Hello everyone. I'm creating this journal to keep track of my OMAD diet -- I'm hoping that being more public with my diet will help me actually create some long-term consistency with it.
Today I've not done any dieting at all -- I've been quite terrible, in fact, having a hamburger and fries from Jack in the Box and later having chicken carnitas from a Mazatlan restaurant, so my "OMAD Diet" officially starts tomorrow.
I did take a walk today. I'm planning on getting a recumbent bike to help strengthen my legs and specifically my quadriceps and glutes to support my knees, increase my cardiovascular health, etc. I've got a surgery scheduled on Feb. 2nd, so I'm not sure how consistent I'll be able to be with exercise until after I heal up from that -- it should only take about a month though, it's a pretty simple eye surgery, so I'll get into a proper routine after that. I'll also start a stretching routine after I heal up from surgery to help with tight hips/etc. from computer use.

Welcome!
You can totally own up and stay with it. You've got plenty of support here and can succeed when you know you are ready. Your story is going to be "big" for sure. And the reactions from those around you will be more then enough to keep you going--they will augment your very image of how you perceive others as seeing you.
There'll be time for exercise later. Doesn't matter. Keep your activity levels low while fasting and you will lose faster than you otherwise would.

I think I overdid it on the portions, but I'm more concerned about sticking to the fasting portion of things at the moment. I'll worry about portions after I get into a good groove. I successfully fasted all day today. It was pretty simple overall. I drank a lot of water. Got hunger pangs around the noon that went away, then some genuine hunger/headache around 4pm. Had dinner at 5pm. Pretty good day overall.
I also weighed myself in at 358.4 lbs this morning, so that'll be my official starting point. I'll weigh in weekly on Fridays going forward.0 -
Welcome, good luck on your surgery and on your weight loss. Omad isn't as bad as it first sounds. It seems like a lot of us weigh in on Fridays so we will all succeed together. Have a great weekend.0

Another successful day down. I had much less hunger issues today and had quite a bit of extra energy during my fast today. I did have Diet Arizona Green Tea today which I think helped suppress hunger a bit and add to my energy levels. I didn't get a headache or have any nausea today either. I was pretty busy playing video games today and didn't really notice when dinnertime crept up, so I think a good element of fasting is the "keep busy" aspect of it!
Dinner:
Steak
Cheesy Cauliflower
Rice Pilaf
Potato Soup
I went big on the portions again today, but again I'm kinda focusing on perfecting the fasting portion, then I'll worry about calories. I don't think I'm doing that poorly on overall calories though.
I was planning on taking a picture, but ended up eating it before I remembered that I wanted to do that. I'll start doing that eventually, I swear.0 -

Weighed myself this morning - 355.2 lbs; 3.2 lbs lost over just a couple of days with OMAD. Mostly water weight, I'm sure, but still quite motivational. My first "mini-goal" is to get under 350, so I've only got a little over 5.2 lbs to go!0 -
Today's meal, I went to the restaurant Ruby Tuesday's and had:
(Since their web site has calorie counts I decided I'd add it up out of curiosity.)
Chicken Bites w/ buffalo sauce (219 cal)
Ribs & Chicken Tenders w/ fries (1282 cal)
Chocolate Goblet Sundae (866 cal, I ate about half of it)
So about ~2400 calories or so.
I could have gone without the sundae, but I wanted to test out the dessert. Feeling pretty good overall. I'm planning on having a large breakfast tomorrow and then fast for the rest of the day for my surgery on Tuesday. I don't want anything in my stomach when I'm getting my eye poked, haha.0 -

Hey everybody. So yesterday and today I'm totally not following OMAD. I'll be getting back on it tomorrow - my surgery's kind of whacked out my eating a bit here, which I'm fine with.
On the plus side my eye surgery went really well!
Yesterday's eating:
Gigantic breakfast at Shari's
Later on, in the afternoon: 2 grilled cheese sandwiches + chicken soup & lemonade
Today:
Muffin + Cranberry juice (after surgery)
Cookie + Raspberry tea Snapple (after surgery)
Burger King (2 chicken sandwiches, 2 fries) (~1pm)
Massamun Curry (Beef) for dinner later (~5-6pm)
I'm kind of "giving in" to the comfort food aspect these past two days, but I'll switch back to OMAD tomorrow. I'm planning on doing spaghetti.
Also, I weighed myself at the hospital before surgery and was at 355 lbs (with shoes), so I'm probably more like 354 lbs overall. Not bad. I'll do an "official" weigh-in on Friday.0 -

Well, I'll just say I've been terrible about my diet here, haha. I'm gonna fast as much as I can over the next two days (which won't be much on Sunday, if I'm being honest) and then get 100% on OMAD on Monday. My surgery kind of whacked out my dedication, unfortunately.
On the flip side I weighed myself at 355.8 today, so not a huge gain. I'll get back on track tomorrow, then try to do the best I can on Sunday, and then after that I'll be sure to stick to OMAD.
I'm also adding a little note here to myself that I need to have OMAD at dinnertime because if I eat early in the day it just makes me more hungry throughout. Also, Diet Arizona Green Tea helps me as an appetite suppressant.

I've been really bad with my diet. I've really fallen into the "comfort food" trap I put myself into a lot. I'm gonna have a small dinner tonight (I ate a large breakfast today, and ice cream) and really force myself to stick with OMAD from here on out. I'm gonna use the small plate technique and get the stomach shrinkage going on because right now I can really pack away the food, haha.
On a more cheerful note I'm healing up from my eye surgery pretty well, no problems that way. I'm thinking about getting an exercise bike next month and taking a "ride" each morning to kind of jump start my day by breaking a sweat and getting some happy feelings from the exercise. I think it'll help me stick to my OMAD better.

Why omad works for me:
1. I eat tell full each day (I'm not as strict as some and eat in a 3hr window).
2. My stomach shrinks from the fast so getting full doesn't put me over maint cals and leaves me with a deficit. I still enjoy treats and all food groups. Being able to eat back exercise cals helps me to get full and still have a deficit.
3. I don't get very hungry during the fast because I don't awaken the beast (my stomach) with food and I drink a lot of water. Once awoken, the beast is hard to control. It tries and can often overtake my mind and bend my will to its will.
Because of all this, this diet is sustainable for me and I can do it as long as needed to get to my goal weight (I've made it 5 months so far and have probably 4 to 8 months to go).
If fasting omad style is hard on you, you might try just going to lunch before eating and keep pushing it back tell you can handle it. Once you awaken the beast it is hard to stop so don't get started as long as you can. I think for fasting diets, you push back when you start eating until your eating window doesn't allow you to eat past maint cals. You must have a deficit in cals.
I also think that getting your cals in a short time window results in the body not being able to convert the temporary excess cals into fat because it just can't process it fast enough. On the flip side, I think our bodies can keep up with snacking and will turn about every molecule of that into fat. Don't snack!
Make a plan on how you are going to increase your fast window and make a commitment to not eat before then (drink some water or something-it helps a lot).
Log your cals and be aware of your intake. This is all about getting a cal deficit so you should probably be aware of what your doing. If your strict about small eating windows and portion sizes, you won't have to count cals and you will by default have cal deficits.
Want it! It's really not hard once your stomach gets shrunk a bit. Also, your energy level will be much better (level) during the fast than when you are cycling up and down with your blood sugar levels while eating. Promise! You can do it.
I really like being able to do more stuff now that I've lost some weight:
I have more breath (don't have as big a load to carry)!
I can tie my shoes without getting out of breath!
My bood pressure is way down!
My bood sugar levels have improved!
My energy levels have improved significantly!
I don't snore anymore and sleep better (probably helps my energy levels)!
I'm looking better (so my wife tells me)!
and more!
You have to do it, it is worth it! With this type of diet, it is feasable! Good luck.

Thanks everyone! I'm really motivated to stick to my plan. I'm gonna do some research on emotional eating and see what kind of techniques I can use to help me fix that problem because really I don't have a "hunger" issue, I just use food as an emotional crutch.
I'll start taking a photo of my dinner and posting it up here on my journal in addition to tracking my calorie intake. I've gotta get really serious about this or else I'll never get to my goals. I'm kind of that 100% or nothing kind of mentality, unfortunately.

I am an emotional eater as well, speaking from experience........this plan fixes that issue, It REALLY does.
Ive had a few days recently where I would normally emotionally eat to comfort myself.... but this time, that just never happened at all. I was met with an intermal cold stone wall that simply said no. So I smoked my cigs and sipped my cola instead, and the emotional issue disappeared.

I don't follow the paleo/primal diet myself, but there are a good chunk of people who do that and follow intermittent fasting, so I find them to be a fairly good resource when it comes to that.

A very odd assortment of food today, but I'm doing something of a "leftover clear-out" kind of meal. I kept portions down generally since I'm having multiple plates (the salad looks deceptively large, it's just a lot of lettuce).
