Finished Week 7 Day 3 on Sunday, went well, my pace was good, I felt a bit sluggish around the half way point, I chalk this up to not having any fuel in me (food) . Starting Week 8D1 this evening, after work assuming there isn't any rain.
If there is I will start it tomorrow morning. Will be sure to fuel up before hand. With graduation in sight, I do have a 5k planned but not until December, should I plan one for end of the month /November, or go right into the 10k training program? thoughts? I am interested in getting an "official" time.0 -
Thanks for the nice comments everyone. I made a few mistakes at my first race. I got caught up in running an 8:30 pace the first mile and kind of went with it even though I knew I couldn't maintain it. I faded badly on the last mile.
The other thing I didn't do was try to run at the faster pace at least once in the weeks building up to the race. I was pretty beat afterwards.0 -
@jsandie76 Great work. You're really closing in on completing it. If I don't have my headphones I'm doomed
@Calliope610 That sounds like fun. I was passed by a gentleman I dubbed "skinny Walter Cronkite" in the last mile and he became my instant hero. He just kept chugging at the same pace and passed a few others too. He placed in the 60 and older category at the awards ceremony.
@TowsonChuck I'd head right into the 10K program and run you're 5k if there aren't any available till then. The 10K training should make you're 5k seem easier. I'm going to start the 5 to 10 k this week. I'm going to sign up for a Turkey Trot in November too. Maybe they have one of those in you're area too. I find races at this website:

I'm supposed to do W8D1 this evening after work, but it is pouring down rain. I don't have access to a treadmill. Sigh. Forecast says it is going to rain through Thursday. This really cramps my plans!0
-
@mamagab92 , I'd say a treadmill actually hurts you, yeah you can do it and it works. But you don't want to do it really. If you've been running outdoors, stay with it, a treadmill is super easy and doesn't give you the same challenge as running outdoors.
@upsaluki Good Idea. I know there are some local Halloween Runs, and Turkey Trot. A Turkey Trot would be a nice motivation to keep the pounds down that week. I am going to go right into to the 10k program, after a week "off" (meaning I am going to run a few times at the 5k distance, while doing some other cardio as well)
CHECKIN:
W8D1 DONE! 28 minutes of running non-stop. Ran 2.85 miles in the 28 minute run, Pace 9:49/mile. Not trying to push, just letting my body move at a pace that feels comfortable. Feeling Good. Big steps since the struggles of jogging 60 seconds at a clip in week 1.

This is my first post on this thread, but I'll definitely be coming back
I've been using the 5K101 podcast rather than the actual C25K but the concept is the same. Today I ran W8D2 so 30 minutes in a row. Holy Cow! I'm honestly in a bit of shock. When I started 11 weeks ago (yeah, I had to repeat a couple of the weeks), I couldn't run 45 seconds in a row. The fact that I ran 30 minutes today at an average of 8:02 per kilometer puts me over the moon!
My first race is the second Saturday in November. I can't wait!0 -

W7D1 smashed! This running *kitten* is getting easier and easier!! Running at a slow 3.5-3.7mph on the treadmill, but I can run for 40-50min now NO PROBLEM. The speed will increase with time, so I'm not worried at all.0
-
I completed my week 9 day 3 run for C25K. Covered 2.77 miles in the 30 minutes. Heading right on to the 5 to 10K plan on the Run Double app This Thursday. Hard to think that I'll be up to running an hour in six more weeks. Can't wait for it.
@mamaGab92 I know what you're saying. I was rained out yesterday and went for a morning run to beat today's rain.
@TowsonChuck That's a pretty good pace. I only managed a 10:51 pace in my final thirty minute run today.
@jessiruthica Great work. I've always wondered how the podcasts work. If I don't listen to music, I usually do a book on tape.0 -
Wow Way to go all of you. I started running and loved it.. but some how stopped and didnt find the motivation to get back into it.. THANK YOU for giving me that motivation.. Tonight its time for W1D1 again... Im Looking for friends to chat with Add me if you like!0

W7D1 was done yesterday. 2.5 miles of running in 28 minutes (about 11 min/mile)0

@nutmegzz Let us know how you did, and welcome to the group. Feel free to add me.0

Hi, I am new to MFP and C25K program. I just finished W1D3 yesterday and feel like I should repeat at least one day from week 1. The last run I tried to be a little bit faster (due to the amount of weight I have to lose not an easy task ) and had a very hard time to finish. Despite all of this 'fast running' I only covered 1.73 miles including warm up and cooling down.
I wonder what your experience is, especially those of you who are carrying way more weight than the majority here.
Any advice is very appreciated.
Thank you!

Don't try to go faster. You should be running at a conversational pace (you should be able to talk while you are running.) When you complete the program, you will be able to run for 30 minutes straight. You can work on speed and distance once you build your running base.
As the amount of time you are running increases, you might even have to slow down more.
Great job getting started and welcome to the group!

I am just starting week two, and my week one distances were similar to uYours (1.72-1.77 miles) so you are not alone.0 -
I just started 5k to 10k today. I had to remember the slow down mantra. It jumped me up from 30 minutes of running with five blocks of 8 minutes running with a one minute rest between each block. I can definitely see how this is going to improve my 5k.
@snbouchard81, @carmenFL1560, @Nutmegzz Congrats on starting and great work. Don't worry about speed or anything else. Just make sure you get out and run it at a comfortable pace for you and the rest will take care of itself.
@Aine8046 Way to go! You're really closing in on being done.0 -

As noted by a few. Distance does not matter so much at this point it's more about creating the stamina to handle the distance that you are running. Having said that... I get caught up in distance a lot as well. My week 1 distances were about 1.75-1.8 from start of warm up to end of cool down. So that is fairly normal.
Here is my Week 1 Day 1. Results.
Today I just finished Week 8 Day 2. (Zen Labs, I finish the whole program on Saturday!)
I ran for 28 minutes straight and covered 2.85 miles, with a 9:50/mile pace. Nothing amazing. But a VAST improvement. (This doesn't include the warm up/cool down)
So keep moving forward don't repeat unless it is needed do to missing a few days in a row.

Thank you so much for the supporting comments. Today I repeated W1D1 and surprisingly went better. I do need to get fitted for running shoes though. I start to experience calf and shin pain.0

Hi! This is my first post on here and today I just completed week5 day3. All week I kept talking myself out of doing it because I didn't believe I could, but I did it. Now I can't wait to finish the program and run my first 5k in November!0

W5D3 was the biggest hurdle (mentally), and the biggest confidence booster for me! I've had tougher runs since, but that was the turning point.0 -

It was a big accomplishment for me! I pushed past my limit and now I feel like I can conquer the world! I've already started looking at the schedules for 10ks, half marathons and marathons. No more limits... I'm falling in love with running!0 -

A MFP friend who completed C25K before me told me W5D3 was the turning point, the "make it or break it" run. I was apprehensive about the run, but once I got into the groove, found my pace, the run was good. And there was no looking back. I'm on W7D2 and have a 5K on Saturday. I'm already looking forward to the 10K training.

W8D2 Done! One more run left before graduation. We planned on being done today but its really been rainy lately, so we've had to "reschedule" the runs.0

@carmenFL1560 getting fit for running shoes was one of the best things I have ever done for myself. I never knew (because it never impacted me before) that I walk with my shin lined up on the inside of my ankle (I know there is a fancy word for it that my new best friend at the running store said--but it escapes me at the moment). I got shoes to help and my ankles have been far far less injury prone then they were when I played sports in middle school and high school. So much better!0
-
Yesterday I went across town and got fitted for running shoes. My dear MFP friends, what a difference!! When the consultant asked me to run for a little bit with the fitted shoes, I could not believe the difference! Since I had no idea what kind of shoes I needed, I would have never picked these by myself. Can't wait to use my new shoes on my next run tomorrow. @snbouchard81: you are so right! Because of my past ankle injuries they could see that my feet needed more support to prevent injuries. Thank you!0

Did week 5 day 3 today - the dreaded 20 minute run! I did it with a friend and we walked a little during the first 10 mins (very slightly uphill) but ran all the way back once we turned round, so that's still the most I've ever run in one go - so I call that a victory! I am incredibly slow -18+mins a mile - but I really don't care. I'm out there doing it and enjoying it, for the most part!0
