Maya: I just finished workout 3 and every time I finish a workout I just want to lay out and wait for someone to come scrape me off the ground.
Sunshine: Enjoy your week off! I know your body will really appreciate the rest.

I lost .8 lbs this week which means I've lost a grand total of 4.6 lbs since May 11! I'm really excited about the fact that I've finally gotten my calories and workouts aligned and I can finally start seeing results. I'm not expecting in these last two weeks before bikinigeddon that I'll have a perfect body. It would be nice but I'm not pinning my hopes on it. I do know that after one week of stage 7 I am seeing some positive progress in my stomach. The layer of fat over my ribs is going away and the muffin top is being peeled back. So while I may not be fitness competition or swimsuit model perfect I think I will be able to enjoy where my body is and actually wear a bikini without feeling self conscious which was my ultimate goal. The end ground is in sight and after all my lamenting and worrying and time spent being discouraged I am over the moon at how everything seems to be coming together. Like I said I'm not thinking that I'll have the perfect abs in time for bikinigeddon but the idea of shedding the shame and self consciousness because I DID THE WORK is insane. I didn't sit around for another summer sad that my body wasn't what I wanted it to be. I made a decision in MARCH to make my body better and I'm actually sticking with it. To be perfectly honest guys working out has changed so much more than my body. I've realized that if I can make and stick with the decision to change what I look like physically I can change anything about my life. Changing your body isn't some being sweeping change that you can accomplish in two days. It's a series of small decisions everyday over a long period of time. It's about breaking big goals down to their smallest and most manageable parts.Knowing this and actually doing it in my own life is just.......wow. It's given me the courage to want to do so much more for myself; demand more for myself. I will forever be grateful that I started this journey.

I'm going to do two rounds of stage 7 which means I'll wrap this stage up the week after bikinigeddon. I'll do stage 4 after that and then most likely another round of stage 7 then I'll do stage 5 and one more round of stage 7. After that I'll need to find another program. I really like Alwyn Cosgrove's workouts so I'll probably stick to New Rules. Supercharged maybe?

Has lifting changed more than just your body too? What are your plans after you complete New Rules?

I did workout 7.4 today, i was still sore from thursday 7.3... so far 7.3 has been my favorite. for some reason i thought stage 7 had 7 workouts lol, till I realized it's only 6 so yay! Im 2 workouts from finishing it. I will most definitely go for a second round and then head back to stage 4,5 will think about 6 and finally 7. while I love SL5x5 i think i wanna finish NROL4W. I wish I could say i've started to melt fat, but i havent, my mid section is about the same, and i'm humbling myself and accepting that i might not have the genetics for abs as some other people. i will hope some day i will have a flat tummy, but is causing me to not enjoy the rest of my gains in strenght, endurance, etc. so for now i enjoy my new strenght.

I've been too tired for cardio this week, so i rather not do it than have bad form and it paid off. im back to barbell backsquats... empty bar but olympic bar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so yeah, i guess t25 and/or insanity dont agree with my knees.

Like you @red... im going to enjoy this summer, bikini and all, coz i did work hard. ive been at this journey since january and not stopping any time soon.

Like you, excercising, lifting and starting with insanity has changed my life incredibly. I did practise sports before, so i knew the benefits, I just let my life get in the way and got lazy, i found more excuses than "reasons" to workout and take care of my body, for years. bad diet, sedentary habits, excuses, brought me to january this year when i almost freaked out thinking ive gotten to 139lbs, being 5feet tall...

    First with Insanity...
I learnt that i can make time for important things in my life, my health it's important... so rigth now i find time to fit whtever else AFTER i have done my workouts.
I learnt that u dont need to have "everything in order" and "stars aligned" to start doing something. I just went for it, with the videos in my laptop, no volume, no cable to connect laptop to tv, no good crossfit shoes, no HRM, no cute workout clothes. everything came after coz i needed it to "continue".
I learnt that it's ok to splurge on yourself and be selfish with your own time, thats major for me, i would always prefer to give my time and my all to my family, friends, whoever i was dating, not anymore...
I learnt that nutrition is 90% of fitness, and water is important, and NOT starving myself is the beginning of the game.
And I also learnt that the scale lies and one day u wake up and see a new muscle or u can see ur ribs, and ur body changes in new amazing ways...

And then I started lifting, and I realized that I do like cardio too, as long as it's not boring or hurts my knee lol.
    So with lifting...
    I learnt that i'm badass!
I learnt to humble myself when I couldn't lift a certain weight, so in my life I learnt to ask for help and admit when something is beyond my capacity.
I learnt that I looooooooooooove pushing myself to new limits and challenge myself from old me (and last workout weight) and nothing stops me. So I'm taking that, along with my newly found "selfishness" and I'm going back to school.
I learnt that everything takes time and you gotta start from low weights, and make slow steady improvements...everything worth in life takes time, healing injuries or broken hearts, take time, and time passes by really quick so you better make everything and every day count while healing.
I learnt that I eat because i love my body, and I want to feed it to be healthy and do better in my workouts, and yeah im nuts, i talk to myself when im hungry "im sorry body, i know you are hungry, we cant have that donut, we can wait half an hour for that lunch break and yummy tilapia i brought for lunch... enjoy some hot water, you will feel better lol"
I learnt that i can push my body to new limits, and actually I havent found my limit, 6 months ago I wouldnt even dream of a 105lbs deadlift!! so if my body can handle all that, rest and keep going, there's nothing ever again stopping me from nothing in life.
I learnt that if I can face that bar and weights and lift heavy, I can face everything in life.
and finally I learnt that we can all inspire someone with our actions, more than with our words and you can quickly realize when someone is full of excuses or full of drive... and all of you ladies are full of drive, and amazing support!

ps...sorry for the LONG post, got inspired lol

Hi ladies. I have been gone for a long time for a couple reasons. My internet stopped working. It is now intermittent at best. Also I babysat a very active adorable 5 year old for a couple weeks while mom and dad took vacation and its been 19 yrs since I had my own 5 yr old running around. I thought I would still find time to lift, not only did I not lift but I needed a week to bounce back. lol I can honestly say I got a lot of exercise during that time though. I have started stage 2 and wow, wow, wow. It looked so easy on paper! So Not true. Sunshine I saw your stage 2 progress. AMAZING!!! I am catching up on reading how everyone is doing and it keeps me going. Thanks for all the inspiration. Feels great to get back to it!

    congrats everyone on good progress!
sorry I have been away in a long time!

    red - amazing progress
Both red & maya - well said!! It is truly about what all we learned, how much we improved overall.

sunshine - I told you already!! Serious respect!! Those are great numbers!!
My folks are visiting me for this month, so I have been lifting/running when I can. Working out to 3-4 days a week instead of consistent 3X lifting and 2X running. It is still better than nothing at all so I will take it. I just wish to maintain my weight and strength I have gained during this period of time since I am always out and about and on the move till mid July.

I finished 5th workout in Stage 7. The lunges and squats - 4 sets of 15 are killing me!! I am finally getting better at push ups and I tried full push ups for the first time ever today - I did not get full range of motion, but I am proud of moving away from knee /incline push ups finally!!

Will catch up and peek in here when I can - Keep up the great progress!! :)

    Hi ladies,
this stage 7 is such a killer. i can honestly say that it's taking all my energies. I'm forcing myself to lifting 3x a week but damn, I'm exhausted the other days, so exhausted that I dread going for the workouts and while I'm doing them im hating them every minute... yeah im talking to you lunges and step ups. More than once ive felt tempted to just ignore them and not do them, but im already modifying this program as it is, so i suck it up and do them. did workout 5 last night, yay! only 1 more to go. i will take the weekend off because i have baby cousin bday and Im the decoration team lol. and i will definitely repeat the 6 workouts (i know, im a masochist lol) and then continue with the rest of the stages

nsv today, woke up, looked at my mirror (morning belly check) and almost NO belly!!!!!! that alone woke me up lol

Red, bikinigeddon approaches and you're gonna be ready! That's so great that you found your best calorie-exercise mix, too.

Maya, I am with you, I was saying the other day this workout thing is total discipline, it def takes a lot.

Mnsmov- thanks friend, and congrats on the pushups.

Slammed 3A today and even got the BWM. Time was 3:45, not too too embarrassing. I have to say my jumps were more like hops and I took quick breathing breaks after the non jumping lunges and in between the squat jumps. Never mind this bunny is gonna keep on going.

Couple proud moments: 26# one armed dumbbell snatch, 80# bent over barbell row, 60# dumbbell incline press (got 10 but for some reason could not even budge 35# dumbbells, so not sure how to progress), 90 sec planks.

Really dislike the reverse wood chop I can't get the motion right. Dumbbell Romanian dead lift is my enemy, right lower back still having some pain so had to go lighter.

maya - Curious - what changes have you made for stg 7? I see that I have to lower my weights considerably for the 4X15 sets.
So I have been doing only the first 1-2 workouts of 6-8 with greater weights and decreasing others.

So far, PR on many - Hope they turn into visible results at least, if not on the scale ;)
    Squats - highest 105lb
    DL - 105lb
    Row - 110lb
Bench Press 55lb - All these so far in workouts 1-5 first sets of 6 reps.

Others like step ups or lunges, max @ 50 (lowest being just the bar @ 45lb)
Romanian DL @ 75 highest.yday and the back of my legs are so stiff and sore today! :P

I'm baaaaaccccckkkkkk. I haven't really been posting but I have been working out. I finished workout 5 tonight and I'm like you guys. I'm kind of over it. I dread doing it and while I'm doing it I want it to be over. As a matter of fact I stopped taking the rest breaks in between the super sets. I just go straight through all of them. The only breaks I take are when I'm changing the weights on my bar. Of course the work outs probably would go a lot faster if I wasn't constantly stopping to check myself out in the mirror. I'm down half an inch in my waist since I started stage 7. Yes I am officially a 27 inch waist. Hopefully I can keep my same progress and be down to 26.75 next week for bikinigeddon. I'm so glad that I haven't given up because my body is still making amazing changes and I love waking up every day and finding out how my body has changed. Now that I can stop obsessing over my stomach because it's doing what it's supposed to do I've noticed that my legs are doing some sexy things. Me like sexy things.

Bikinigeddon is Saturday and I checked the mirror this morning to see how much back fat I was going to be covering this weekend. It's gone yall.....GONE!!! I'm happy dancing all over the place. Oh and I finished stage 7 which is the first stage I've finished completely since I started new rules.

hey ladies, im also back! have had a couple busy days, but i've still been fitting my workouts. so i finished stage 7! whaaaaat! i did it. and im crazy, so im on round 2 now! workout 7.2.1 down! knee almost 100% recovered, im back to squatting with olympic bar! yay!

@msn, sorry i didnt answer earlier. unfortunately i had lowered my weights due to my knee injury, and since i was only coming from stage 1&2, i didnt have huge numbers. so i was basically on most of the same numbers as i finished stage 2. from someone coming from stages 1-6 i bet this is such a humbling experience.

this stage is the hardest, mental battle but oh such results, such a high when im finished each workout (right before almost passing out lol) ive upped the weights i lift little by little but making progress.

@red, im like u, im loving myself in front of the mirror, i cant believe the changes this stage have brought to my body. might be the whole process from stages 1&2 as well, but the biggest changes are showing now. im finishing this second round of stage 7 and off to stage 4....

This is great! I'm curious on the stage 7 mental battle.....sounds intimidating - so glad you made it! Congrats on all your gains!

Finishing stage 3 over the next week, finally got used to it. Some exercises there are really taxing ^me but others are like boom, I got this! Don't think I'll rest between stage 3 and 4 since I had a rest between 2 and 3. Excited to be moving forward, I think I may have finally found a good cals and food combo for this program - it's taken a while to iron that out. Feeling strong and my arms are looking great, between the HRT and lifting I may have eliminated the risk of batwing. LOL

sunshine: So I totally forgot to take pics when I was on the beach. I'll get them next time I go. Stage 7 is rough. It's non stop. The rest breaks are literally a joy. 30 seconds is enough time to pick up the next set of weights you're using.
Maya: I know right! The changes that stage 7 brings to your body are unbelievable but it is a fight to get all 4 sets done. It's totally worth it in the end though.
Bikinigeddon has come and gone. I laid on the beach in my bikini and got the best tan. And no one looked at me. No one walked up to me to ask for my measurements and weight. No one screamed at me that I can't wear a bikini on their beach without a six pack. No judge walked up to me to tell me where I'd placed in the bikini competition. No one looked at me. I enjoyed it. I enjoyed every second of facing my fear and my own self consciousness. I can't wait to go back to the beach next month. I can't wait to see what my body looks like next month.

this thread seems to be quiet now :( i have been super busy, no time to check in.
im now fighting a flu so had to ease up on my last workout... only 2 to go to finish stage 7 round 2... yay!
im starting stage 4 right after...
congrats @red with ur success at the beach :)

    how is everyone doing?

Maya: I hope you're feeling better! The flu sucks especially when you get it in the summer.

I've only got 2 workouts left until I finish stage 7 round 2 as well. I took a mental health break after I finished round one because stage 7 can take a lot out of you. Now of course I'm so exercise obsessed at this point that I couldn't take a real break and just do nothing. I ran three times a week and enjoyed it so much that I kept doing it. So I've been lifting three times a week and running 2-3 times. My knee is starting to hurt though so I might switch over to yoga for a bit in place of the runs. In huge and important news I have reached my first goal weight! I am officially 135 lbs even. I've officially lost six pounds! I'm so proud of myself for doing it you'd think I'd lost 25 pounds. But these 6 pounds have made a huge difference in how my body looks. I'm also according to the measurements that I've taken down 4% body fat. I started at about 31% and I'm at 27% now. The new goal now is to get down to 22-25% body fat which will give me 2 pack abs and more visible muscle definition all over. I'm not really interested in having a 6 pack. I like my curves and from what I can see usually when the 6 pack comes the curves go. 22-25% gives me the best of both worlds. Happy lifting this week ladies!

Red congrats on those great results you've gotta feel GREAT!

Maya glad you're feeling better, heard a bunch of people caught that summer bug.

Thinking lately about what's next. Since my lower back is constantly hurting.

@maya Hope you feel better soon!

@red CONGRATS!! Thats wonderful. Glad its working for you. :)

@sunshine - I see you are doing 4B - I started stage 4 today. After the hiatus. Hope allz well with you.
You might wanna try and correct our form a bit more or reduce the weight on the bar until your lower back issues go away.
Increasing too soon might cause this too.

I stayed away from lifting for almost a month. Life happened. My parents visited me from India and while being busy taking care of them, I did not have enough time or gas left in me to continue my lifting workouts. So I took it light, just ran when I can and played outside a lot.
Maintained my inches from where I left off.
Now, starting off again with Stage 4 from today. Planning to do stage 7 round 2 after this.
Hope some more changes in me will be seen by the end of these 2 stages.

    I started slow,
    but here's how today went

    4A 1
    FSPP 45*3*8
    Step Ups 45*3*8
One point row 12DB *3 *8 (I did 6sets in total, 3 on each side. Not sure if that's correct)
    Lunges 45*3*8
Push Ups - Incline, but felt better with my ROM
Plank - just held 50s and then switched to 2 1 min each side planks. I was completely shaking by the time I was done :)
Wood Choppers 50*3*8 (Again, I did 3 on each side)

mnsmov: I love that even though you stopped lifting you maintained the progress that you had made. Welcome back!
Sunshine: take some time to get yourself together if you need to! The lifting will be here when you're ready to get started again.

I'm doing 3 days of yoga this week and three days of lifting. I got a little sick of runs and my knee was starting to hurt so I'm going to take some time to let my body heal. Plus I've always wanted to improve my flexibility and get back to the looseness that I had when I was dancing regularly. I've dipped down into the 134's and hopefully yoga will help me keep this downward trend the way running did.

Mns glad you're back in it and out of town guests have left you free! Looks like you picked up right where you left off, very encouraging. I have already backed off my PR with dead lifts - I had gotten 125lb at the end of stage 2, currently doing a max of 115 but yesterday found my back curled a bit so probably have to drop back down to 110 or 105 and build strength.

Red I love yoga! So healing, mentally, physically. Jealous of your 134 status - feels like a ways away for ^me.

Good to know you can bounce back - now I'm thinking of finishing For Women, then doing a 4 week cardio shred, then starting a another weight training regimen. Either supercharged or For Life!

I would love to start up again! I started this program in January but stopped before completing stage one. I got a little discouraged because I kept getting hurt.the tendonitis in my forearms and pain in my shoulder were too much. I think I bumped up the weights too fast.
For the past 30 days I've been eating 1500-1700 ish calories and walking about 10,000-15,000 steps a day. I'm still feeling a little sore in the joints but I figured if I start off light and gradually go to heavy I can get my body conditioned to it.
I love reading all of your posts and I feel so inspired to jump back in! Yay!
    Thank you all for sharing!

    Thank you ladies! :)

skip2mylu - welcome! We all have been updating this thread with success, our troubles and trying to find a balance between eating for lifting - not too little, or too much - Please feel free to chime in and restart your workouts!!

I did workout 4B1 today. Ran yesterday, and will continue to run through this stage. So I am planning to skip the interval workouts at the end of B workouts. That just keeps each work out under 40 minutes for me and works well.

Running on my non lifting days used to tire me completely before. Since I returned now, I am stretching at the end of each workout and running a bit slower than usual, just keeping the mileage goal. I seem ok so far. Once I increase weights, I will see how this works out.

I love running, so I dont want to switch to HIIT as yet - may b in winter when I cannot run outside :)

    Here's 4B - starting small :)

    Deficit DL 75lb*3*8
Bulgarian Split Squat 50*3*8 - Can definitely increase weight next time
    Lat Pulldown 80*3*8
Rear lunges with 10lb DB *3*8
Snatch 10lb * 3* 8 - but this felt weird. I might consider substituting this one with something else next time
Crunches on the ball - replaced with planks 45s*3
    Reverse crunch 15*3
    Dumbbell side bend 15DB*15*3

    Happy workouts everyone!

Thanks so much for the welcome! ;-) my first day stage one workout A was Tuesday night. I basically used 5 and 10 lb weights to start off... All I have to say is OUCH!!!! Thankfully so joint or tendon pain but yesterday and today I have a serious case of DOMS. Nothing Motrin won't help, though. I'm glad I didn't jump into heavier weights right away! Workout B is waiting till Friday.

I love that you are running! I would love to build up to that someday but for now I'm happy walking! I love using my fitbit. It makes me happy to see my steps go up. ;-)

oh hi ladies and hi newcomers... im so glad that we are in this journey. im super excited to see all your numbers, weights and lifting...
from my side, better from the flu, i really couldnt keep myself so i still did what i could while i was sick hehe. im addicted to lifting.
so im 3 workouts away from finishing stage 4, after 2 rounds of stage 7. my body has changed soooooooo much with stage 7 and stage 4, i love love love it. my belly is not where it should be but it's looking good. i havent broken many PRs but im focusing in my form, keeping my knees healthy and losing weight steadly.

i've kept on losing weight as well, im officially 12lbs down and last tuesday i celebrated my 6 months mark! who would have thought?!

so on my non lifting days ive started Strong Curves, since the first 4 weeks are mostly body weight. ive also discovered i love doing cardio in my building stairs.. i live in a 5th floor so those 5 flights of stairs are my free private gym now lmao. good hiit=good burn

once im done with my stage 4 next week, i will give it a try at stage 5 but most probably i will be doing StrongLifts5x5 + StrongCurves in the same days and some cardio or hiit on my rest days.

when i have a time i will upload my progress pic. i think it's very motivational to the new lifters and hopefully will encourage the other ladies to upload their progress pics as well :)

Hey Maya - so great that youre meeting your weight and fitness goals! Congrats! I'm starting to get nervous about stage 7!

Welcome newcomers, you're gonna love it!

I've got 2 more workouts to finish stage 4. Feeling pretty good, lost 1/2 inch off my waist and looking smoother and stronger. My SIL was here this week who I haven't seen in a year she asked if I had lost a lot of weight. I said no just heavy lifting. So, nice NSV.

Strength gains have been prolific, getting 70 # push presses, 115# DL's, 70# split squats. Got a couple of 2 min planks the other day. Felt great yesterday. Workout takes ^me a full 90 min including a 10 minute mile run warm up. Mns - how are you getting out of there in only 40 min? Wow! I do 4 sets of the first two exercises, then 3 of the others. With the weights ive been lifting i definitely take a reasonable rest between sets - heart is always pounding. Ive never timed it, though. I just wait till i can breathe easily and it feels like my heart rate is back down. The crunches, planks, prone cobras feel like they take forever andi wonder how much benefit is really there.

@maya : That's fantastic!! Your results are so impressive!! Glad its working out for you :) I struggle more with consistent eating than consistent workout. How have you been deciding about your intake?

@sunshine : I concentrate on the big workouts. Do 5 minutes cardio in the beginning and don;t count it in my lifting. I workout before lunchtime @ work/office gym so I want to get in and out quick. Since I run on the non lifting days, I don't fo HIIT afterwards. Have been focusing on just the lifts and between supersets, I take 60s rest. With each exercise in the superset, I try and take less than a minute rest. may b like 45s or as long as I can get my breathing under control.
This usually works out to be 40 mins for me.

I feel that I find myself really tired and worn out if I workout harder or longer. That is my limitation, but I am working with it for now.

I really think I'm going to like this. How soon did you all start to see results?
