So HRV info this morning's reading was 95.7 and and FMBG was 105 @ 0500, Did my Jaunt (Fasted) in low end of my training HR (around 90)and Checked both HRV and Glucose HRV 64.11 and BG 92. HRV is telling me it wa a good walk and not too challenging, BG confirms challenging enough to have an effect.

Oh & John/TJ: I dreamt that I ate bread by mistake & had to start over on day 1

That's funny! And even funnier is the book I am reading on the psychology of combat just talked about it. Like John said when you are really starting to be in control of things your subconscious fear of failure kicks in to overdrive and invades your dreams. Col. Grossman said it's a common trait among elite Warriors who train hard, SEALs, SWAT teams, Army Special Forces etc, for them to be haunted by dreams of screwing up a mission because of something beyond their control like a broken gun or defective ammo. It can really mess with your head and in their case lead to self doubt etc. But it's actually a good sign. In my case as someone who carries a gun every day, trains consistently and has a family, I have had dreams where someone is attacking my family and I have to use my weapon. In my dream the gun has like a 100 pound trigger that I just can't pull. I wake up feeling like I failed to protect them when they needed me. Turns out it's not only normal, but a good sign that you are mentally prepared to do what needs to be done! Lol

So I guess you are a health food warrior now!

I am Kevin and I agree!

Last I checked they were on sale pretty cheap on Audible. Buy a couple they are not real long, be warned you may turun into more of a gun person if you read them!

I think that may be my new year's resolution, make Carol a true gun enthusiast!

John - I've been using HRV for some time, tho my readings are never as high as yours. My baseline on Elite HRV is in the mid to low 70's, I go amber when below mid-60s. I generally stay in the green - I believe because I so highly prioritize sleep, stress (meditation) and recovery - don't push myself nor cause extra stressors. My job and travel schedule is enough of a stress.

In the past 3 months, I may have had a red day or two ...which is generally directly tied to sleep (or lack thereof) and/or stress. You could look at my fitbit sleep chart and see the correlation. Which is two way IMO. Lower HRV if I don't get enough sleep (my minimum is 7 hours of actual sleep time)- but more around sleep quality, and the same stressors that affect my sleep quality affect my HRV. With CarbNite, I see a gradual trend line down through the week - which then spikes back up day after CarbNite, but that alone doesn't appear to be as much of a stressor to send me red. I think the 3 day schedule and short duration workouts of StrongLifts is perfect for my recovery, as is the daily jaunts. We'll see come spring/summer when biking gets in mix how that affects things. In the past I very easily get into a struggle with recovery mode if I do too much/push too many days a week. Guess that's age related.

Oh- and I started with the SweetBeat app, and was getting really low numbers (like the 20-30s), then I discovered my HRM wasn't one of their recommended ones, and must not send the proper signals (the ones to get the HF/LF readings). When I switched HRM (now have a 60 beats one), the numbers went to that 60-70 range. However, SweetBeat seemed to constantly drop the monitor. Due to the HealthNuts episode with Heron, I heard about Elite HRV and switched. Readings similar to SweetBeat but without the annoying signal drops.
  • Mark and Kevin, I'll help wear Carol down and turn her into a gun enthusiast.

2 weeks of no grains no sugar. That was pretty easy. I want to just keep going. My social life suffers from this lifestyle however so I don't think it's sustainable for me. At least not at this point in my life. I am thinking Sunday-Thursday no grain no sugar then Friday and Saturday have whatever comes my way with a caveat that I eat vegetables with whatever it is I'm indulging.

Overall down from 181 to 171. I say ~8lbs was water weight while ~2lbs was real BF. I haven't worked out other than a few rounds of Cindy (5 pull-ups, 10 push-ups, 15 squats) here and there. I am looking forward to working out again now that it's warming up...I'm still afraid to use my wrist though so no lifting in the foreseeable future. I think maybe by the end of February I will feel comfortable with it. I'm just stretching it and testing my limitations currently.

Side note: went to doctor on Monday and had my temp taken, like normal, and it came out at 97.2. I've been insanely cold lately. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the weight loss or not. Losing 10lbs even if it's water weight must have something to do with the low body temp. Anybody ever experience this?

I am going to have to look up that 299 Days.. I have had those same sorts of dreams, although it is usually my holster is empty.. :( Just a regular guy, never been in the service.

I also want to know about wearing shooting glasses to/before bed? I must have missed something.

I've definitely had those dreams! But, I'm not an elite operator, either.

Markd, I think the idea is to simulate the colors of the setting sun to get you into the dawn mood, and help your body prepare for sleep.

299 Days is more a story about community and preparedness from what I understand. Firearms are just another necessary tool in the toolbox. If anything, might turn Carol more into a Prepper than a gun enthusiast. Lol!

There's another good book (not a series), that Heron has read called "One Second After". If you want less story but A LOT of detail another book that Heron is reading is called "Patriots" by James Wesley Rawles.

Another one actually might be World War Z. It's really more a collection of short stories. Different from the movie adaptation. Ignoring the zombie aspect it's another look at society handling a collapse.

World War Z was pretty good. It took me a few chapters to figure out what the heck was going on, but it's basically a reporter interviewing people after the invasion (and ensuing collapse) about their stories during. Each chapter is a new storyteller, and it's structured to where they are in chronological order.

I should really finish reading it.

Chris - the low Body Temp could be the start of some Thyroid issues, not uncommon in ketogenic endurance athletes. Try upping your Organ Meats (liver and or heart) for some of your meals I like liver sausage and I mix it in to some of my Slow Cooker Concoctions. Generally get 8-12 oz per week. If you try that and don't get some relief might want to have it checked by Doc. Might want to do that anyway.

299 days is definitely not a gun book, but it will make you think. And that's the important part.

Ok.. Catch up time and I'm on my laptop yay.
Kris, its great hearing from you! Gripe away!

Debsue, you look adorable with those glasses. So, did it help?

TJ, I was going to suggest coffee for the headaches but I'm not sure if that's allowed in the whole 30 thing. Anyways coffee helps with headache Since the caffeine in coffee is a vasoconstrictor, it can help alleviate a headache by helping to reduce the size of the blood vessels

Jen, that's great that you are feeling better and I look forward to hearing you on the podcast

    Love the HRV talk

Chris, I know!! I really dislike social function when I'm on ULC days but I have to learn how to cope and not avoid well at least that's what Arturo tells me lol. And he is right I can't just avoid things I have to learn to cope. I'm actually not bad but even when I do well on a social event I'm still not all that happy because deep down I resent the fact that I can't have my carbs and wine. So I have a some ways to go to work on being happy with not being able to have what I want when I want. I sound like a brat when I write it this way haha hmmm

Most of my dreams are post apocalyptic type or fragments of what I think are memories or at least that's what it feels like to me when I wake up.

Carol try "one second after" since its a stand alone then if you like it get 299 days series.
I think all books of that genres makes you think because its social anthropology. That's what I like about it, I like to read different authors take on social collapse and restructuring, morality etc. People always like to say "Oh I can never do "X" " But until one is in that particular situation one will never know.

TJ, World War Z is a fun book to read since its just short stories you can just read a couple a stories each time you pick up the book. I love the section where the ex CEOs are doing manual labor or cleaners because they have no useful skills during restructuring.

    Making bacon wrapped pheasant tonight!

Heron, coffee is allowed. I'll drink a cup occasionally, but since I've been eating cleaner, I'm not as tired as I used to be, throughout the day. I used to drink at least 2 cups a day, because I "needed" it, now, it's more like 2 cups a week, if that.

    I did like that, also.

I've not been as tired either TJ! Seriously loving Whole30. I'm a little worried about the carb intake from veggies. I have almost all veggies all day long. I know I its not so much (net carbs) but I'm not really high fat right now. Whole30 doesn't recommend excessive fats. I'm going to start testing my blood glucose levels.

Kevin, Mark & Jen: 2015 should be my year! I'm still a chicken about the guns. I went to the range once & loved it. I actually have an extensive arsenal of air and air soft rifles & handguns. All locked up!! I have plans to start getting kids & hubby out with them. And of course more trips to the range for me.

Classes start again next week for me. Uggghhhhh!!!!
It's been nice knowin you guys.
  • My day is complete. I didn't eat a lot today, not on purpose but just because I wasn't all that hungry (had to force myself to eat dinner). The diary is closed.

Carol, we'll discuss all of gun stuff in February. Don't forget, Girls Like Guns, Too. Hehehe.... You BETTER check in with us to at least say Hi. :stuck_out_tongue:

Heron, I'm scared that Carol will be asking me difficult questions that I won't be able to answer. She seems tough 'on the air'. :) Seriously, I am really looking forward to it. I'm still new around here but really enjoying all of the support that everyone has shown.

Seems the gang is quite feisty and comical! I am always late to the party. Just stopping in to say I walked OUTSIDE tonight after work for a total 2.7 miles. Kind of proud of myself considering I have been up since 3:50 am working. My eyes can't even focus anymore, so I am off to shower, do some more work and sleeeeeeep! Catch ya on the flip side. Almost the weekend and even though I will be working all weekend (from home) I am stoked!

...forgot to add that the dinner I had negates any walking. I had fried goodies and feel zero guilt >:)
  • I have read all of the books mentioned above. I read 299 days back when he was putting them out once every three months. Talk about a carbohydrate Jones for the next one to come out. Also try lights out. Carol, There is a girl name Rachel that is on the polite society podcast that teaches firearms down in the Austin area. Might check her out. She seems like a real nice and safe young lady. Cheers.

Funtastic Friday Folks! Glad to be Fitbiting again.

Well an interesting night. Woke up at 0200 without my glasses on thought it was 5 did an HRV reading (98.07) put on my glasses to finish the reading questions, and realized what time it was. Went back to bed, woke up at 0500 did another reading (85.8) felt like a bit more sleep would be beneficial and got up just before 7 so all in all got my 5 and a bit, feel fine, but probably won't jaunt this morning. Got to throw some stuff in a gym bag will be staying in Dublin tonight and heading to Macon to visit Maris, our dementia ward Rec Therapist, who has been out since Thanksgiving weekend due to complications from her Lapband. It nearly killed her (Septic Shock has an 80% Mortality rate in the US) and she finally got her Picc tubes removed Monday. She is now on a soft food diet. We are hoping she will be back to work at the end of Feb or early March.
So will be checking in from my phone tomorrow, will see how the ap works for that.

Happy Friday, TGIF and all that!

This week has flown by. Just really busy at work. Beginning of the year planning, strategizing etc. which is the kind of work that comes naturally to me, but I've noticed I've been sitting still for longer periods of time versus using my standing desk or going back and forth. Must correct that!

Good reading on the scale today. Makes me happy.

As expected HRV done another point. Typical as I head towards tomorrow's carb night.

Very cool certificate John! Again congrats. Wondering when and what will be level 2....when they make a point of pointing level 1 on there I assumes they will have higher ones ( thinking like a marketer). Did the course mention anything?

No Kim it didn't in fact never called it level I in marketing or the program so was wondering all that myself. (and a bit miffed that they didn't call it that from the start)

    Very cool John!

Heron.. read Patriots and Grey 90's(early version of Patriots) years ago. A friend of mine has a couple out: Against the Grain and Pillars of the Fall by Ian Daniels. Lights out was a really good one too. Vampire Earth was another interesting series, and I still have not read all of them yet. I used to read 15 books a month or more when I was travelling all the time. Of course I would be remiss without mentioning anything by Larry Correia....

Not sleeping very well.. way too much stress again. Holding steady on the eating although my carbs have crept up into the 60's.. I love reading how you all are doing even if I am not posting much. Keep it up all of you.
