Very tardy, but I'm here! :)

Jen, I'm so sorry that such evil, hateful, ignorant ugliness has reared up so close to you. If Scotland holds & passes a 2nd indy ref perhaps you & yours should consider moving north!

    Checking in.

I spent Saturday night comforting some friends who'd experienced some rather nasty racial abuse, people shouting racial insults at them in the street and telling them to "**** off back home". They were born in this town. And this morning, I noticed someone had carved swastikas into the glass at my local bus stop. Genuine swastikas. I felt sick.

My partner and I are seriously considering moving abroad. Nowhere's going to be perfect, but for the first time in my life, I don't want to be in my home country.

My nan died earlier this year, and she left me a small amount of money in her will, which I will get towards the end of this year. Its not a large amount, but would enable us to do a once in a lifetime move to somewhere new.

Our first choice would have been Canada, but we probably wouldn't have the right skills to get in. We're looking at whether we'd be able to find somewhere that we could get jobs, have a small but happy home, and settle in to the local community.

Its weird, it makes me feel sad that I'm considering moving, but the idea of the adventure of moving somewhere new is kinda exciting. Its a mix of emotions.

I feel your pain, I think there were a lot of shocked people Friday morning, me being one of them. I am very worried about our future right now, but the fact these racists somehow think a vote for the UK to leave the EU gives them permission to say whatever they want is damn right maddening. They are not they type of people that make Britain Great and I would rather see them leave our shores.

Lets not let this uncertain UK future knock us off course for our own futures though, I can do that all by myself ;)

    3rd July, checking in.

Absolutely pooped today. I did a 10k sponsored walk, starting this morning, which I figured would be a challenge, but doable.

No one told me what the terrain would be like, and it was rough. There were some crazy steep hills, and after 8.5km, I felt really ill, so had to stop for ten minutes or so as I felt weak and nauseous. I had to carry on as it was in the middle of the Peak District and it was not as if I could just stop where I was and get a bus/taxi!
If it gives you any indication of how steep the hills were, my Fitbit registered the equivalent of 95 flights of stairs climbed during the walk alone! I just passed 100 for the day.

I'm glad I finished, but next time I agree to do anything of this sort, I'll check out the walk itself.

@BigChangeNeeded ...A big "Woo-Hoo" to you for completing AND surviving what sounds like an absolutely grueling walk!

Back again. Didn't realise until late yesterday that I've got bad sunburn on the back of my shoulders, which was the one place I forgot to put sunscreen.
Ah well, it was all for a good cause, and I'm able to laugh this morning about how awful I felt during it, ha ha.
