Well, my confession - I am having a "love affair" with a spoon and a jar of creamy peanut butter! Oh, how so good it is - but oh, how bad it is.

I am a couple of days late getting into this discussion but I too have a downfall for all things nutty. (friends, hubby, food). As I am just getting to read these posts guess what I am now craving. First a little background, I discovered over 30 years ago I must eat before bed unless I want to be awake at 3am. I have tried fruit, vegetables, meat, cheese, sugar ( then I don't get to sleep so no worry about waking up.) The only thing that works is starches and fats including nuts. I can leave a bag of potato chips alone for years but a jar of nuts.....they have my siren song. So back to the craving your writing induced. When I was in the US last week I bought a jar of PB2 to help get my protein up. So tonight I mixed some up so I could pretend it was real peanut butter and spread it on some really awful sugar free cookies. The hope being that the cookies would taste better. They did - somewhat but more importantly the PB2 satisfied my peanut butter craving. Whew! PB2 has some salt and sugar in it but so do most commercial peanut butters.

???? Good night all. I plan on sleeping past 3 am. Thank you for the nudge to try something new!

I've been quiet this weekend (maybe you hadn't noticed LOL).
    Update from marilynworld:
I think I love my new Fitbit Zip It, however, is trying to kill me. The first day it wanted me to burn 2184 calories. Ok, I managed. Now it wants me to burn 2584 calories a day (including the almost 600 I get for waking up and breathing). Ummmm... I only eat usually around 1200. I think a 1300 calorie deficit per day is a bit crazy. Will get a better feel for it this week.
I'm finding that i'm not as sedentary as I was when I started this ride. Husband Rick was flabbergasted?, , disbelieving?, astounded?... i think I'll just say 'impressed' since it sounds better that I did almost 8000 steps on my lazy first day of having the FitBit, and about 12,000 the second day.
I don't think I like Sundays. Especially rainy ones. it's the day i don't exercise, but also the day when we often eat out, followed by an evening of watching a few t.v. shows (read: snacking). May have to address the Sunday conundrum!
I used to color my hair - a nice golden shade instead of my mousy brown. Then when i started to gray, I started getting this truly white blond streak right at the front, and thought... that's cool. Let's see how that works out. It has grown to several inches at the front now, with the back still kind of mousy brown that appears lighter because it's got some gray mixed in. As long as the hair stylists continue to be jealous of my natural streaks, I'll just leave it alone. I DO however, have some purple color that I so desperately want to put SOMEWHERE in my hair - just have to figure out where :glasses:

I'm scared to death that when I lose this weight every one of my wrinkles and new AND old stretch marks are going to glow in the dark. I don't even want to look at all that 'old stuff' that hangs from my arms

I spent 30 minutes looking at the cost of tummy tuck/boob lift/general cosmetic surgery in Thailand. And the cost of three weeks in Thailand. Dang. I think I might have to just live with whatever I end up with

I am NOT a morning person any more, so enjoy your Monday coffee/tea etc. When I'm human in the morning i might holler hi

HELLO FROM YOUR MORNING PERSON! IT IS MONDAY! RISE AND SHINE! LET'S GET THIS GOING ON!! GIVE YOURSELVES A BIG HUG! I am so happy to have this lively group to be lively with today :)

I believe it helps to read other people's angst about anything. So thanks for sharing here. I am not trying to be nosey or expect solutions. It is just that I really enjoy our humanness. In some dear, tender way, I feel calmer knowing people are nearby who are real with me. I can understand because I have feelings too. Part of my overeeating is driven by my needs to fill up my heart. So thank you for being here.

On aging, I know that I am becoming a better person, I swear it is true, as I age. I don't want this stage of my life to go fast at all. I want to savor it and appreciate what I have been given.

I think winter brings me down big time. I am rising up now just like hyacinths :) Have fun today!!!

    I'm enjoying reading everyone's posts..

When I turned 50, I struggled with it. I didn't want to look "old" (I still don't) and then after I finally accepted it, I promptly put on 20 pounds. So.. I got a little TOO comfy there..

Hair: I still color mine. Every now and then I think I'll just let it go but... when I get about 3/4 of an inch of drab grey roots showing, I chicken out and run out and buy a couple more boxes of Miss Clairol (or whoever is on sale)

My struggle right now is exercise. If I do more than 20 minutes of anything, my blood sugar tanks and I just want to go lie down.
Some days are good. Some days are hard. I can't eat any less. I'm on a 1300 calories a day goal and while my diary shows that I'm always UNDER that, I'm sure it's not true. Because how accurate IS that calorie counter? Does it really know how many calories are in MY home-made meatloaf?

On the other hand.. I figure..it's another day above ground.

My birth mother died from a heart attack when she was in her mid-50's, and I've gone past that.

I often wish I didn't have to be SO OBSESSED with food. Eat this. Don't eat that. Don't even THINK about other things. PFFT.
I hate that. But when I relax...all hell breaks loose.

In other news, we are leaving Sunday for a 2 week vacation. I've got clothes to sort and pack and although my pants are NOT the lower size I had hoped I'd be wearing, I'm going to have a GOOD time.

    :drinker:

Loving reading this now I am back online.........I will throw my comments into the mix.....

Like Gramana I am struggling to lose the last few pounds and sometimes wonder if I should bother continuing........ people say do not eat too few calories...your body will think you are starving, but I am sure I could lose another three or four pounds...after all, I did weigh that much last year! So maybe I too will stop counting the exercise calories ... I walk every day without fail, run two or three times a week .. I hate doing exercises on the floor...I lie there thinking ..why on earth am I lying on the floor and just get up...but I am thinking of getting my hula hoop out again and whittling those calories away and....I found my skipping rope the other day! I have always found skipping very hard work but did five sets of 20 jumps so if I could add Hooping and Skipping to the mix surely that would work! I even started jumping when I was washing up today...husband said what are you doing....I said...Jumping....he said ok....

Good to hear you are recovering well Californiagirl .... slowly but surely will get you back to full health! :flowerforyou:

I dye my hair too ..... different shades of blonde...Natural Honey Blonde, Dark Golden Blonde..those kind of shades....... I am tempted by a can of pink spray I saw in Superdrug...just a little strand maybe..it washes out apparently. I keep my hair at shoulder length or longer too...... I always said as a young woman that I hated to see older women with long hair trying to look young....Haha..I no longer think that and to be honest I think many ladies we see on TV who are older let their hair grow...moreso than in the past.......I had very long hair as a teenager and beyond, and have had very short hair too.....now I am happy with it longer...

Always a fan of peanut butter ( though not spooned out of the jar, rather spread on toast ( I have just discovered the delicious Nutella..chocolate hazelnut spread...... I will have to resist the spoon in the jar in the middle of the night...but it is good for a hit of chocolate spread on crispbreads or crackers.......

    Love to all......

    Jump Jump...hoop hoop :ohwell:

Calories: To give you support for calorie counting, go to your food diary and look at recipes. You can make your own recipes, count the calories and then simply enough add it to your log.

Exercise: Breaking up exercise into 10 minute segments throughout the day has shown to have the same beneficial effects as doing it all at once. I liked the idea of jumping for 10 min actually! And with a hula hoop swirling for 10 min!! I did 2 hours at the gym and it was my first real workout! I don't like sweating, running, going up hills or feeling my heart beat hard. Did it anyways on a stationary bike to music - loved it!! Also did some lifting with free weights and crunches. Feels good to have sore muscles. I don't mind that.

LOVE FOOD: Peanut Butter, Nutella or Biscotti creme - I cannot bring into the house. It is a BIG FAT LIE when I tell myself I can buy it and portion control. NOT! However, I really can control my eating I know that. For example, when I went on my one and only cruise for 12 nights in 2010, they said the average weight gain is 14 lbs. I lost 2 lbs. I learned that I need to know that I can eat any time I want, as much or as little as I want, and if something doesn't appeal to me, I don't have to finish it. I learned that being active as in sightseeing is a lot more fun to me than I realize and I don't have to settle into my rocking chair any time soon. I *just* am getting old and it is better than the alternative. (My mom died from smoking at 66).

HAIRSTYLES: I got a angled bob and it is dramatic. I am getting used to it and not likely to worry so much about trying to look young. I feel more modern and less conservative and that is who I want to be. I don't like feeling other people are defining my role. I LOVE THE IDEA OF A STREAK OF PINK!!!! LOVE It!!!

First, I want to give you support. CALORIE COUNTING: You can create your recipe with its calories here on MFP in the food diary. Label it, then any time you make it again, you won't have to figure out the calories. Nifty?

if you can break it up into 10 min segments, and do that 3x a day you will get 30 min done, and 6x a day would give you an hour and so on.

That said, today I don't know what has happened, but I am driven now to lose weight. I just want to make it happen so bad. I just can't accept that everything I have been doing these past 3 years has not had me lose the weight I need to and keep it off. So like a MadWoman I went at it hard and long at the gym today. I sweated, and can't wait to tell my husband that I SWEATED! I never work out hard like that, ever! I am a slow burn, and afterburn, and endurance walker. So I spent 2 hours really pushing it at the gym, really pushing it. And that my friends, is how I learned how to do a *workout*. .

Good evening to all my new friends. I hope you each have had a fantastic Monday.
Hair: I decided to try the natural route - gray, but then went Nope, that is not for me. I have worn my hair frosted a lot during my lifetime so I have it frosted again. I get it done professionally about every 4-5 weeks. Larry has always liked it frosted so he is happy.

I am still really struggling to get off my fat bottom and start walking. I must get a handle on this or the eating less isn't going to do much good.
But I realize just wishing it isn't going to do it. A gym is not an option as the closest one is 45 miles ( one way) from us. So that isn't going to happen. But our road is right out side our front door. No excuse.

Are any of you watching the basketball final game tonight? I am for Kentucky mainly b/c they beat Kansas State and Wichita State - both Kansas schools. So we will look better if they win.

I love college football and basketball. Pro sports I am not into as much especially not pro basketball.

The outside world is beginning to look like spring here in Belpre, KS I am so ready. But we need rain, a good soaking rain but it is not in the forecast.

You will find that I am very aware of our water level. As farmers it is very dire to our crops. We do some irrigating but not totally.

Well it is about time for the game.
I might be back to chat later!

    Nutella

    I dare NOT buy it.

I was studying in Spain in 1969-70.

That's where I and my friends discovered Nutella. It was called Nacilla.
O M G We would eat that stuff with a spoon right out of the jar.

Spaniards have a delightful breakfast treat which we cheerfully adopted: Bread and chocolate.
Yes ladies. You get a fresh loaf of crispy white bread, (pan de leche, literally, milk bread) and a bar of chocolate.. (Hershey's if
we couldn't find anything better, Lindt if we were feeling rich). Break off a piece of bread, put a hunk of chocolate on top.. munch.

I guess it's the poor person's version of a chocolate croissant.

Then there is that other delicious Spanish treat: Churros y chocolate.

Long fried doughnuts sprinkled with cinnamon sugar and eaten with a cup of THICK, hot chocolate.

Oh geez, I think my blood sugar just went up thinking about it.

Funny thing. I lost about 15 pounds that year. We walked miles and miles to school and back, to town...

I have never had nutella.... and my scale is suggesting that's a *very* good thing :grumble:

There is a guy on the main forum who is doing a '30 DAY GELATO | ICE CREAM CLEANSE DIET' LOL. I'm not sure exactly what his point is... other than maybe to poke fun at the 30 day juice/shake/whatever diets or perhaps to remind us that this is not a 'diet' but a lifestyle change that allows us to eat any food we want in moderation.

I've been foolish enough to read some of the posts. So when I was setting up my meals for today, darned if I didn't put in a FULL 1/2 cup (101 grams) serving of Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Therapy. I planned it, fit it in, measured every single gram... and enjoyed the heck out of it. And you know what? It satisfied me. I'm not craving anything right now.. in fact I might skip the last snack that I had planned. I think there's a message for me somewhere in that...... hopefully it isn't that I need to have ice cream every day

On the downside, my fitbit is frowning at me. It can just get over it today :ohwell:

I think I'm firing up my Kindle & shutting down the computer for the night. Type with you tomorrow!

out for the day with a group of friends I used to work with today....... a walk round a park and then lunch...I don't think the walk will compensate for the lunch - it will be a gentle chatty stroll rather than a workout! But still better than nothing.......So I got up a bit earlier and did 10 minutes of stationary stepping....1600 steps. Hopefully I will add a few more ten minute bursts later in the day.

Breakfast was cereal, milk and raspberries.

    Feeling good!

    Hi everyone!

It's supposed to be high 70's today, and all sorts of Spring flowers are starting to bloom. Janet, the house cleaner who comes every three weeks and talks nonstop on her cell phone while she works, is coming today to get the house ready for all the company we have arriving for the Memorial on Sunday. (Think I told you that Clyde's daughter died unexpectedly last month) There will be family here from Thursday through next Wednesday. We're leaving on Sunday, the 20th for Europe, but somehow, I'll "make it work" as Tim Gunn says!

Good morning to everybody :) I didn't go down in weight today after my 2+ hours at the gym. Just want to say you can lose weight by watching your diet only. Exercise and lifting is needed for strength, flexibility, endurance, stamina and to find everything else you do in life easier and better. Exercise alone won't do it either. Watching the calories is necessary if you eat when you are NOT hungry, which I do because I can.

I meet with a trainer at the gym today for orientation to the machines. I will keep working on getting more active. Enjoy the process and journey!

Good afternoon! A beautiful spring day in Belpre. I just hope the wind does not pick up.

Thought I would share about our "business" that we have. As I have shared we are farmers. But, also we sell farm seed such as corn, soybean, milo, & etc. This is a year-round job. Besides Larry, his brother and our youngest son work with us.

This time of the year we are delivering the corn seed as it planting time. This type of corn is used for feed for animals such as chickens, cattle and hogs. Many farmers in the is area have irrigation systems, but we still need the "free" rain to make it work. Also, there are any acres that do not have irrigation.

It becomes very busy for the guys. Farmers do not keep hours so consequently, we might be delivering very early in the morning or late in the evening. Also some of the customers come here to pick it up. Which ever works best for them.

We are very dry now so all of us are wanting a good rain. It will make for a better seed bed which of course we want. As I said earlier the weather is tremendously important to us. It plays a very big part as to whether we have a profitable year or not - and as you know it is all out of our control.

I love sharing our life with others so please feel free to ask any questions.

Until this year I had been doing all of the bookkeeping. But, I am in the process of teaching our DIL. I am thrilled that she is willing to do it and wants to do it.

i need to inventory our big freezer as we are getting a beef butchered next week So I better get up and get busy.

    Talk later!

    Hi all,

Reba I know what you mean when you say you need rain. I am not a farmer as you, but us here in California are in a drought and our farmers are suffering. We have had some storms off and on end of March, but now we are in the high 80's where I live.

Today is one of my best friends bday. She lost her daughter in Dec and has had a rough time of it. So my other best friend and I are meeting up a little later, getting her some flowers and going over to visit. We are taking her out to lunch on Friday. After we go visit, my friend and I plan on taking a walk. I am so excited to be able to get outside and walk with no leg pain! New hip is wonderful. 5 weeks ago today. One more week then I see the Doc and see if some of the hip precautions can be lessened. I will be careful still.

Hope you all are having a wonderful day.

Hi all of you bright and cheery ladies!

Today is "hump" day. An idea - why don't we share 1 hump that we have navigated. It doesn't necessarily have to deal with food or MFP

My hump - I don't know if I have totally navigated it yet, but doing so much better, is planning meals. I was doing this long before MFP. I find I do so much better when I sit down and plan meals a week at a time. So that is on my Daily Routine Spreadsheet for Fridays - to plan a weeks worth of meals.

I have purchased a software package that stores all of my recipes, it has a meal planning tab and then a grocery list tab. I love it and it truly helps me to plan.

    What is your Hump?

One of my goals is not to eat after 8:30.
    Two reasons this is difficult:
1.) My husband will be coming in later and later to eat dinner. Sometimes not until 10:00. But, I am fixing our dinner earlier for me, then just reheating for him. He is fine with that as he wants me to lose this weight.
2.) I am a night grazer. IF I would just go to bed when Larry does it would be fine, but I think I want to stay up - I am sure the reason - so I can eat!! And last night I did graze. I was OK calorie wise, but I was not OK discipline wise. I would appreciate any ideas that you might have for this very old undisciplined, REBELLIOUS person!!

Hi everyone! Hey RM, I want to eat when I want to eat so can really relate to your situation when hub is on a different schedule. I do eat when I want to eat, and if possible eat a salad with hub, and a low cal after dinner snack with him.

Today is my big day at the gym and will head out in just a little bit. I am heading off an upset with my Dad. Long story short is he has dementia and without going into the upset too much, he makes up stories against my son with his separated wife and demands that I not protect him. He emailed and asked me to visit. I recently got a letter from him detailing the worst stuff. I declined the invitation. Trying now to avoid dwelling on it, not having much luck with that. Thought the gym will help me get my mind off it.

    Have a good day ladies!

I think one of my humps is the evening snacking too........ I usually save a few calories to allow me a little something later in the evening.

This evening...it is now 8.20pm....... I have 7 calories left! This is because I am trying not to eat/log my exercise calories. So today I have walked as always, run 2 miles and done 100 jumps....... my pedometer is telling me I have done over 16,000 steps so if I don't eat those calories I will surely lose weight!!!!!!! I am thinking maybe I could eat about another 100 cals but that is not the plan now...but it is tough sticking to 1200 ....... and I have to stay up late tonight to watch Castle!

    What a dilemma!:noway:

The only way I know to get around the grazing is to plan a specific food and amount that fits into your day's totals. Something filling that lasts a long time like a 100 calorie popcorn pack, or unexciting crackers with a wedge of laughing cow cheese.
Definitely not something that you will binge on...

The other day when I went to the dentist, I was thumbing through a copy of SELF magazine in the waiting room.
I would, personally NOT subscribe to this publication because the pages and pages of young, slender models in skin-tight
workout garb and the sometimes (to me) silly health and beauty suggestions make me snort.

    However.

There were some tasty looking, fairly straight-forward recipes, so I found their page online.
I haven't tried any of these yet, but I'll probably give some of them a shot after our trip.

    1. What is a 300 mile challenge?
    2. Chicken dogs, when frozen, sliced thin, and baked until dry, make great dog training treats. I am not sure they count as food.
    3. Aging. I like getting older. There are so many more good looking women every day. (Think about it. It is not just because of population increase. )

Oh. Ten miles per day is at least one hour per day. Never in my life have I had a month to dedicate just to that. Too many responsibilities.

How did you insert a clickable link? It must be a markup like making words bold {b} this is bold {/b}, replace the curly brackets with square brackets

    ---edit ---
nevermind. I found that MFP will disallow links to outside locations and only recognizes links to MFP forums, like this

We power washed and cleaned the deck, and outdoor table and chairs, plus the garden room. Now we can sit outside and visit with Clyde's sister and BIL before the rest of the family arrives for the Memorial. Lovely view of the lake...
