Rowing training will be stepping up during this, so will probably make 100 km a week at best. I'm in, if there is an appropriate spot in a team for me.
that's good enough for me... 11
I'm in. Probably about the same miles as the TdF since I'll still be working 72 hour shifts on the weekends.
Always amazed how you can fit 72 hours into 2 day weekends... 12
    I'm in for another tour.

So... Quick update on the current "team standings" re: signups...

Based on the TdF rostas (which may have to change subject to no-shows / new starters etc.)

    Pastana - 8 from 9 signed back up, 1 member non-participant this time - 1 vacancy.

Team Pie - 4 from 9 signed back up, 1 member non-participant this time - 1 definite vacancy, 4 prior riders to be confirmed

Twinkie Scoff - 5 from 9 signed back up, 0 members non-participant at this time - 4 prior riders to be confirmed

Lotta Jumbos - 0 from 9 signed back up, 2 members non-participant this time - 2 definite vacancys, 7 prior riders to be confirmed.

:naughty: Maybe you should ride Solo as team Lotta Jumbo Jason - at least you show some degree of enthusiasm for the challenge.

lol I would but the stats would be mental, week 1 would be pretty low (basic fitness maintenance), week 2 would be total rest leading upto LeJog and week 3 would be through the roof stats wise in the region of 1-200 miles per day.

Next years will be a different beast entirely and I'm taking a year out of doing anything mental with more ride for fun so would fit into a team nicely then, I may even work on my speed as by then I'll be super slim and a racing snake ..... yeh right.

The TDF challenge pretty much passed me by because of some pretty big life upheavals at the moment, all good but I'm just not getting as much saddle time as I would like.

Please put me down for this one, I'll get in as much as I can, in theory I will have more riding time in the future... :)

excellent - we'll need a few details if possible

First off, we need your Strava athlete URL, it'll be something like this...

    https://www.strava.com/athletes/165533

(log into Strava on a desktop machine, click on your avatar at the top right hand side of the screen, and select "my profile" from the pulldown. Then when the page loads, copy the URL into your reply in here...)

From there, we'll organise invites to a couple of Strava "teams", and Jason will be in touch to set you up on CycLeagues to handle the automatic logging.

Can I ask you what kind of distances you're aiming for over the period of the challenge - just to try and balance the teams ??

22 - no worries - ride when you can, to be honest the Vuelta is often a little more "low-key" than the other two challenges - either because it's getting to the end of the season, or because people just have worn themselves out on the Giro and TdF (just like in real life) so it's good to have the regulars on board.

so, we're now on 25 folks - and one newbie with access TBC. that's still 10 places remaining...

that makes a total of 26 - I'm guessing that the newbie decided against entering, a shame, but better now than taking up a place that someone else could have had, or leaving a team one man down from the outset...

we'll be cutting off for signups on friday afternoon some time I think - from the pace of additions recently, I think we're going to run out of time before we run out of spaces - as I say we're currently 26/36

At the moment, if we don't get a full rosta, I'm favouring reduced team sizes - keeping all 4 teams, but running (as it stands now) 6/7 person teams - which WILL make it a tougher challenge to actually complete the overall distance, never mind the day-by-day figures... but, what the hell - we're here because we like a challenge, aren't we ??

    Draft of the spreadsheet's here - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1BvCfeRX_ATq51ryS3pkhihVaQZvTgwgYUyiYtltUrs8/edit?usp=sharing

Jason - I think I've already shared it with you and Clive anyway - so you should both get read/write access...

The Names/Strava Athlete numbers are all in the Rosta Tab, which should be what you need to prepare the filters for the vuelta

    - if we DO get any more additions, then we'll fill up the teams starting with the 6-person teams first - so

Pastana>Pie>Twinkie>Jumbos (though that MAY mean that the Twinkies may get a "token bloke"... all I can say to that is... tough! ;)

and, to anyone who's been moved from one team to another - it's not because we don't like you, or because you left your socks on the team bus and we needed to call in an exterminator a week later... it's just because hardly anybody signed back up from the Jumbo's...

any complaints will be assigned to our customer relations section...

    Good-riddance-to-2014-No-Fault-reform-bills.jpg

as per usual, if you don't like it, feel free to apply for your entry fee refunding... :)

Now the hard work begins (at least for me and Jason...)

    okay folks - update time.

    we've had a bit of a "De-Convenience"...

apparently we can't work it so that we can use a "ghost rider" to fill in all the blank entries in the signup list. Not a terminal problem - it "simply" means that I have to rewrite the "engine room" of the spreadsheet to pick up from a shorter list, and manually set it up so that it ignores the missing riders. And, as this is a reasonably large job (well - it'd not be a big job if I was working on the thing full time and charging for it, but its a good day-shift to fit in amongst my paying work, in the week before a 3 week challenge that I try and clear the decks work-wise for - it means that I'm going to have to "freeze" the signups at the point where I handed the figures over to Jason on Aug12th @ 5:34pm.

So, yes Dave, you are too late, if only you logged in occasionally, participated in the community a little, and thought to join up in the previous fortnight where we'd been open...

So - what's the rewrite going to mean to everyone else...

HOPEFULLY - very little. It should still pick up everyones data properly. The non-riding places will simply be left blank. The only issues that I can't "test" until there's some data in there, is what will happen on the graphs and other automatically created pages like the VAM page etc. So, it's all going to be in a bit of a state of flux for the first few days or so of the Vuelta - looks like I won't get to actually go away from home for a few days as I'd intended to do, because I'm going to need to be there to fix the issues that will arise (I've worked in IT for 30+ years, I know they WILL arise, it's just when, where and what they'll be thats the problem.)

So - we're on fixed teams, as per this list

Yep unfortunately due to 'issues' with the current logic and a frigged export list it's a pain to adjust so we had to freeze the entry list, also sliding in a big hitter late on for balancing the teams would mean everything gets re-jigged.

For those that are late to the ball you can always compete in the 'every man for himself' version in CycLeagues, just select the challenge and see where you are in the leaderboard and cat leagues.

Mark, Are you going to have time to issue Vuelta updates of those wonderful event Dossards? Would love to be pinning one on to temporarily replace my kilt on my MFP profile during the Vuelta as I'm a bit worried the sporran will get caught in the chainset on a long gerbil ride.

yeah - they'll be along real soon now... There's one advantage of organising this thing (yep, pretty much just the one...) and that is I get to pick my own number - i.e. I get to keep 309 - so I can re-use last years number.

In all honesty, it'll probably be friday when they come off the press... I've an appointment tomorrow with the Cardiologist who did the op last year, and I've been told to expect to be there for something a little longer than the typical 1 hour routine check of BP, HR, ECG and a little chat - so I'm thinking I could be there most of the day - unless they find something untoward - in which case, I could be back in and on the slab, and - well - all bets are off at that point.

But, as you may imagine, I'm a little preoccupied today, and not really quite in the mood for anything that needs my undivided attention... so, the numbers, and the mapping may just have to wait...

  • FitterBody

Great. Probably won't need mine immediately as still no sight of a usable wheel, so I may be a late starter in catch up mode from my get go whenever that is. Good luck at the cardiologist.
