Just a reminder: Don't get hung up on the scale!

Hi, friends.
I've been trying hard to "keep the faith" the last few weeks. I've been eating strictly Keto for a month now and haven't lost a full 10 pounds, yet. Several of you have mentioned not to rely on the scale so, this morning, I decided to measure myself again. Wow! FOUR full inches off my waist, 2.5 off my hips, and an inch off each thigh! (My calves, upper arms, and neck stayed about the same.)
Obviously, I'm THRILLED, but I'm posting this here as a reminder to others: If the scale is moving slowly (or not at all) it doesn't mean you're not benefitting from your low carb lifestyle. Keep chuggin' along and make sure you're measuring!

Good for you!!
I tell others, all the time, to not allow the number on that liar of a scale to dictate food choices!
Congratulations on the weight loss you've seen so far too!!3 -
Yaaaaas! MFP just reminded me to step on my scale this morning and I muttered 'eff off' because I know it does not mean anything to me. I am focusing on increasing weight on my lifts and decreasing body fat so really the scale is a poo head.9
-
In 3 weeks I lost 1.5 inches off my belly area, and 2% body fat according to my electronic device, but only 0.2 pounds on my scale.
The scale is only one small piece of the bigger picture.8 -
I was suprised and pleased to see this post this morning. Today is day 26 for me since changing things up with LCHF. Lost 9 lbs the first 10 days and so far as of this morning in at 9.8 lost. Was discouraged Measured this morning so now have something to go by. But. How often do you remeasure?5

Thanks for posting this. I try not to let myself be ruled by the scale, but I'm guilty of letting the numbers affect me far more than they should. I can't seem to not step on it! Even when I know that after Friday's chest/tricep workout (chest is still sore!), Saturday's leg day (yep, SORE) and Sunday's shoulders & abs session (stiffening up a bit as we speak) I probably have a couple of pounds of water weight on me for that all by itself. Still, I get on the scale and feel all disheartened when it says I'm back in the 170's. I don't want to see the 170's anymore! Shoo!8

@JedsMom63 I measured when I first started (mid-July) and then again this morning. So, a month in between. And I know I should have been happy with the 9 pounds I've lost, but I was letting Pinterest/Reddit claims of 20 pounds the first month get the better of me. Never again!7
-
I so wish I could be more like most of you. I really want that scale to move! Another goal to reach I guess....stop habit eating or caring about the scale.

I usually measure on Saturdays as soon as I get up...with vacations and such I have missed a few metrics days.2
-
I measure once a month if I remember hahah. I keep track on my phone and it's nice to see them go down, even slowly for me. I'm not big to begin with and only had like 25 lbs to lose so it wasn't going to be super dramatic for me. I am thankful for a quarter of an inch per month in certain areas!6
-
I do weigh once a week just because. I don't really expect a loss but if it comes, hooray for me! I mainly just go by how my clothes are fitting. Jeans are fitting better and less muffin top so my waist is starting to show after being hidden for the past 4-5 years.

I just started measuring. I really wish I'd started 23 days ago when I started. But at least I'm doing it.6

Thanks for posting this, @CeliaSea. Right on !
I can't help myself and weigh every day - which of course drives me crazy cause cause I want so badly to see a loss.
Scale is very, very slow to move south , but the inches are dropping so I try to stay focused on my changing body and feeling better than I have in years.
Luckily, I had my measurements from having a dress made for my daughter wedding, back in April. (ya, I had to have a dress made . *sigh*)
I added my measurements to my MFP as 'check-in's' and re-measure every 4 weeks. It nice to be able to 'see' the changes

I weigh every morning. If I were prone to scale flux worries, I'd have lost my *kitten* this past week. Just since I started lifting again constantly, I'm up from 150.2 at the start a little over a week ago (while sedentary) to 156.1 as of this morning.3

I'm getting an updated DEXA next Monday. Performance up all the way around, but the scale isn't moving in any appreciable way. I hate the way it makes me guess.1
-
I really needed this today. I'm in the middle of some PMS water retention, and the scale has been creeping up and down and back up again. I've been pretty good so far about not letting it bother me, but I have my moments.3
-
I'm 3wks in and according to the scale, only 6lbs down. I just moved so I don't know where my measuring tape is at the moment but I don't really care. I was wearing size 16 jeans last month, I'm now in a 12. That scale is lying.... I do still check it more often than I probably should just because I'm eager to see the numbers move.9
-
I'm not losing much at all, but I think I'm still having water retention problems (rings that fit me three days ago are now too tight again, as are some of my clothes). It's a chronic problem for me, one that my naturopath is working on with me, with the thought that hormone imbalances are stopping any real weight loss. I doubt that I've lost 5 pounds in two months.
However, my stomach is flatter; last winter I was horrified to see that even if I sucked in my gut, it still pooched out a lot, whereas now if I stand straight, there's almost no bulging. Small steps.7 -
A spot more malicious scale-bashing, for good measure:

Please excuse the bad quality of the photos and the excessive makeup LOL - these were quickly cropped together.
The left picture popped up on my Facebook memories.
The photo on the left is from 2009. I was 21, on a starvation diet, used diet pills that were basically legal speed, and eating less than 1000 calories a day and do boatloads of cardio on the elliptical. My weight was hovering around 128-130lbs at the time.
The photo on the right is from less than 2 weeks ago. I'm 28, weighing in at approximately 142lbs, eating enough to sustain heavy lifting and a generally active lifestyle.
If I told you to guess who weighed more, would you have guessed on the left?
I use this example to illustrate that it does not matter what the scale says/does. Trust the process, take care of yourself, and don't let it determine your worth.

Thank you @samanthaluangphixay! Just what I needed to see today!1 -
Posted to my profile today, but thought I'd share it here too!
The left is 192.4 on 7/20/16. The right is today, 194.0. I have been weightlifting and eating keto. If I didn't have these pictures I'd be going MAD, thinking that what I have been doing isn't working and probably quit, since the scale dropped as low as 189 on 8/6 and has been steadily creeping up! Take pictures!
ETA: I have lost inches all around as well! Measure too!10 -

Wow! @samanthaluangphixay & @Kirstie155 Thanks for sharing those photos, that is really inspiring!
Two of the best posts I've ever seen in a forum like this.5 -
The proof is in the "pudding" or in these 2 cases...lack of! Great visuals.4

The scale lies! After working outside all morning, I came in sweaty & dirty, wearing a filthy pair of size 12 shorts. After a (lovely!) shower, I donned a pair of shorts from the bottom of my drawer that I hadn't thought about in at least two years. I noticed they were a bit more snug than the looser ones that I'd just tossed in the washer. I looked at the tag on the clean shorts and they are a size 10! Woohoo!
As for the scale? It says the same thing it did several days ago. {shrug}5 -
All these posts are AHMAZING! I refuse to let the scale dictate to me! I just found a pair of skinny jeans i bought 3 years ago that were a size 11 in juniors (I was in serious denial of my size lol). I just found them and although they still have a little bit to fit, Im keeping them as my GOAL JEANS5

Always nice to have a goal piece of clothing to keep around. May help you keep motivated!1 -
