm show...same thing happened! Now I rent so or watch On Demand so if I do fall asleep I can watch it again....not sure what it is but I think it is just being still for a period of time. I even fall asleep watching Jeopardy!

    Morning Hatters!!

Will be catching up on some of my replies during breakfast - but here's a little "food for thought" to chew on for today!

You become what you think. If you're not getting the weight loss results you want, practice more positive self-talk and think yourself thin!

Whether you're aware of it or not, you have a mental tape running constantly that affects your moods and ultimately, your behavior. When these thoughts are negative, outdated or confining, they undermine the process of change-whether you're conscious of them or not. It stands to reason that without an awareness of this mental chatter, you cannot really know why you do what you do so it is harder to change it.

Your thoughts are the primary creator of your emotions, which inspire your actions and therefore lead to your results. This thought > feeling > action > result cycle is a "causal loop." In other words, when you think a certain thought, it causes you to feel a certain way, which causes you to act in a certain way, which causes certain results, which then "proves" that your original thoughts were correct.

These patterns are often repetitive and self-reinforcing. Thousands of repetitions of a particular experience create auto-pilot thoughts, feelings and actions, and therefore, predictable results.

This thought > feeling > action > result cycle applies to all of your thoughts, not just those surrounding food, eating and weight. It applies to your thoughts about your relationships, your career, your finances, your habits and your abilities-any area of your life that is within your sphere of influence. Even when a thought pattern leads to poor results, you can stay locked in the trap because it's comfortable and familiar.

    Think Yourself Thin

The first step to disrupting an undesirable cycle is to start monitoring your internal conversations and become more aware of the results they are creating.

The next time you find yourself eating in a way that feels out of control, uncomfortable or unsatisfying, ask yourself what you were thinking before you took the first bite. If you recognize that your self-talk is inaccurate, ineffective or limiting, you can choose to change it to more positive self-talk in order to change your outcome. Repeating new positive thinking and empowering mantras will result in the rewiring of your brain.

Interestingly, you don't even have to believe what you're saying to yourself at first. There's power in simply saying it. Your mind doesn't tolerate incongruence so if your thoughts are telling you something, your brain will find a way to make it true. In other words, "fake it until you make it." When you act "as if" it were true, it soon becomes reality.

Let's take a look at an example of negative and positive self-talk that is common in people who struggle with their weight:

Change Your Mind: The Inner Critic
The Inner Critic is harsh and hypercritical and says things like:

    "I am weak-willed and I have no self-control."
"I am too heavy to be attractive."
"I am lazy and too undisciplined to exercise the way I should."

You might talk to yourself this way because you believe that you're keeping yourself "in line." :frown:

But most people aren't motivated by criticism-even when you're the one criticizing yourself. Instead, this hypercritical self-talk causes feelings of inadequacy and hopelessness. As a result, you probably won't do your best or you'll give up easily. The results only prove that the Inner Critic was right and lead to more harsh self criticism.

To change this pattern, begin to use an encouraging, gentle inner voice and positive self-talk to motivate yourself toward the changes you want and literally think yourself thin. For example:

"It's challenge to turn down tempting food but I know it will taste even better if I wait until I'm hungry."
"I look really nice in this dress-especially when I smile!"
"I'll feel so much better if I take even just a short, comfortable walk. Everyone has to start somewhere." :drinker:

Banish your negative thoughts before they lead to negative feelings and behaviors. Switch to kinder, gentler, positive self-talk that will coach you toward the results you really want.

Snoozie, Oh my....how I can relate. When I was seeing my therapist I used to get the worst headaches. When I would be in a session and say " I have the worst headache" he would say "what are you mad about"? I never thought I was mad about anything until I stopped and thought. I still get the occasional headache but nothing like I did.......once I started thinking about what I was mad about and resolving the issue.

Now that I have admitted to seeing a therapist,(it was way back in the day)...can you imagine what I would be like if I didn't have some tools to cope? :blushing:

You all have become my therapist and for that I am very thankful!

    Ladies,

Look up Joel Osteen - he has a book called "I am".....

If we say I am fat, lazy, etc.. that is what we become....

I just need to start saying I am on time... and follow through... time management has never been my strength...

Snoozie as always your positive words of encouragement are helpful.
Along those same lines, here are some of the things I have changed to get out of the vicious yo yo cycle.
I stopped thinking I must eat less food and deprive myself of food I really like to be able to lose weight.
I started thinking I am eating more nutritious food that tastes great and as I get healthier my body will return to the size it was
    designed to be.
I stopped thinking I must be on a diet until I get to my goal
I started thinking, I am making healthy improvements to my eating and movement that will make everything about my future so much healthier that I will never want to revert to unhealthy habits
I stopped thinking when I get to x pounds I will finally be able to wear nice clothes and look good.
I started thinking looking good is more about attitude and wearing clothes that fit my body no matter what size I am is going to look good!
I stopped thinking if I get to goal maintenance is going to be difficult and scary
I started thinking WHEN I get to goal, my healthy choices will be so ingrained that with the support of my Mfp friends maintenance will be a breeze.

Evening Hatters.. sorry I've been lax in my replies lately; but i've been doing some PM's so haven't been completely off the radar.. I've been working these days off on de cluttering and spring cleaning ; cleaning out closets and clothes and "stuff" that has accumulated.. got a wagjag coupon for the junk people to come and get the old furniture (its hard to lug stuff out when you're in a condo.. took the little pieces but an old loveseat with a built in fold out bed is just too freaken heavy) and took a few loads already to the goodwill places.. not quite finished but have 2 days left before heading back to work so keep yer fingers crossed!

so without further ado.. on to the replies.. im working backwards and using a word doc on the side to type so it may be a little out of order lol

Janet - LOVE the positive affirmations my friend.. am totally on board with changing the mindset! I love the new pic btw... and sympathized when I read about hubby's lack of comment .. boyz are just.. stoopid sometimes.. sigh.. we love em, but by god there are times you wonder where their brains are.. glad he made up for it later tho!!

Tonya - nothing wrong with gettling a little help.. it amazes me still that we're always taught its just fine to get help for abroken leg, and they're quite willing to teach sex ed and biology in school, but they never teach that there may come a time in your life when you need a little help emotionally and that's just as valid as a broken bone.. grrr! Oh.. and that's where the name of our girls night out came from.. the "wine therapy"... it's actually therapy where we can vent with each other and know its like Vegas... doesnt leave the room... only diff is there is wine involved hence the wine therapy LOL.. on occasion my friends call me Lucy and show up with a nickel in their hand, aka the Peanuts cartoon where Lucy has her therapy stall set up! As for movies.. (hanging head in shame).. I honestly can't remember the last movie i saw in a theatre... or on TV.. I admit I am not a movie person and like Tonya.. i simply fall asleep whether at home or in a theatre! I do like an occasional "action" film.. things getting blown up and what not.. and will still watch any Die Hard movie.. but .. its just not my thing usually. Love the theatre but have only gone once a year the past two years.. loved Billy Elliot and Sound of Music on stage, and am hoping to see "Once" in the fall this year..

I don't use a scale, but I do use "visuals".. the plam of my hand for proteins and I keep a 1/2 cup measuring cup hanging on the outside out my cupboard door for when I'm plating... I started THAT the first time I actually measured a 1/2 cup and realized I was eating about 3 cups of pasta back then!! So its a handy eye level reminder for me every day.. so glad to hear s/son's first surgery went well!

Susan!! Those pictures are fantastic.... (who's standing there with their hands up in the air btw?? LOL) such a gorgeous place to hike... you wouldn't get me in a cave mind you... unless I could still see the entrance the whole time! But would LOVE exploring that beautiful sceneryand the mountains.. beyoootiful! So glad you had an awesome time with your friends visit!!!

Carol - I have friends who are huge movie buffs and now they ONLY go to the shows with the lazyboy recliners.. they love it and its a great night out for em - they swear they will never do "Seat"s again!

Jonny and Bis: I had a cruise booked in 1983.. yep.... LOL.. but then the Pope came to town and our unit's annual leave all got cancelled (not that I blame him lol) so I never go to go.. and never tried again since! I'm not sure now if I would altho I have a couple of friends who swear that's all they'll do from now on... hope you have a fantastic time Jonny and Bis is my hero when it comes to doing the C25K so dont be afraid to ask her for any help if ya need it!!!!

Bis: can't even imagine what its like to see those homes destroyed ..... very sad.... its scary the damage mother nature can do as is evident from the awful storms that have hit so many of our MFP's areas this year...

Tammy - even your typing sounded tired - hope you got caught up on the sleep!! Do you have "March break" there? or was your week off a while back the last til end of school?? Hope you're sticking to your guns about not staying late...!!

ok... will start with these... then come back for the rest after laundry!

I have just a quick second before I crash....a couple of things happened today and I am both sad and ecstatic about them.

First....I got a bonus for all of my hard work on the build out and some other things for last year! It wasn't the raise I wanted but still to have my hard work recognized was awesome.

Second....and possibly the best and worst of all, I got the senior discount at Kroger today  I have never gotten one before but since I am such a couponer I was happy to save that 5% but wondered if my hair really did need to be colored again! I haven't had it done since last July so it does have some gray but.....I didn't think it was that bad:laugh:

    Have a great night!

Snoozie yes one week and 2 days until Spring break !!!! Then 4 days until ileap testing for a week then hopefully things will calm down. I was actually thinking today 9 weeks and summer break I can do that !!! Hate to say it but Spring brings the crazy out in junior high students :noway: :noway: :noway: :noway:

Has been a busy week but have walked out every day no later than 4:15 even if it meant leaving the copy machine running as the door shut behind me. I have graded a few papers at home but nothing major and the husband has been at school so was okay I guess. He picks on me b/c I hate when he gone, tells me I am suppose to be glad like all the other woman when their man is gone I ask him hasn't he figured out I am NOT like anyone else yet???  But honestly I hope I never lose these feelings even if it does make my heart sad when he is gone, I lived way to many years not knowing how truly wonderful a loving relationship could be.

Wishing everyone a terrific Thursday. We are suppose to hit 70 tomorrow and Friday with Saturday and Sunday bring 80s so for sure there will be some gardening done this weekend !!!
