Life line

This forum has quickly become a sort of life line for me. i keep coming back, reading old threads, looking for new ones. i bet i show up here ten plus times a day. For now it helps me sray on track but I'm always looking for more. There are so many videos and studies to read. I've always been a skeptic of foodie claims around health. i still am a skeptic. I need to see the science. To my surprise, the science is there, and it's becoming overwhelming.
I see an obsession coming on. All of my obsessions have been wonderful and long term so this is good news.

Haha ... me too. I come here I learn I contribute. Repeat again. This group is by far the best on MFP4

I know exactly what you mean, I was hooked here for a long time in a good way. It's what I needed to keep me going forward even when I slipped up and regressed back to old ways. I wouldn't be where I am today without this group and the many long term friendships cultivated here. As I've grown and learned I've "needed" the group less and less which makes me sad but kinda happy at the same time, I've learned to apply everything from here on a daily basis and it's just my normal day now.4

Ditto!! This is the only group I belong to on MFP and all of mfp pals are patrons of this group too lol. I love to pop in here and just lurk, like auntstephie321 I've learned a lot and don't need to really be convinced this WOE works anymore after a year of success for me.5

This group pretty much cleared, lit, and provided escorts down the path of getting my *kitten* T2D into remission.
Pure luck finding my way here (but not about to leave).12 -
Aw, gee!2

I so agree. I'm so grateful for those experienced people who share their knowledge so freely. If I had to rely on info from the main boards, I'd never be able to do this.6

Yes! I thought I understood Keto, then I found this group & WOW I have learned SO MUCH. The last time I lost weight I did it without community & it was so much harder & eventually I slid backwards. Grateful to everyone who posts!!5

I 100% agree! It is so nice to have a place to come and discuss our WOE and not feel the eyes glaze over or made to feel we are slowly killing ourselves with our food choices.2

|I don't think I could handle dealing with negative nay-sayers while beginning this WOE. I simply don't have the facts in my brain yet to counter it. I have checked out other places since then and I tend to scurry right back here. I still have a ton of conditioning to undo, and even tho my head can tell me that the research is sound, the emotional response to counter arguments I've heard and consumed my whole life can seem to make sense, even when I know they don't anymore. This place is so welcoming and informative, and can sure point you in the direction of more information so you can get to a place of being able to counter, pffft, bad information. I am so grateful to everyone for making this such a helpful experience.2

One thing to bear in mind, if you can stomach it, is that many folks are so settled in their ways and beliefs that nothing you can say will budge them half an angstrøm.
You can say things like, "it benefits the spleen - pineal gland connection," which should at least leave all but the most obnoxious know-it-alls totally speechless.3 -
I remember a certain Knight in Shining Armour saving me from a whole raft of naysayers who decided I'd be fair game for a target of hostility, and instead welcoming me to this forum...... eh, @RalfLott....?2

Haha, we are a bit shy on naysayers here....
It seems like for every 10 people into whose ears I try to murmur sweet nothings about our group, perhaps seven respond, three actually sign up , and <cough> one, max, becomes a regular contributor.4 -
I think we have a lot of lurkers. Our membership is high so there must be a lot of people reading, learning or disagreeing, and not feeling the need to post.
I'm here just "a little". I find it helps keep me honest and the support is great when 95% of the people you know do not eat anything like you. Makes it easier.5 -
Well hello there and welcome lurker @Shulyn!! Do poke your head into more conversations more often! The more the merrier and all that!!2 -
I was guided here by one of the main forum mods way back when, I want ready at the point then someone from the group found me a few months later, sadly she got banned from the forums a while back
Funny thing I'm not even very low carb most of the time anymore but this group is like family even if it has changed a ton in the last couple years. I'm not as active as I used to be but always try to check in when theres time.0 -
Completely in agreement here. I am thankful for the ever so helpful members. I have learned a bit and still learning. Can I earn some sort of degree here?2
-
I've become OCD about using LCD.....4

Phew! Thought I was alone in this!!! Addicted3

I tend to be a lurker at the minute, I was very active last year but having a few issues that are restricting my LC intake at the minute - but will definitely be jumping back in fully when these are sorted - I love this forum and everyone is just so friendly and helpful3

Yes, this group is certainly a life-line for me. Even when I completely blew off my progress, I still managed to log on to read and read...which eventually jogged my fuzzy brain- reminding me of why I originally chose this path/change/lifestyle. I am very grateful for those who've shared their experiences, opinions, successes, and laughs. Thank you all!
I am slowly warming up to posting more often3 -
I spent the first year after T2D diagnosis struggling to find good quality science based information and made some progress.
Finding this group set me on a path of learning more in the first month than I had in that previous year.
I've been in this group close to 9 months now. I have used info here to help me find rabbit holes on all aspects of health and nutrition. No offense to anyone here, but I don't take anything here as gospel truth but rather use it to guide my research into scientific studies.
I try to share what I learn but don't expect anyone to take my posts as gospel. That is why I post links to so many science journal articles and studies so others can get the information first hand for themselves.
Knowledge is NOT power. Power comes from taking action based on that knowledge.7 -

Ooh, I like that!2 -
hmmm...interesting take on lurkers in the forum. I never thought about that. There are obviously some of us who are regular posters and commenters (you know who you are!). But yeah, I never thought of all those who pop in and never say anything. No reason to be shy here!0

I can be a lurker.. I'm fairly new so "lurking" is a way to get the lay of the land - and then I post when I feel I have something to contribute. Most of the time I feel like I'm too new to contribute much of anything. Also - introverted by nature, so observing is far more comfortable for me. Having said that, I appreciate this forum very much - it's informative, inspiring, and motivating - and sometimes quite funny! So even though I lurk, I am not without my appreciation!5

The amount of information available in this group borders on overwhelming at times. It's interesting that, while I was sort of peripherally aware of this WOE for the last few years, I didn't realize the depth and breadth of research that's gone on in the last decade or so.
Many of us have attached ourselves to some sort of a lifestyle mentor who regularly shares insights and information, and while there are some differences in the application and details, a mammoth amount of information gets aggregated in this community. If your particular guru has missed an important point, there's likely someone around here listening to another really smart and well informed source to bring it to your attention.
I think that's what makes this place so valuable for me, that there's always a skeptic around here. There's always a willingness to check and re-check sources, there's disagreement on some things, but largely, it's done in a respectful way, and generally, where we have disagreements, they're founded on data rather than on opinion. There is no answer that won't be scrutinized. What we've all learned here is that kool-aid is poison whether you're drinking it literally or metaphorically, and that nothing we believe about health, now or tomorrow, should be taken as gospel.7 -
*Lurk* *Lurk*3

@Just_Eric I wish I could take credit for that. I heard that in a training about 15 or 16 years ago and it stuck.1

Well put Eric. I am a thankful member for the informative contributors.1
