I love the sleeves, too! I really wanted sleeves but there are just so few dresses with sleeves in the stores right now and I couldn't find one that I liked. You look like a princess!0

^^ My dress I loved wearing it and am so bummed that I won't get to wear it again! I'm not sure what to do with it yet...keep it? try to sell it? not sure...0

Awww...GORGEOUS! I heard of a bride who kept her dress and wore it every year on the anniversary of her wedding even if just for a little bit for her husband...there was a whole sweet story that went with it and I can't remember what it was, but she made it a tradition.
I've also heard of others altering it, like dye or removing the train (bottom) and etc to make it into an evening gown or cocktail dress??0 -
Jill, you look absolutely stunning! Ive heard of people framing their dress to put on the wall, or you can get a lovely keepsake box for it. I love the idea of trying it on once a year! (Might be a good incentive to avoid weight gain too!) I don't think I could bear to cut mine up or dye it!0

Absoultely gorgeous, love the winter fur.
I think I'm going to have mine taken up so I can wear again, or not have it made too long. Kiera Knightly wore hers to events!0 -
Thanks, ladies! I think having it altered would probably cost a ton and I doubt I'd really wear it again. I think I'll end up trying to sell it and if I don't have luck there, I'll just have it boxed up and stash it somewhere. I can't imagine having it put on the wall, haha! I heard about people who put them on every anniversary..def would be good incentive regarding weight0

Been looking at more and more dresses online since I leave for Las Vegas & Seattle this coming Saturday for a weeklong trip where I will spend some time trying on different dresses.
I know that I don't want a train and I don't want backless or sleeveless. Even if the sleeves are sheer, I want sleeves and I want my back covered and I'm taking the advice from you lovely ladies in the above^^ thread about getting a lace up rather than a button or zip...otherwise I'm clueless about what type of dress I'll be getting...UGH!0 -
@Alioth I totally missed your dress somehow, it's gorgeous! I like the fabric and detail0
-
One thing I would say is make sure you try on a variety and if the price is right keep in mind that seamstresses can do a lot. I was sure I didn't want anything fitted and absolutely wanted some straps. Ended up with fit and flare fitted through the hips and strapless. Even if you're sure it's not what you want (or positive it isn't), it doesn't necessarily hurt to try it on.
If you particularly want your back and arms covered, you could look for a cute shrug or scarf to wear over a dress that may have a lower cut in back or less sleeves than you want. May open up more options (I had trouble just finding dresses that weren't strapless). If you don't want a train, you may even have options of getting a seamstress to take the fabric from the train and make a shrug so it matches perfectly.
Have fun!0 -
I finally looked up how to post pics so thought I'd share mine. I look like crap, but I love the dress. Unfortunately had it fit after a week home eating lots of junk food, so hoping in 6 months I'll need it taken in (despite the corset back). Also sharing the close-up of the lace up back that also better shows some of the beading.0 -
Sarah, that is absolutely gorgeous! I love the beading and the shape!0
-
OMGoodness @brisingr86 your dress is GORGEOUS! the beading is just right and the fit looks awesome on your figure! I will definitely keep in mind about the abilities of seamstresses and keep an open mind with the option of a shrug or cover for sure, although being from S.E. Alaska and never knowing what the weather might be I might need BOTH!0
-
Love the shape Sarah! And the thickness of the fabric:)0
-
Love it, Sarah! Check out that perfect hour glass figure!0

I'm a big fan of poof and lace. Here's one look I'm really hooked on right now.

Shelby, that's really pretty. I'm not a huge poof fan, but the lace work is beautiful! Are you planning to start shopping soon and then adjust in alterations once you're closer or waiting until you lose a bit to start shopping?0
-
OOoo! Those are pretty! I like the Poof Shelby Also, although it's probably not your focus, I really like the hair pieces!0
-
xxghost - this dress is so beautiful! I love the buttons and the cinched-in waist! Have you tried it on?0
-
MsMariaJean, best of luck to you dress shopping! I definitely just want to recommend that you bring a bottle of water with you and perhaps some simple snacks (like almonds). Depending on how the day goes, it helps to keep yourself nourished0
-
Sarah, what a great silhouette! The dress is stunning!
Shelby, when you start trying dresses on, I wanna see pics! I like that style, it just didn't work for me personally.0 -
I found my dress, it's not what I expected, like many of you said...i need some hem alterations, that is not the veil nor shrug- I'll be looking for others and i am going to look into the dye dip to add some color, not really sure if it will take, but it was a very inexpensive dress and I loved the fit!0 -
YAY Marla Jean! The fit looks awesome; very flattering to your figure. Who doesn't need hemming? ;-) The dye sounds cool. Hope it turns out they way you want in your head. Finding a great price on a dress you love just makes it even better.0
-
Geesh, sorry for the big picture! I don't usually do them directly from my phone so I can size them down a bit...YIKES!
it should look more like this (see below) but I can't edit the one above...

This is gorgeous and shows off your hourglass figure so well! You look beautiful! Looking forward to seeing the final version with your veil, shrug, and possibly some colour!0
-
Your dress is stunning @MsMarlaJean
I actually love all of the dresses everyone has put up. I love when you find the Dress, you just know its the right one.
I'd love to show you my dress but I can't unfortunately, my OH is on MFP. I'll send you a pic from the wedding day in May. x0 -
Great fit!0

@fitfor30th I am SERIOUSLY considering your idea of Dip Dyeing the skirt (not the organza overlay), underneath with yellows or yellow and orange, do you have any internet links about it or information you could share? Are you planning on doing this yourself or did/will you find someone to do it professionally? Do you think I should get it hemmed first and then do it or dye it and then get it hemmed?
I am also considering searching and/or making my veil and shrug ( @brisingr86 perhaps using your idea about the material from the train, should I decide to remove it) in yellow or getting it dip dyed in yellow/orange to match the skirt...what do you ladies think? I REALLY want to incorporate some color and I DON'T want to add a sash because I don't want to draw attention to that area for one and also because I don't want to cover up the corset lacing in the back...I love that detail.0 -
I think that a bit if colour looks lovely. I wanted colour but my fiancé is very traditional and wouldn't like it. If yours would then i think you should go for it! (But please get it done professionally unless you have done this a lot before!!)0
-
P.S. I have gone for bright red shoes, which is a nice easy low-risk way to add colour.0
