Al, the entries thread is http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/866408-mfp-cycling-classics-challenge?page=5#posts-14686633 - i've copied this post quoted into there for you. If you wish to confirm details in that thread just drop a 1-liner in to say so.

To be honest, I've expected this to happen before now - that's the downside of having separate entries and discussion threads I guess...

Well - it's getting to the point where we also need to start looking for signups to the "Grand Tour Challenge" I suppose... Anyone up for it ?

This one's a "team based" challenge - over the duration of each of the grand tours, 9 riders on a team attempt to ride the distance of that day's stage - so - if the stage is 180km, each of the riders needs to do an average of 20km to get a Total for the day of 180km. Obviously, not everyone can ride every day (or 21 days out of 23 for example with the Giro), some people ride more, some less, but every rider counts. Last year we had 2 teams for LeTour and La Vuelta, both teams aced the distances so it's eminently do-able...

I'll try and get a "proper" dedicated thread up for the Grand Tour Stuff - probably a single discussion thread starting with a formal "signup sheet" then a "Entries Thread" for each of the 3 Grand Tours.

It's gratifying though that already we've nearly a full rosta for a first team...

EDIT: Thread opened for the Grand Tour Stuff on http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/964334-mfp-grand-tour-cycling-challenge-discussion-signup-thread - please keep any future GrandTour Discussion etc. in there, and we'll retain this thread for the Classics Challenge.

What a horrible day for a Bike ride today, blue skies, warm sunshine low winds. Much better to wait until tomorrow's classic when the rain returns :glasses:

Yeah - shocking isn't it... mind - I had absolutely NOTHING in the tank yesterday, completely "cooked" as Sean would say, so I'd be having a day off the bike if it was 30c sunny and a tailwind that was mounted to the rear wheel and followed you wherever you went!

I've booked you in as #311, leader on the second team - I'll do the second bunch of numbers this evening with a bit of luck...

The weather here is good too. 20-24C and a bit sunshine (with some light showers thrown in), I even got the enviable tan lines in the arms  Hoping for similar weather on Sunday!

Okay - spot prizes on Sunday's Liège - Bastogne - Liège

I liked the "Railway Level Crossing" Photo Bonus idea for 1 point in ride

for those unsure of what I mean... something like this...

    43_09_12_web.jpg

    - drink's a given - anything Belgian (beer/cidre)

    - As It's too short notice for shopping, I'll throw the snack bonus open to 1 point only for anything mentioned on the "Belgian cuisine" wikipedia page ?? - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belgian_cuisine

    - usual "climb bonus" - 1pt for each 500m ascent up to a max of 3pts/1500+ metres.

How do you scout for 1,500+ meter climbs? Google doesn't help, and I find the Strava Segments difficult to explore too.

It's not a single climb of that distance - there isn't a mountain that high in the UK, it's 1,500M of climbing over the entire ride... I'm not that sadistic mate

To hit the bigger ascents, I'm guessing for you it's ride towards Penistone, then make for the classic stuff like the Cat & Fiddle, Holme Moss, Snake Pass - that sort of thing. There is an interesting website - http://www.climbbybike.com/ - that lists loads of classic cycling hills/mountains, and allows you to search by country...

Fantastic ride Fran - I'm really sorry, I forgot to open the actual submissions thread before I went out, so I've copied this post into the proper entries thread - if you can post in there to confirm i've copied it properly (just for transparency for everyone else) that'd be cool (and the gang ) - http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/866408-mfp-cycling-classics-challenge?page=6

I actually took a much needed rest this weekend. Yes, zero saddle time. It was nice - but hard to just relax. Looking forward to the Giro!

Want to finish off the classics with something epic on 5th October. I'm serious considering jumping on a train to York and doing the proposed Stage 2 of the 2014 Tour De France. 200km will be my biggest ride yet, but I think I've got it in me. That said, it would be so much better if a few of us could get together to ride.

I think we could get three of us together at least if your up for it.

I don't want to leave others elsewhere feeling marginalised, so have a think about who is near you for a similar ride if your up for it.

Just a little "Thread Bump" - I've updated the "rides thread" to give a few details on the Final stage of the Classics Challenge - The Giro de Lombardia... Thought I'd give everyone plenty of notice as to the Date of this one - Sunday 6th October.

Also - I suppose we need to give some thought about the "spot prizes" for this one...

Photo Bonuses - 1pt each for "Autumnal Leaves" pictures or "Roadside Church/Chapel"

In Ride Bonus - 1 point for 500m of ascent, 2 points for 1000m, 3 Points for 1500m or above.

Food Bonus - 1 point for picture of... well - anything Italian basically

Recovery Drink Bonus - 1 point (as with Food - so Glass/Bottle of Chianti, Peroni/Moretti Beer, Espresso... you know the drill by now!)

Sounds like fun but I'll be on fly fishing trip without a bicycle! Unless we count the number of casts (and I don't think my Garmin has an option for that one), I will enjoy reading about the exploits of others!

I think I got as much pleasure reading everyone's ride reports as I did from doing the rides (this being especially so for some of the real early season rule #9 rides) - the "photo bonuses" and so forth are really just a crafty way to get people to "interact" a little more on the challenge thread. Well - that and a little bit of "food and drink porn" of course
