Soooo...had the dreaded weigh in yesterday morning and at 20 weeks, I've gained a total of 11.5 pounds (146pds total). To me, this sounds like A LOT considering I have 20 more weeks to go but my doctor seemed like it was completely normal since I started off at a healthy weight (135). I have been logging my food intake (probably eating less than before) and working out 5-6 days a week so I'm not really sure where all of the weight is coming from. Ultrasound showed that Cruz is only weighing 1 pound right now. :) Anyone else gained around this amount at 20 weeks? My BF% is fairly low still but for some reason the number on the scale drives me crazy!

I beleive i was up about 12 lbs at 20 weeks and i gained a lot of weight in my 2nd trimester (2 lbs in 1st trimester and 17 lbs in the 2nd trimester) Once i hit my 3rd trimester it slowed down majorly. I maintained for about a month and then am slowly gaining about a half a lb a week. I have been logging my food intake throughout this pregnancy and working out 4-5 days a week.

All that water you're drinking is helping to create more blood cells, protein and other healthy nutrients are adding volume to your body and into making your baby. Here ya go!

How much more will I weigh during pregnancy?

By the end of your pregnancy, you may weigh about 12.5kg (27.6lb) more than you did before you were pregnant.

It's natural and healthy to put on weight during pregnancy. Your body needs to change to accommodate your growing baby, and to give him the best start in life.

By the time you reach your due date, just over a third of your extra weight will come from your baby, the placenta and amniotic fluid. Here are some averages:
At birth, a baby weighs about 3.3kg (7.3lb).
The placenta, which keeps your baby nourished, weighs 0.7kg (1.5lb).
The amniotic fluid, which supports and cushions your baby, weighs 0.8kg (1.8lb).

The other two thirds of extra weight is due to the changes that happen to your body while you're pregnant. On average:
The muscle layer of your uterus (womb) grows dramatically, and weighs an extra 0.9kg (2lb).
Your blood volume increases, and weighs an extra 1.2kg (2.6lb).
You have extra fluid in your body, weighing about 1.2kg (2.6lb).
Your breasts weigh an extra 0.4kg (0.9lb).
You store fat, about 4kg (8.8lb), to give you energy for breastfeeding.
What is my body mass index, and how will it change?

Your body mass index (BMI) measures your weight in relation to your height. It's an accurate way of telling whether or not your weight is in the healthy range. The amount of weight that you should put on in pregnancy depends on what your BMI was before you were pregnant.

Your midwife will calculate your BMI at your booking appointment. You can also work out your BMI using our calculator. Enter the weight that you were before you conceived.

There are no official guidelines for weight gain in pregnancy in the UK. There is only general advice that most women put on somewhere between 10kg and 12.5kg (22lb to 28lb). You'll gain most of the weight after 20 weeks.

See below for average weight gain:
    Pre-pregnancy BMI

    Total weight gain
    Underweight Less than 18.5 13kg to 18kg (28lb to 40lb)
    Normal weight 18.5 to 24.9 11.5kg to 16kg (25lb to 35lb)
    Overweight 25 to 29.9 7kg to 11.5kg (15lb to 25lb)
    Obese 30 or more 5kg to 9kg (11lb to 20lb)

Have my 16w appt tonight. Last time I went I had lost a lb. It will be interesting to see where I am. I don't go until 6pm so I always weigh myself at the same time the day of my visit. I know its not official, but I'd rather be consistent. Great job everyone that has been able to keep their weight gains to a minimum. I'm hoping to not have a positive gain until 20wks or so. Can't wait to enjoy turkey day!!!

The 20 week mark is when I all the sudden bloated up 12lbs (In week 16, I was 259, dropped 5lbs and was at 254 in week 17) and by week 20 I was 266! Granted, I didn't eat the best of foods bc of birthday parties and being sick, but I couldn't imagine gaining 12lbs of actual weight! Still there and gained a few more since... you betcha I picked up my exercise routine pretty quick after that, lol.

i started out at about 127, lost a couple of pounds the first few months due to ZERO appetite (luckily, not tons of puking), put those few pounds back on around the 10 week mark, and now at almost 16 weeks i am at 130. so, about +3-5 for me so far. i'm so happy my appetite was back in time for thanksgiving! my goal is to gain about 25-35 pounds, as recommended by my midwife.

I've gained a lot of weight in the short 12 weeks that I've been pregnant. I think a lot of it is due to the fact that I ate only around 1000-1,200 calories before being pregnant. After I found out I stopped counting calories. And I really haven't been eating that great either but its hard to find foods that will stay down. It has been slowly getting better and I have been able to return to eating healthier foods. But so far I've gained about 18lbs.. :(

My pre pregnancy weight was anywhere between 206-208 (not sure). My goal is only to gain 10-15lbs this pregnancy. So far I've been eating about 1900 calories. In first trimester I kept it at 1700. I also TRY to keep check on my sugars, and carbs. I hope that I can do this. I really want to start working out soon. But work, school, housework, and caring for my two year old has been keeping me busy. Not to mention that I get really fatigued easily.

    Starting weight- 6 weeks-214
    10 weeks-208 (-6)
    11 weeks-207(-1)
    15 week-208.8 (+1.8)

    Start 185.5

    Weight at week 16. 3 days - 178.5 ( -7)
    Week 19- 180.0 (-5.5)
    Week 24- 185.5 ( 0) back to starting weight,

Now I need to be more careful about sweets!!. I def ate more I. The last month than I should have a lb a week won't keep me at my goal which is just 10lbs away. But it is what it is. I have been walking every other day though.

Before leaving to visit family for Thanksgiving I was fluctuating between 2-3 pounds gained. We're flying home today and for the past week I have eaten (multiple) pieces of pie every singe day. Also bread, sooo much bread! I cook 90% Paleo at home but we loosen up and eat what we want when we go out, which includes eating at other peoples homes.

It'll be interesting to see what the scales say. I did manage to run for ~30min every day we have been here though.

If I go by my scale at home, I have gained a ton of weight, so for once I like the doctor's scale. To date, I have only gained 5 pounds, so not too bad considering I am 21 weeks in and feel like I eat all the time. We lost track of cooking healthier once I got pregnant because I had so many food aversions and crappy cravings, but we are starting to cook better now (more turkey, veggies, and fruit).

dreamatdusk...I can relate. I have pretty much the same story---found out I was preg and stopped counting calories. I'm back to counting (as of a few hours ago LOL) because I feel out of control.

    Sounds like you needed it.
That's the way my pregnancy goes, too. I start gaining from the moment I conceive because I develop an unsatiable appetite that first trimester. I go back to 'normal' after that, but by then, my body's metabolism has changed with the pregnancy, so I just continue to gain.
But, with breastfeeding, it all melts off within the first 8 weeks, so I figure my body knows what it's doing/what it needs in order to survive those demands of early motherhood.
