Jeez...after reading all of your wonderful weight gain numbers I am feeling pretty crappy. I am 12 weeks tomorrow and I have already gained 5 lbs! Plus, I was overweight to start with so my goal was to gain only 15 pounds. I think I have gained so much because I have been so sick and eating crappy processed food (or even fast food, gasp!) has been the only thing that makes me feel better. Luckily, my all day sickness has started to ease up so I will be passing on the pop tarts and getting my butt off the couch for some exercise!

Don't feel bad - you are not the only one! I too have felt awful and eaten really badly as it was the only thing that helped me... At week 14 I had gained 14lb! I'm not at week 16 and it seems to have settled, in fact last weigh in my weight gain was at 13lb so I'm hoping I'll even out for a bit before putting any more on!

Last pregnancy I only put 25lb on in total and was over weight to start (I was just in the normal range when I became pregnant) and I didn't watch what I ate at all!

Both of you aren't alone! I like to come to this thread to torture (ER...motivate:)) myself. I am 22 weeks and already up 17 lbs...I started off BMI 25 so I only wanted to gain 20....pretty sure that isn't going to happen. Truthfully at this point I will be happy to keep it at 40 like I did with my second.

I did increase my cals by 200 a day and I've gone over some days but 2lbs a week seems so high...ugh. The thing is, I'm starving all the time right now - just absolutely starving - so I'm thinking baby just needs me to gain weight right now, but 7lbs in a month and 6lbs in 3 weeks is mucking with me. I hate that it bothers me so much, but it really does.

I'm 28 weeks now and up 10 lbs. I have been holding steady at 10 for the past month. I had my check up yesterday and my midwife didn't say a word about the lack of wt gain so I'm just going to keep going with my current eating plan. My belly seems to be growing by leaps and bounds these days!!!

Don't worry, I don't think it will keep being +2lb every week. You're in the time when the baby is growing a lot! Week 20 to about 28 is where I gained the bulk of my weight also. It slowed down for me after that for a bit :)

    doing great @kcasey155!

Thank you! But am feeling as if it may be the calm before the storm. I know I'm about to head into growth spurt territory and I've only 4 weeks until the kids are out of school for seven weeks of summer holidays. It's like walking up a volcano and you know it's a bad idea to jump in, but heading there anyway!

You've also done really well yourself!

34 weeks pregnant 18 lb gained
35 weeks pregnant 17 lb gained (was sick this week)
36 weeks pregnant 18 lb gained

I am starting to feel really uncomfortable with my large belly, but I'm super glad that the baby has finally turned head down. Everything looks good in the ultrasound.. I am having a return of back pain now and not even the pregnancy belt (prenatal cradle) thing is helping my back anymore.. I guess when you have 18lb stuck on your belly it just puts a huge strain on your back lol.. My measurements from pre-pregnancy are all the same except for a couple of inches on my hips and a lot of inches on my waist :) I can't wait to have this baby now, 4 weeks left seems like forever.

@igottaworkout - I think the last four weeks are designed to make you grateful for labour when it finally comes otherwise there's no way any of us would go through it again and again! However, don't wish these last weeks away as they are all important for baby and are about preparing both of you for what's ahead.

@mommyshortlegs and hbarnstein - You girls are right on track. Look at each others weights and those previously recorded on this thread and you will find the majority of people have put on exactly what you have at this time in your pregnancy. This level of weight gain should soon come to a halt and you'll both level out again for a few weeks until the final stretch, going on the patterns I've seen. Do not despair! I know it's hard putting on the weight when you've done so well to lose it, but it's not you gaining it's the babies and really you two know that!

Whereas I'm logging my weight to show other overweight girls a different example. I've no idea where my weight will go, but I am just trying my darnest to keep it steady and be as fit as I am able, while I am able. Every week I cringe while getting on the scale, all the while being excited about the little girl now clearly growing inside of me. I started out in size 18 (UK size) clothes and am now definitely down to a size 16 in maternity clothes. The bump is growing while I must be unintentionally losing, however because my skin has lost it's taughtness the weight loss on me doesn't show. I'm not bothered about looking slimmer, but I don't like the fact it makes me look older having such loose skin! I really don't like the sponginess of it either and I know it won't be back to normal until I give up breastfeeding in two years time. Either way I'm too tired to now remember my point! Darn it...

Thank you Kcasey - I do know it, it's just hard to see it jump so fast. I have stopped logging for now because logging was stressing me out; my redemption in weight loss has always been that I get out what I put in, calorically, and during pregnancy my body isn't following "the rules" - which is such a silly way to think of it, but it took me a while to give up logging and acknowledge that my body is just going to do what it needs to do. I am not eating 100% junk, I am eating when I am hungry, and I am not gorging...so it just is what is. And it will be what it will be!

Thank you Kcasey, I guess I'm just fed up with not feeling like my body is mine :D

And you other girls are doing great with your weight gain! Truly the body does what it wants to and there are times when the lbs just pile on, for me during weeks 20 to 28 it really added up a lot no matter what I ate :) I am luckily not really swelling much or retaining water, probably because I love to drink peppermint tea and just started red raspberry leaf tea because it's supposed to shorten labor and make it easier as well.

I decided to go through my older pictures from when I started loosing weight, to when I first found out I was pregnant to now and it encourages me because I really look worse before (even though I feel like a house now with my belly constantly jutting out there) :) From the first picture to the last picture I had net lost 5lb, from first to middle picture I had lost 23lb.

Looks like I'm in growth spurt territory with you girls now! I had a really good week, lots of exercise, not over-doing the calories. Don't think I'm retaining water and my bowels are just fine temporarily ;) Although I must admit to thinking about chocolate ALL week, but only gave in to one mint Aero bar, mmmmm. Am starting to find my ankles swelling on hot days when I do a lot of walking now and have had a bit of sciatica(?) down my left side which has slowed me down at times, but so far so good. Still loving it!
