Low carb but not keto

Has anyone had success with being low carb, around 100g? I've done keto and find it hard to stick to but I can do 100g or so quite easily. I'm working full time and going to school for time and was going weight watchers but I'm finding it takes to much planning for me to be successful on that when I'm so time crunched. Any help would be appreciated!

I don't track so I never know exactly where I am. I would guess I am in that range. Probably closer to 50-75. I doubt I am keto just based on lack of energy but I have never checked. My blood sugar isn't where I want it, but it is pretty good, a1c of 5.9. I have lost 49 lbs, the first 30 was just diet and exercise, the last 15-20 has been low carb. I find it hard to commit to keto bcuz once in a while i want a roll at dinner or some no sugar added ice cream. I don't know what your goals are but there is definitely benefits to being where you are talking without keto. Hope that helps1

Me. I once tried to do keto and didn't succeed but the low carb worked very well for me. I leave out anything with flour, or sugar, and don't eat pasta, rice or spuds.
This made eating out or visiting people so much easier and making meals for the family was just a matter of not eating the carb-y bits.
I lost 50 pounds and I would like to lose 20 more. I started 18 months ago and I haven't been tempted to quit at all.
For me, the practical element is the most important factor in any diet.
If it's a big struggle I'm going to drop out.
If it fits nicely in my life I can go on indefinitely.10 -
No one has to be Keto to lose! Anything below 150 gm a day is very doable! Finding your range of low carb is the key! Good luck!10

I have failed in trying to keep my carbs under 50 so starting today I will change my goal to 75-100. Hopefully I can get back to tracking and losing instead of just maintaining.4

Yes I agree with @Karlottap , find the range that works for you! Any reduction in carbs from the SAD is a positive direction imo Since I'm diabetic just reducing the things that cause my blood sugar to rise, makes me keto by default But 20 g is difficult for me so I aim for 30-50 net carbs7

Success depends on what your goal is. If your goal is merely weight loss, the quantity of carbs you consume is irrelevant. Creating a calorie deficit is responsible for that - and many people find it much easier to consume fewer calories when their carbs are low and their fat is high (and for many it is so effortless they don't even need to count calories). I've unfortunately had more than one go-round at weight loss. My loss rate is identical on high carb v. low carb. I have to actively count calories in order to lose weight either way.
If your goal is to be in ketosis, 100 grams is probably too high.
If your goal is control of blood glucose, the number is very individual. Mine depends on carbs consumed in a meal - not in a day. As long as my meals are below 20 net, my BG is in control. Depending on when I start eating - and how tightly I want to time it, during a waking period of 16 hours I could theoretically have 160 carbs and still be in control. Typically, I'm around 60-80.
If ability to stick to a way of eating long enough to lose the weight you want is your goal - I think you answered your own question. You apparently are more successful at being able to stick to your resolve eating a higher portion of carbs.5 -
Calories for weight loss.
Macros for satiety.
Macros for health related issues.
Macros for food preference.
Move your body if physically able for general health and well being.
100 grams of carbs may be your ticket to all of the above. Go for it!8 -
I lose a pound a week between 80 to 100, I dont need keto.4

My Doctor told me to try to hit 50 - I thought I would go lower - I don't like it so I haven't been doing well - I'm going to try 50 this week2

I try to limit my carbs to below 100g a day, restrict all sugar and have been successful. I had the most success with Keto; it's true that you do lose weight fast but for me I needed a break after 6 months of very low carb. I have upped my carb limit to 100g and have been doing that for a few weeks now. Losing weight has been slower but allows me a wider range of food obviously, which helps me stick to my plan. LCHF allows me to have one starch a day of my choosing, which is usually at dinner The rest of the day I am following "keto" and limiting carbs.
If I don't really feel like having any carbs then I follow keto for the day.
At the end of the day you have to do what is manageable for YOU. If Keto is working, that's great, follow it! If you find yourself slipping too much and not hitting your goals it's time to change something.6 -
This thread came at a pretty good time for me. I've been trying for 50g total or less and not hitting it. My overall goal right now is to lose a little weight and try to correct my cholesterol. I don't have any insulin/sugar, etc. issues, so I'm not worried about that aspect. I do eat potatoes, but my rice/pasta/sugar intake is low. The potatoes aren't a frequent thing, but I love to have them so I do on occasion.2

My daughter is doing about 100 g of carbs a day or less and she's not seeing much loss on the scale but her jeans have are falling off her butt these days. She's in marching band so she's also gaining muscle in her legs and arms from marching every day carrying a baritone sax (that's the great big sax). She's feeling better overall with joint pain and general fatigue (which is why I wanted her to try low carb).7

I'm doing low carb but not keto. Some days my carbs don't get above 40g but most days I shoot to eat below 75g. Occasionally I allow myself to hit 150. I have already had success in the week I have been doing it. My waist and back are slimmer and I feel so much better. I know that if I get super restrictive like keto requires I will not stick to it. Going down to about 75 or less a day is huge for me. I used to cook a whole box of pasta for dinner and eat every bite so I am cutting probably between 200-500g of carbs out of my diet maybe more.2
