So I did the Idiot Test for You...

I've been Keto since April. I've been very good about keeping carbs low (under 25 grams) every day. I do over eat on my calories on occasion and I've become terrible at logging lately and I'm suddenly very lazy lately and no longer walking. But I've been VERY good about keeping my carbs at under 25 grams a day....until today.
I have a cabinet with nothing in it for me. It has snack cakes for Rowdy, it has cereal for Shayla, it has chips I don't even want to eat. I put all that stuff in the same place so it's not tempting me about the house. I have NO REASON to ever go into that cabinet.
Today I ventured into that cabinet, like an idiot. Moreover, I reviewed the carbs in a prepackaged cupcake and walked away. An hour later I went back. I opened the cupcake with 30 some odd carbs in it and I ate it. The whole entire thing, gone in about 3 bites. What was I thinking, you ask? Oh, I was not thinking.
I've paid a price. Within 30 minutes I was miserable. I was tired, lethargic, headachy, stomach achy, just lousy. So, instead of beating myself up any longer (going on 3 hours now) I decided to make an example of myself and share my new wealth of knowledge with anyone here who hasn't already done this.
Do not eat the carbs. I assure you they will make you feel physically ill. Do not eat the carbs. I assure you that you will beat yourself up. Do not eat the carbs...
This is Donna. Donna ate the carbs. Donna feels like she's dying. Don't be an idiot like Donna.

Thank you Donna!
I didn't pack my lunch today and ran to the grocery store for lunch. Oh my goodness everything off limits was calling to me. It took every ounce of willpower to walk out with only lunch meat and cheddar cheese.0 -
And I hope you feel better soon0

My grandparents took me and my husband out to eat to celebrate us being married for 6 months...my grandma celebrates everything she can. It is sorta sweet. Anyways we went to a Japanese steakhouse and I ate the rice...and the soup...it was good but omg I was so hungry about an hour later. Never again. I do not miss being hungry constantly.0

I have a 'scheduled' off plan day on Wednesday for my cousins birthday. Booked months ago when I was still munching carbs, it's a really expensive (£65) afternoon tea at a very posh restaurant called the ritz.
Afternoon tea is:
Tea
Champagne
Finger sandwiches of 4 different fillings on 4 different breads
Scones
Cake
It's terribly but I wish it wasn't so expensive so I could pretend to be ill and pull out. I don't feel I can not go but I know I'll feel awful after and it will stall my loss. I even contacted the ritz to ask if there was a low carb option I could have but no, only gluten free.
So on weds night this will be me. I just hope I can get right back in the wagon as I intend to stay there!0 -
I wish you so much luck and hope you don't feel what I felt @moonlights.
I'm better now and can I just say there is no way in hell that the taste of the cupcake was worth the misery for over 3 hours...1 -

If you can opt for gf, I would. When I'm off I've found gf products don't cause the same discomfort as wheat products do.0 -
Donna, you're my hero! Thanks for taking one for the team!!6

You know me - a few weeks ago I ate about 300g in sugar. I literally had food poisoning. Don't be an idiot like Leana either! Stay the heck away from the sugar!0

I have been wanting a Boston Cream Doughnut soooooooooooooooo bad but haven't given in. I am not keto though. I am only low carb. I am trying to stay between 50 and 75 so I can still have a sandwich at lunch which is 16 grams of carbs with the bread I use and I can have a starchy side dish with dinner as long as I don't overdo it. Baked potatoes actually fill me up and keep me full...especially when paired with a big juicy steak...lol. I did realize something. Loaded Potato skins aren't bad. 2 of them is only 12 carbs but I will probably eat 3 with my steak tonight and a sandwich planned for lunch. That is only 34 carbs but will be a couple more with the 1 or 2 here and there that is in other stuff. I am having fun with this but the doughnut thing is killing me...lol1

@RowdysLady - While I don't make light of your situation at all, I only wish carbs made me sick. I've had ridiculous level binges with 400-500 grams of carbs 2-3 days in a row (I didn't even track the mess I was the last 2-3 weeks of December last year), and nary a symptom. If they did make me ill, it would be easier to make myself not eat them. In that way, I am jealous of your misery. Carbs love my body, and they love to stick with my body for 20-30 years at a time, and they love to be fruitful and multiply, but my health does not love them... But thanks for sharing your misery as a reminder! I hope you're feeling better by now.4

At a recent bday party I partaked in the cheesecake. It was not pretty...besides the diary affecting me, all the carbs/sugar made me feel weird while I was still eating it. I view it as an experiment I don't want to repeat!1

I have occasionally had days where I ate too many carbs. Not just 30g in a sitting, but 100g-200g or more. It is basically when I have carb cheat days. These foods are sooo delicious - pizza, cookies, cakes, brownies, donuts, etc. But yea, I feel terrible afterwards because I'm fat adapted.
And since I'm a type 1 diabetic and I've become super carb sensitive, my BG's become uncontrollable and through the roof - 400's and 500's despite taking even more insulin than my current bolus ratio (the ratio that is working otherwise with lower carbs) suggests, even when using Symlin to slow absorption (type 1's not only can't make insulin - we can't make amylin either). So yea... I feel terrible, but the foods are so delicious. It sucks, but I have to do that on occasion because I miss the taste of those delicious foods. I'm actually thinking about doing that in another month or so from now.0 -
Thank you for your sacrifice Donna to teach us this lesson. In the past few months I've been trying keto and getting lazy and having snacks and I ALWAYS feel horrible after physically and mentally.0

I also experienced a HORRIBLE reaction when i ate off plan. It was sushi and it felt like a lead ball in my gut. Took like 3 days to feel back to normal. Never again.1
