Quest Bars, Yay or Nay?

All low carb processed food/bars are a gamble in my opinion My 1st choice would always be eat veggies or lean meat. That said, if your traveling a low carb bar makes a nice "Meal Replacement" key words being Meal Replacement. I would suggest supplementing your diet daily with low carb bars might be counter-productive to long term weight loss.

So much no on the Quest bars. I bought a box last week (I had a little traveling to do and wanted them for my purse) and ate the whole box in 2-3 days. Then I wobbled horribly eating foods I would normally be able to pass up. I know better than to get them. I dont have self control with them or after either.0

This was my experience with them -- I would keep a couple in my desk at work and aim to eat half as a midafternoon snack -- and then eat the whole bar. I think the artificial sweeteners are a trigger for me. I have made my own, too, using erythritol as the sweetener, which seems to be ok in small doses. I can make the portions smaller, and I freeze them, so it is harder to over-indulge.

I haven't tried them, but I sure would like to for convenience sake once in a while. I cannot eat them because they contain ingredients I cannot eat due to a medical diet that is restrictive due to the pain certain ingredients cause. Chocolate being one of them. I also don't eat artificial sweeteners because of the same reason, and I don't eat sugar alcohols because they are not worth the pain from serious gas bloating that I get when I have consumed them in the past. I see my hubby eat Atkins bars and shakes on the regular and it makes me damn jealous! I say do whatever works for you.0

Sugar alcohols tear up my stomach (read the "explosive sugar-free gummy bear story" for examples of what I mean...). So for me, just not worth it. That, and any sugar alcohols over the 5-10 range start affecting my cravings as sugar. I have yet to have a quest bar because they are expensive, but in a time crunch or while traveling, I wouldn't rule it out completely as an option. I have problems with soy, similar to the sugar alcohols situation, but I'm not sure if these contain soy. I know a lot of "protein" bars do...0

FYI, there's a Groupon for Quest bars right now--$24.99 for a 12-pack of bars or something like that. In case anyone is interested.0

I eat 'fake foods' very very rarely - probably only once a fortnight, when I'm in a desperate situation. I try to eat Nakd bars or Primal Kitchen bars - never seen a Quest Bar where I shop.
But I always carry a pouch of beef jerky and a bag of cashews with me so I don't really find myself in desperate situations any more.0 -
I've had a couple different flavors. They weren't BAD, and didn't seem to effect me in anyway, but they weren't very tasty either. I will be getting an assortment of them for when I'm doing the fair and show circuit this summer. I veiw them very much as an "oh crap there's nothing here that even reasonably fits my diet"(goat shows) situation thing.0

All of those that are telling you to "eat real food" must not realize that almost all food is "processed" in some way. Do you not eat bacon, or beef, or cheese, or.....please, let's keep the shaming to a minimum.
Oh, please. I think we can all see the difference between a hunk of meat, or a head of lettuce, versus some long list of unpronounceable ingredients stuffed into packaging and called a meal replacement bar. I have nothing against using meal replacement bars or shakes on occasion, or even regularly, if this is what it takes to keep your blood sugar levels under control. Invariably, however, I find it more satisfying to eat whole foods. I believe many of us feel the same.
