    Low magnesium is bad for diabetes and heart issues.

    Some people may need to put 3000 mg a day in their body to get that much into their body as has been noted. Being happy with RDA numbers is like being excited making $7.25 an hour trying to feed a family of four.

    At my age I am working on levels just under being toxic to my health. :)

    In short I do not trust RDA numbers based on research I have read. I see a catch 22 when it comes to nutrition info in general.

    After reading about magnesium (widespread deficiency in the population, effects on digestive tract, etc.) I decided that although I probably need to supplement with magnesium by mouth, it's too risky for someone who already has digestive issues. I try to take as many Epsom salt soaks as I can manage. (They're very relaxing but Type A folks like me who need them the most find them the most boring. Kinda like yoga.)

    That sounds like a good idea in your case. I do the liquid version under the tongue as well to side step the digestive tract with some of my magnesium supplements.

    There are several Magnesium lotions as well - I use one directly on sore muscles after a workout. And a second one that has melatonin in it before bedtime - it has a very different effect than taking melatonin by mouth that I prefer (not groggy or anything, just better "rest").

    I started using oxide. Citrate was irritating my bladder. I might give sublingual Mg or Mg lotion a try.

    There are advocates (MDs) who blog on Mg...I take a liquid added to water, tea, etc, and yes we need MORE than the 300…800 is closer to best, reason being our FOOD no longer has the amount of nutrients..our grandparents got much higher amounts in all veggies, etc because soils were amended. another reason to find and buy local, ask the farms if they add to their soils, or rotate.

    Agri-farming has produced veggies with 1/10th!! the iron, Mg, other minerals we must have in our foods.
    I saw a video online detailing this, so organic, local may be best but we all can't afford that all the time.

    If you eat very few veggies under Keto then what you do eat must replace that, or take a supplement.
    PS MgOxide is the lowest absorption of all..just 4%, even if it is cheap, it is not doing much at all. So Epsom salts are the cheapest, a hot foot bath at end of day may be a quick fix. Or skin oils.

    400mg mag citrate here, also solved a friend's very bad leg cramps quickly. He was willing to try it but doubted it would help. Both very happy it did.

    Any amount (and kind) of oral magnesium has a laxative affect on me due to previous bowel surgery. So I now make my own magnesium lotion using magnesium chloride.

    Which form of magnesium is good for sleep as well, I'm taking mag citrate for the irregular bowels and it's working a treat but I am wide awake at night even with a prescribed sleeping tablet zopliclone 7.5mg. I'm so tired but just can't sleep.
    I am going back to my doctor tomorrow but he doesn't want me on sleeping tablets anyway so doubt he's going to be very helpful.

I've read a lot about the magnesium glycinate....I think that's what it's called but I can't find it locally so I'm going to have to order it online. I've also read that 5-htp will help with sleep so I'm going to try that one as well. Good luck....not sleeping sucks!

    Mag glycinate is good for sleep.
