Cholesterol getting higher

My Total cholesterol in 2014 was 4.65 up to just above 5 in 2015 but still with a good HDL ratio. Today it was 8.56 on my yearly checkup (finger prick strip test). I have been quite strict Keto for the last 8 weeks with a daily calorie intake of about 1600 with approx 40 or less total carbs a day. 60 to 70% fat. Lost 10kg and feeling good but the high cholesterol is bothering me.
Have read theories before that total chol of 5 is a arbitrary number, doesn't correlate with heart disease and also that Keto/low carb decreases vascular endothelial inflammation due to low and stable glucose levels which makes cholesterol plaque formation less likely and a normal value of 5 is no longer relevant.
I'm going for a fasting lipogram when I can and will update with formal numbers.
Any thoughts, personal experiences or relevant data on this topic would be appreciated.

IF you are losing weight, this number is temporarily inflated. TONS of posts here on cholesterol. And testing daily could give different results. SO many factors.
Cholesterol Medication- A discussion of cholesterol which evolved into one of vitamin supplementation. Good info.

This one seems about the only one tagged in the sticky post I could find. Hopefully @RalfLott and @Sunny_Bunny_ and others can link to some of the better ones.
Read the book Cholesterol Clarity for some good info.2 -

Prevent a Heart Attack: Know Your Ratio? The published evidence is quite clear in documenting that the actual total cholesterol level itself is not the most important risk factor of cardiovascular disease.
It is the ratio between the level of HDL-"good" cholesterol and total cholesterol that we need to be concerned about.
And this is related though not cholesterol (i.e. coronary disease):

Any of these what we're looking for?4 -
Yay!! @Baconslave to the rescue. As usual, I might add!1

Fasting lipogram
Glucose 4,5
LDL 6.4 mmol/l
HDL 1.83 mmol/l
Chol/HDL ratio 4.6
Triglycerides 0.3
So HDL nice and high, TG nice and low, LDL way high.
From what I understand I need to do a NMR test and find out why my LDL particle size and number is. The bigger and fewer the better.
Cardiologist is suggesting going onto a statin now.
Apparently significant weightloss can cause elevated levels. I lost about 10kg in the last 9 weeks. Hope it's that. Will test again in 2/52.0 -

Yes, this is true. Better to be retested after you weight has been stable for a while.
