How is everyone keeping their weight gain so low. This is my first pregnancy so I'm having a hard time. I feel like I have to diet. What sort of calorie range etc or tools to find out ? Eating your "maintain" calorie amount? I'm 14 weeks and up 7, I can only gain like 15 the whole pregnancy and thinking that will not be realistic. Any tips I'd appreciate it! I was having severe food aversions first trimester so I was chowing down on tons of carbs. Hoping now that I can eat more salads that will calm down a bit. In the gym about 3-4 times out of 7 days.

CurvyGirl14-Congrats on your pregnancy! I gained 40 lbs during each of my first 2 pregnancies- I was not tracking calories or regularly exercising. This time around I decided I wanted to be healthier so I joined MFP during my second trimester. I adjusted my calories to add 300 to maintenance (1500 + 300) so about 1800 during the 2nd and 3rd trimester. I worked out 6 days a week- my pre-pregnancy workout (alternating elliptical and weight lifting) until week 30 something. Since then I have been MUCH slower- sticking mostly to walking and occasional weight lifting. Keeping weight gain to 15 lbs does sound challenging, but you can do it! Good luck!

Thanks Rosy! I think mine around around 1800. But if I was cutting cals before around 1400 should I only do around 1700. I made an appointment with a nutritionist so hoping they can help me! :)

@curvy I have just been eating my maintenance calories and if I am more hungry I eat a bit more. But it's been balancing around maintenance and I've still been gaining normally and the baby is measuring average in size so far. Since there's 7 weeks left and I've gained 17lb, I'm probably going to get pretty close to 25lb gained. I think it's a great idea to see a nutritionist because it will be helpful to see what macros you need to meet as well as the daily calories. Eating healthy food is very important and meeting your iron and calcium especially; this is the first pregancy when I'm tracking what I eat and the only of four where I'm not severely iron deficient. But I don't think I could do 15lb for the whole pregnancy, I didn't change my calories but some weeks I've had 2lb jumps in weight for no discernible reason.. I think it might even be partial water weight (like amniotic fluid and water retention), the body will do what it needs to to nourish you and baby :)

There have been suggestion to up your calories for the second/third trimester but I have not done that because I've been gaining normally, the baby measures average, and I don't have more hunger on most days. On the days I am hungry I just eat a bit more and log it. I also try to go for a daily walk as I just can't do other stuff anymore lol..

What has really encouraged me this week is that I took my measurements because I felt like a huge house lol.. and the only measurement that had changed after 33 weeks is my waist (up by 12") and my hips went out by 1" (which is really not bad considering that it seems like my whole pelvic area is loose lol).

With my first pregnancy I put on close to 50 pounds I think. I never tracked what I ate and did very little exercise other than walking to work. This time I ate at 1/2 pound lose +exercise calories until sometime in the second trimester and than moved up to weight 'maintain' calories +exercise calories. There were a few weeks between weeks 22-28 (when baby is growing rapidly) when I was really hungry and I always ate something if I needed too. I have been exercising at least 40 minutes 6 days a week, doing a variety of things, though when I hit 34 weeks I moved that target down to 40 minutes 3 days and week and 20 minutes 3 days a week as it is getting more difficult. I know from my last pregnancy I put on a huge amount in the last 5 weeks (14 pounds!) so as I enter that time in this pregnancy I am working hard to keep it down. I'm definitely not as hungry now as I was a few weeks ago though and do not need any extra calories! The weight gain has been pretty steady at about a pound a week after 20 weeks, but there have been weeks when I have gained more and that's just pregnancy. It can't always be controlled! I don't know if 15 pounds is realistic. I wouldn't have been for me, and I had a starting weight on the higher side of healthy. I should come in at close to 25 pounds if things continue as they have done, and I'd be really happy with that! Good luck, just do your best and don't be too hard on yourself, pregnancy is meant to be a special time. :)

I am currently 32 weeks pregnant (well tomorrow I will be) and my weight is increasing rapidly during the last three weeks. I don't know what the heck is going on but it can totally stop now!

So at 29 weeks I was up to 19 pounds gained.

At 32 weeks I am up to 24 pounds gained, eek!

I really want to stay at 30 pounds gained like I did with my last two kids but I'm afraid that I'm going to go over that. So I need to really, really watch my food intake and my water intake and keep on exercising!

I'm just now about 14 weeks and I've actually lost 2 pounds which I wasn't expecting to gain for some reason in my past two pregnancies I've only gained about 1-2 pounds (not counting the baby)
