I'm new here and overwhelmed with the amount of reading I have in front of me (what a great group!) I'm a Canadian expat living in Minnesota. Our weather too has finally improved...I'm wearing sweaters again and wool socks Improved?? What am I saying!!!0

I grew up in the beautiful Pacific Northwest and now I live in northern Wyoming. Summers are usually fairly warm. It has finally cooled down at night-40's and 50's. Much better for sleeping!!!0

For the past 20 years I've lived in Columbia, Missouri, a relatively small city in the center of the state. This is the home of the flagship campus of the University of Missouri. The weather has been unsettled, weeks of heat and humidity followed by very mild, perfect weather. Fall and Spring are great here - Summer and winter, not so much.
I grew up in the greater New York Area and spent most of my adulthood (so far) in New Rochelle.

I like how lots of the people from USA/Canada don't state what country they are from, is that common? To presume the rest of the world is familiar with your towns and states?0

Outside a one stoplight town in rural southern Ontario, Canada. Buckhorn to be more precise. Fun that we are from all over the world.0

Yup. Cuz that's the way we roll....apparently. Arrogant and presumptuous, aren't we?
And back on topic. Northeastern Tennessee, in the Appalachian Mtns., Southeastern U.S., North America.0 -

Lol. This is a very good point. And very common indeed. I'm certainly guilty. But not this time!

@Baconslave! My grandmother lives in Dandridge, TN! I love your area of the U.S.! So beautiful there!
I've never considered adding USA to the end of where I'm from on here before either. I never meant to offend, but if seeing Mississippi written sends you looking for a map to find it, then I've provided some unintentional education, lol! I'm confessing, I run for a map when I don't know where someplace is. That's just me though, I'm a map junky (is that weird?). Carry on! I love hearing where everyone is from!0 -
I'm Mike and I live on Canada's west coast in Vancouver, British Columbia.
@carom We've been studying your earthquake (I'm involved in emergency preparedness) as our region is seismically active. Hard to believe it's already been five years.
Hi mike, those 5 years have gone really fast, we still get the quakes, some you notice. I think most people have now stopped jumping every time they hear a rumble. My stress levels have certainly improved !0 -

Being the homeschooler that I am, I that.
I took World Geography in college so it's rare if I run into a place I haven't heard of. So if that happens, I jump on dear Google.0 -
Link to a list of the 50 states in the U.S. and their abbreviations should you be curious and/or need to decipher previous posts.

nice @baconslave! I never considered the outpouring of responses to this thread! It is really neat to see where mfp reaches in our world? As I said, I am from The Boston, Massachusetts, USA area. We are on the northeastern coast also referred to New England. It was on the shores of this state that the mayflower made its first home. It is also the home of the New England Patriots! (American football 4 time winners of the Super Bowl). But I digress!0

My kids are at home too. Gotta love those teachable moments.
I'm another who just states the province with the city. Sorry about that. It was a bit presumptive of me.
I just add the province because it gives people an idea of geography. North, west, or east, etc.... I won't say south for Canada.0 -
I think it's very common not to list US when saying where your from. It's not done intentionally to offend anyone. I know for myself the majority of the people I speak with or meet are also from the states so it does without saying and just becomes habit. It is confusing for me sometimes, people will sometimes leave out the state as if we know their city or a lot of times they'll mention land marks to give an idea of what area. Like I assume everyone knows where Niagara falls is, though I'm sure many don't so that doesn't always help.0
