@Kcasey you are doing so great with your weight! I'm sure you will meet your goals.

@Erin, you are doing awesome too! Only 6 weeks left! :)

@mommyshortleg wow, you are doing an awesome job!

@hbarnstein I hope you are doing ok and not much stress this week! I don't think there's an actual logic to the weight gain either.. Some weeks I gained 2lb, some weeks nothing with the same diet :) Don't worry, baby is just getting what it needs out of your food.

Here is my last check in, 1 week post partum.

Height: 5'6", starting weight 125lb, eating at maintenance for whatever weight I was at during the pregnancy (I adjusted my weight in mfp to get a new calorie goal, it went from 1500-1700 over the course of my pregnancy)

    16 weeks pregnant: 1lb gained
    18 weeks pregnant: 2lb gained
    19 weeks pregnant 2.5lb gained
    20 weeks pregnant 3.5lb gained
    21 weeks pregnant 5lb gained
    22 weeks pregnant 7lb gained
23 weeks pregnant 9 lb gained
24 weeks pregnant 9 lb gained
25 weeks pregnant 10 lb gained
26 weeks pregnant 12 lb gained
27 weeks pregnant 13 lb gained
28 weeks pregnant 14 lb gained
29 weeks pregnant 15 lb gained
30 weeks pregnant 15.5 lb gained
31 weeks pregnant 16 lb gained
    32 weeks pregnant 16.5lb gained
33 weeks pregnant 17 lb gained
34 weeks pregnant 18 lb gained
35 weeks pregnant 17 lb gained
36 weeks pregnant 18 lb gained
37 weeks pregnant 19 lb gained
38 weeks pregnant 20 lb gained
39 weeks pregnant 21 lb gained
40 weeks pregnant 7 lb gained (had my 9lb baby yay!)
1 week postpartum 1lb gained (back at 126lb) wohoo!

I think eating at maintenance really did work, it maintained my original weight! Breastfeeding is going really well and my baby was at 9lb1oz (1oz gained) at 5 days old which the midwife said is awesome as she expected him to weigh a bit less. (this proves to me that I didn't have to gain 7lb extra of maternal fat to support breastfeeding like the 'experts' say..) This has been my best pregnancy ever and if I could go back in time I would tell myself not to eat for two, but just to maintain my weight, that is all that is needed while pregnant :) I would have saved myself 15 years of having mommy fat that was super hard to get rid of..

My plan going forward while breastfeeding is to monitor my weight, not to loose more until the baby is weaned as I don't want to loose more currently, and I'm going to do the 30 day shred when I have my strength back, and then maybe start some heavy lifting to tone up. I'm so happy to have a wonderful healthy baby and my body will soon be back to be able to exercise too!

While on a walk yesterday I felt like I could just start running forever because I felt so much more balanced and lighter, but at only 1 week postpartum I guess I shouldn't so I didn't.. but I really wanted to lol! My bleeding is almost stopped, I'm just using a liner now and since I didn't rip during birth I'm feeling almost back to normal, just my back is still sore. I'm planning on seeing a chiropractor next week to see if my back is ok, that is the only thing different currently from when I started. I wish all you ladies the best of luck with the pregnancy and weight gain, don't stress so much over it because I stressed and it wasn't even necessary :)

Could be Jaylas_mom - it's been very hot. It could also just be that we're in huge growth spurt territory and baby needed it this week. Unless the pattern continues or accelerates a one-off isn't bad, and you're doing great. :)

I reweighed myself this morning, and I can adjust this, since I weighed 1.4 lbs less this morning than yesterday!

Could be Jaylas_mom - it's been very hot. It could also just be that we're in huge growth spurt territory and baby needed it this week. Unless the pattern continues or accelerates a one-off isn't bad, and you're doing great. :)

    Down 2 pounds today. Whew!!!

Just finally getting around to joining this thread. Just hit 6 weeks yesterday so still very early in my pregnancy. Had trouble eating properly last week due to extreme nausea but it seems to be getting a bit better and a little easier for me. Already managed to gain 3 or 4 pounds of water weight lol, hoping that that disappears next week at weigh in, plus I just feel so uncomfortable due to it.

So my starting weight was 190 lbs

    Week 4 -.4
    Week 5 -.2
    Week 6 +4
  • Had my 24 week check up today. Haven't had any weight gain since week 16, but it's still not enough. My doctor was not happy that I gained 20 pounds in the first 16 weeks (I was so sick I couldn't exercise.) So, I'm on track to gain another 20 pounds at least by the end of the pregnancy, according to the doctor. Not thrilled that all my hard work still isn't enough. Feeling defeated.

I completely disagree. Your hard work MATTERS! Don't beat yourself up for being unable to exercise if you were sick. There's nothing you can do about that, and it's not your fault. Eight weeks of no gain -- if it's because you're eating healthy and staying fit -- is an accomplishment, and you should be proud! Who is that doctor to say what will happen in the next sixteen weeks? He can't predict the future, only tell you what is average. And it sounds to me like he is making assumptions that do not take into account your healthy changes.

If you let the doctor discourage you, you will be tempted to either undereat and overexercise (not good for you or the baby!), or give up (also not good for either of you!) Don't let him do that to you. Be proud of what you've accomplished so far!

BTW, even if you do gain another 20 pounds, if you do it while eating right and exercising appropriately, then it's what your body *needed* and you should not be ashamed of it. Be proud of doing the best you can for your baby, no matter how much you gain in the end.

Seconded! You clearly were not morbidly obese to start with so I don't see a problem with your weight gain. Well done!

I definitely agree with these ladies! I think you look great & are doing great. I gained in the beginning to from being on bed rest & depressed about it. And like you I haven't gained since. Keep up the good work. Sounds like the doc is a jerk. None of the midwives I've seen would make me feel that way & I did start out way more overweight than I should have!
