Yes, 10 pounds is great! Have you tried a pregnancy weight gain calculator? It may put your mind at rest.0

Yes i actually did. I have that guideline. Am 3lbs over my max.0 -
I am rapidly gaining i haven't been consitant with my walking. Up 10 lbs at 17 weeks 3days. Am hoping the last 3 lbs is just water weight lol and will to away by next docs apt.
That isn't really so bad! I hear that the ideal is 10lbs at 20 weeks. I'm almost 16 weeks and at 7lbs already.
Thanks. I started in 150s. And 5'5 . So i dnt want to go over 30lb gain. Need to get more excerise in to balance it out.0 -
3 lbs over is nothing, everyone gains at different pace and that's a guideline only. You'll be fine, I am sure.0

I totally hear you you. I am a little obsessed with staying within the guidelines too but I'm trying to calm down and realize that weight gain won't always be linear. I may gain more than 1 lbs in a week. Today for example I'm up 2lbs from yesterday! That definitely must be water weight, so I'm just doing deep breaths0 -

I've had this happen to me sometimes during the first tri. I gained like 2-3 pounds in a week. The next week I lost it all and some more... sometimes our bodies act really weird when we're pregnant... Maybe you won't gain at all this week... who knows... GL.0 -

Thank you!! I appreciate hearing that. Hopefully it levels out over the next week or two.0 -
Yes, it may just be water retention or something. My weight can change by a couple of pounds from day to day easily, hence why I like to weight more often so that I can identify those abnormal highs.0
-
I've been losing and gaining the same 3 lbs the entire first trimester (without trying). So I'm basically at the same weight as before I got pregnant. Because I am overweight, I only need to gain 11-15lbs during the entire pregnancy. Now that I am starting to be able to eat a better variety of foods again, I'm focusing on eating as "clean" as possible and keeping up my workouts. Most weeks I get 4 workouts in at orange theory fitness...though I haven't been very good at logging them. I think that has helped a lot.0

Stuck to 1800 - 1900 calories everyday this week and worked out 4x. I think I'll continue this plan for the rest of the second trimester if I can!0 -
It's been comforting to see such wide variation! I am DETERMINED to stay under 30 lbs gained this time around (after gaining 55lbs apiece in my first 2 pregnancies) but am already off to what I thought was a terrible start. I'm 9 weeks now and up 6 lbs. That's not great, but it looks like a lot of people have wonky first trimesters but can get back on track and see things even out later on.
Is it awful that I'd like to sneak DOWN like 3 lbs for the remainder of my first trimester, which would put me back on track to stay under 30 total if I gain 1 lb a week for second and third trimesters? Putting my levels to losing a half pound a week still allows me to eat 1650, which feels like plenty--do you think it's okay if I do this for the next 5 weeks as long as I keep taking my prenatal vitamins?0 -

I don't think cutting calories to lose in the first trimester is a good idea. I had a huge jump one week and was a bit ahead of schedule. I just kept my calories slightly above maintenance and worked out 4 days a week. I've been able to slow my weight gain down to 1/2 a pound a week.0 -
5'3" starting weight on doctor's scale: 130 lbs
8 weeks: 130
12 weeks: 132
16 weeks: 138
20 weeks: 147
25 weeks: 150
28 weeks: 153

So far: 28 lbs
I need to stop stuffing my face but I'm super hungry and super active with all the nesting I'm doing. Even a 6lb (water) weight loss from the stomach flu didn't stop me from gaining weight overall. This last stretch in my pregnancies I've gained 11lbs, 10 lbs and 1 lb. Hoping to stay under a 35 lb weight gain (ideally 30 total).0 -
7w5d and have stayed in the same 4 pound range since finding out at 3w5d. I increased my cals on here to maintenance, I continue to work out 5 days a week, and hope that the weather will start cooperating for walking the dogs nightly. Right now they are walked 3-4 times a week.0

Currently 18.1 weeks along:
SW: 123 pounds
Week 7: 124.2 (+1.2)
Week 9: 125 (+2)
Week 10: 125 (+2)
Week 11: 125.4 (+2.4)
Week 12: 126.4 (+3.4)
Week 13: 126.8 (+3.8 gained in the first trimester)
Week 14: 127.8 (+4.8)
Week 15: 129 (+6)
Week 16: 128.8 (+5.8)
Week 17: 129.8 (+6.8)
Week 18: 131.6 (+8.6)
I'm ok with my weight gain. I seem to be gaining exactly like when I was pregnant with my son and ended up gaining 25 pounds. And I'm eating a LOT (but exercising as well, which helps I guess)!0 -

I've gained more than I would like - I was really hoping to stay under 10lbs until 20 weeks but I'm eating healthy and exercising daily so there isn't much I can do! I think the fact that I was MUCH more active before getting pregnant (cycling 150KM a week and weight lifting) may have something to do with it. I don't feel comfortable road cycling while pregnant though.0 -
Lisa, that is pretty close to your target! Women gain at different rates through their pregnancies, so it may level out again later.
My weight was very stable until the last couple of weeks, when I started putting on nearly 2 pounds a week! I hope that trend won't last!! Hopefully some of it is water. One can but hope, right? Still only up 1.5 pound in total, so it is much better than in my previous pregnancies, but it is hard to see the numbers go up so fast.

I'm liking how tracking at maintenance feels too. I actually dropped DOWN 4 lbs this past week just doing that, so I'm now 10 weeks and up just 2 lbs, which is right on track with my goals. Wahoo! I think I'll go up a few hundred calories and try to gain a pound per week once I'm in second trimester.
It's nice to see people here who have done so well with pregnancy weight gain. Bravo.0 -
Start: 166 lbs (8 weeks pregnant)
Current: 164.8 lbs (20 weeks pregnant)
I have yet to gain any weight from my first OB appointment, so I'm thankful for that! I think my weight is just redistributing to my belly area lol I'm really hoping to keep the gain at a minimum this pregnancy since I started out overweight.0 -
Welcome Sarah & Cassie!
Emma - I think it's great you made it this far and you're just starting to gain!
I'll admit, even though I started at a normal BMI, I'm pretty jealous of you ladies who have made it to 20 weeks without gaining any weight! My doctor told me they have changed the guidelines in Canada and even women who start at a healthy weight are only supposed to gain 20-30 lbs.0 -
Lisa, I swear the guidelines change weekly here (Australia)! Or maybe it's just who you speak to? I see a different midwife at every appointment, and if I listened to all of their advice, my head would probably explode from the contradictions!
Currently 32+3 weeks, and am sitting 0.5kg above my pre-pregnancy weight (started at an overweight BMI).0 -
20 weeks and 3 days and I'm 15lbs up. Slacking in the excerise department. I feel my thighs growing by the day. Only part of gaining weight that really bothers me the most during pregnancy. I love being pregnant otherwise.0
-
ME, TOO! I'm almost 20 weeks and up about 15lbs...I am eating all the food and not working out...instead of feeling bad for myself, I need to get off my butt and watch those calories!!0
-
Well done Ruby on only gaining 0.5kg by 32 weeks, that's really good going!
I wish the guidelines were what they are now when I had my first babies - I might not have been so overweight then (never lost my last round of pregnancy weigh ).
Doing exercise every day has really helped me. These past two weeks i haven't been doing it regularly as I have been too tired/stressed and have so much work to do, and it is showing on the scales. I need to get back into that again.
If I gain half a pound a week from now until my due date, my total gain will be 6.3 pounds (about 3 kg gain, which should equate to an overall fat loss of about 5kg). However, if I gain 2 pounds (800 grams) every week, then my total gain will be 23 pounds (10.3kg), so there is still all to play for!
I am going to focus on getting protein and slow release carbs with every meal and eating every 2-3 hours. I also need to wean myself of the chocolate which has been so tempting lately!0 -
Woah, 19 weeks and I gained 2 pounds this week!!!
I gained 10.6 pounds so far...0 -

I've noticed a couple big jumps the past few weeks! My "official" weigh in is Saturday but I think I'm up 12 pounds at 19 weeks. However it is all in my belly! It is huge!
