Hi all,
I just joined this group and MFP, so I am not sure how I would join this challenge, but I guess I can prorate it or something. I just started walking to Leslie's DVDs about 3 months ago, and then, I let the holidays derail me from continuing to walk. I am a beginning walker, so I am not sure what would be considered a "good try" for the last week and a half of a month. Maybe someone here can motivate me to just get started walking again, eh? Then, next month, I can be ready for a February challenge. Obviously, I need the support this group offers!0 -

1/21: I did the 5 mile advanced walk this morning. This evening I'll do a 2 mile Start walking tape. So today will be 53/60 miles done for the month. I may readjust to see if I can get more since we still have time in the month left.

Welcome Kanndj! I am delighted that you have just joined MFP and searched out a LS walking group at the same time. That rocks!!
As far as information about the group take a peek at the very first post introducing January's challenge.
Since you are a new walker and haven't walked much over the holidays I would suggest walking one mile a day. If you find that way too easy then add in a second mile maybe every other day. If too difficult then walk a half mile and work up to a mile. I recommend (and I do this on Sunday most weeks) is to take at least one day rest from planned exercise a week. Pick the day that works the best for you.
As far as choosing how many miles for your "challenge" ~ count the days remaining in the month and subtract your number of rest days planned, and that would be your miles if you are aiming at 1 mile a day. Some months I increase or lower my miles depending on what is going on that month, or if I'm adding in another kind of exercise I'll lower the mileage to accommodate both. Play around with your numbers and make it a challenge but still fun!
It is your challenge, make it work for you .
