T'was a close call with the 4x4 cloggsy!

I don't even think he saw me mate :grumble: :noway:0 -
And finally, what I'm calling a "Billy No Mates" bonus - 1 point extra for anyone who's riding solo... extra kudos to the poor benighted souls out in the freezing conditions for 4-5 hours with only their Garmin and that irritating creak from the rear mudguard for company smile
Mudguards, pah! I laugh in the face of mudguards!0 -
So did I in the end... There's no way oon gods good earth I'm putting crudguards on the Panda
I have to say, after seeing those Vid's, I am getting slightly tempted by one of those go-pro's... though what the Image Quality would be like on this sector - http://app.strava.com/segments/1182777 - is anyone's guess...0 -

A Sony HDR-AS15/AS10 may be your friend; has automatic image stabilisation (& it's a damn site cheaper than a go-pro!)0 -
DNS. Guess I'm OTB, SOL, PDQ, was SAH, need to HTFU. (off the back, straight out of luck, pretty darn quick was sick as heck, need to hardend the f up) GI bugs are nasty little creatures that make for riding 3+ hours away from "civilization" a bit, err...uncomfortable. IF the pros can get sidelined, guess I can too. Next time.0

Provisional Results for the Fourth section of the Classics Challenge are as Follows:
- Oh dear... this is rather embarassing. Me
- Well done to katozdad - and congratulations on your first metric century into the bargain. Chapeau!
- Joint third - narak_lol and FatDadSlim - Same distance to within a few yards, and both posted monster climbs... impossible to split the performance - so I didn't!
And once again well done to everyone who got out there and did a ride - and to those who didn't make it - not to worry - one race doesn't make a classics campaign, plenty of time to catch up.
Sunday, we're in France for what is probably my favourite Classic - the mighty Paris Roubaix. See you all in Compiègne for the start, don't forget the extra layer of handlebar tape and the 28 section tyres0 -

There are times where discretion is the better part of valour mate, and frankly, nobody want's to be having a "Greg Lemond Episode" just for the sake of some strange bloke on the internet and his mad-as-a-fish riding challenge... Hope you're on the mend - take care of yourself mate, get well, and come back stronger0 -
Good Job TBY a strong ride well deserved!
2 each.. i will need to start taking some pictures to catch up0 -
I just did a slightly longer loop than my regular sunday run, thinking that as it was a bank-holiday weekend over here, a few people might be "on a big one", and I just wanted to keep in the top 3-4 riders (I'm limited with the time I can ride, so I'm pretty much having to try and peg my overall attempt on consistency rather than outright distance work)0
-
Nice ride everyone, I wish I could have joined you, but in New York looking at Colleges with my daughter.0
-
Hooray for finally getting on the board
Looking forward to Paris Roubaix next weekend
P.S. I actually did end up having some Belgian Chocolate yesterday, but it was frozen yogurtI would post a picture just for fun, but I can't seem to figure out how to do so.. any advice?

Can't tell you how excited & happy I was to see TBY's explanation & decision - thus managed to sneak in for a podium spot
Really amazing that we covered pretty much the same distance, FDS (and you're right, I am so pleased with this call!)
As others said above, can't wait for the Paris Roubaix. Looks like the race will be fiercely competed - maybe more than the real thing haha0 -
Can we have a separate column for the 'overall' leaderboard please TBY?0
-
I've seen variations of +- 50 yards in the distance recorded on my GPS on an identical 50km course on two consecutive days using the same GPS unit, so frankly measuring distances down to a sub 100m resolution is a bit of a farce, and the only fair solution in my eyes was to call it a tie...0

With some small degree of trepidation... here you go...0 -

Shouldn't it be this:
If points decide the placings?0 -
The points don't match the last update? (the one which shows the results from the 4 classics)0
-
Overall results now corrected... god only knows what I'd done wrong before :noway:0
-
Under the circumstances I think you're excused!0

I was somewhat distracted - I posted that whilst waiting for the Dr. to come out and check on my dad... serves me right for trying to just do a "quick and dirty" spreadsheet hack rather than actually thinking things through properly (as I did for the grand tour stuff)
Anyhooo - onwards and upwards - I've posted the usual "potted history" (culled from wikipeda) of Sundays Race in the entries thread, and surprisingly it's looking like I MAY be able to get a ride in this week (barring any complications with my dad, obviously)
I think we'll go for cobbles (naturally), and an extra point for a photo of a windmill in-ride...
suggestions for any other spot-prizes welcomed.0 -

Post ride = Kronenbourg 1664
Bonus = Pictures of dirty face/bike combo.0 -
Would just like to ask if TBY could clarify my points total please. As one post above states 45 points, but latest shows 35. It might have something to do with the conversation with Fatdadslim, but cant be sure. Thanks Carl.0

Carl - it's pretty much what FDS said... basically, I donald-ducked up, then fixed it and kept the same image file name for the fixed chart to save re-editing.
you're definitely on 45 pts (4+0,16+3,DNS and 20+2 for the 4 rounds so far)0 -
Okay - after a bit of thought (and a wander around the Supermarket for inspiration...)
Photo Bonuses
1pt for cobbles/pave... not dirt roads in this case, it MUST be the genuine article, as that's the whole deal with Paris-Roubaix
1pt for a windmill in ride - wind farm turbines/ wind driven waterpumps will not be counted, neither will former windmills now converted to homes unless they still have full sails in operation.
Supplementary Bonuses
1 point for the Recovery Drink - to make it a relatively widely available beer, we'll go with FDS's suggestion of Kronenbourg 1664 (even if most of the UK available stock is probably brewed in Burton on Trent!)
1 point only for your choice of...
Any French Patisserie (including brioche etc.) in ride or post ride.
Croissants (presumably as a pre-ride breakfast)
Any Baguette related sandwich action - either as a cafebreak, post-ride refuel - or even old-school bikie style cut into bitesized morsels and wrapped in aluminium foil then stuffed in your shirt-pockets
Eat all three if you do a big enough ride, but you're only likely to get credit for one of 'em...0 -
Welp, I'm not getting any spot points. No pave/cobbles anywhere in this state, nearest location for Kronenbourg is over 400 miles away (per BeerFinder) and the only windmills around here are farm-related. I might however be able to track down a frenchie pastry-type-treat, not sure Walmart has a "French Baking Section" though.
At least I get to ride under bright blue skies and warm temps (highs on Sunday: 66, light winds), no cold wet windy Classics weather for me! :glasses:0 -
<===== I was hoping that we would get 5 points for riding a bike named after this ride.0
-
Submissions thread open for any early starters... I may not be around much to monitor things over the weekend - Dad's taken a small turn for the worse :frown:0
-
Can't locate kronenbourg - but found Leffe - will it count :huh:0
