None of the current UAC Team members were here when I filled the leadership vacuum of the UAC. The group existed but had been abandoned by its founder. In February of 2016, six months before I took the reins, I had joined as a member. When the founder dropped the group, I sent her a message and asked if she would teach me how to run the group. Fortunately she agreed. I did not want to be the leader. I just wanted an accountability group with the goals of the UAC. I gain weight very easily (diagnosed hypothyroidism) and lose it with great difficulty.
In my career, I have the education and experience to fill a leadership role. With this group, I have neither the education nor the experience to actually lead anyone regarding exercise or nutrition. The UAC is founded on the idea that for a lifetime of successful health, we must exchange our bad habits for good habits.
My motivation to take the lead is my own intense need to be in accountability with a friend(s). You are all very important to my success.
17 years ago on my 50th birthday, I was not fit and weighed 212. With the help of Weight Watchers, I lost 20 lbs. I have been at 189-196 since then. I am not svelte at that weight, but I'm ok with me and my wife.
My fitness routine is what I refer to as "fit for my life." I workout so that I can easily mount a horse; hike in the mountains; and work on the farm.
Lately, with all the great folks who are my UAC team mates, I am sure glad that I picked up the fallen baton.
Your friend, Rick

Exercised?: Yes. Walked 8km in 75 minutes (hills).
Calories?: Yes.
Tracked?: Yes.
@RangerRickL. THANK YOU FOR REVIVING UAC AND KEEPING IT ALIVE!! Hopefully if and when you need to hand over the reins one of the current members will keep it going. Too good an idea to let fade into the digital oblivion.
I am yet to hit 50 (not far away as I hit 49 late last month). When I found I had topped 200 (91.5kg) Jan 1, it was time to do something about it. Was 170 (77.4kg) this morning, but still more to do (at 5'9" (175cm) I am still in the overweight BMI - 168 (76.4kg) I drop into the normal range ). When I hit 165 (75.0kg) then I'll work out whether I should maintain or keep going.
@Sandera2. Yes!!! You now know what the group is all about. Having an outside source to be accountable to. Makes you think about what you are doing.
@am_change. Bread is very calorie dense (and not very filling). It also has an easy path of converting to the blood sugar (low soluble fibre). Hardest thing is that it is so convenient and easy substitutes are not readily available (not to mention it tastes good). Best of luck. (Wrote a post in "What's on your mind today?" about Food addiction psychology. May be worth a read.)
@FAR_from_FAT. You are quite fine in setting your own calorie targets per day. No explanation necessary. Well done for staying inside limits.
@zorrocat. Rock those planks. Great for the core.
@Gus130. Thank you for your honesty. This is worth more than anything else. Without it progress cannot be made.8 -
Date: 2 July
Exercised?: Yes. 20 minutes walking on a treadmill. I managed to run 4 mins of the walk which is exciting I used to run a lot but had an injury so I'm starting off little by little. With consistency though I'll go far!
Also went bowling8 -

Lol I was here when you took the reigns Rick but back then all I said was Yes x39 -
I am so glad you took over this group Rick. In the 3 months since I've joined the group I've lost over 7kg and got to goal and I know that with the UAC group I can get maintenance sussed. I've also gone from a very newbie runner to running 5k in under 30 minutes this morning. It's so motivating knowing that there is this whole group backing you and wanting you to do well.
Exercise: Yes, 30 minute run plus lots of gardening and housework.
Tracking and calories: Yes and yes.9 -
Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes?
Yes, I went for a 45 minute brisk walk with my puppy.
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day?
I actually made a conscious effort to eat some of my extra carb calories at the end of the day so I don't start tomorrow hungry. But yes.
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank?
yes!8 -

@PaisleyFlower. I assume Calories and tracking are also yes. Little by little. Build up. No rush. Do not re-injure yourself.

Logging? YES everything. I love the MFP database and barcode scanner!
I have roughly 50lbs to loose but have decided to break that down in to stages that I find less daunting so I'm trying to get down to 85kg by July 31st -a loss of 1.8kg. I think it'll be difficult because of my holiday but that is my next goal.
Bye for now and good luck to you all7 -

Today's been hard. When I'm tired I can confuse it with hunger and get cravings to help boost energy. Last night my daughter woke up crying multiple times due to teething. Because she was tired too she's been so grumpy today. Today's one of those days where much as I love her, I'm almost thankful I'll be going to work tomorrow for a break! I've managed to get to the end of the day without giving in to temptation (I'd love a big bar of chocolate!). I'm thinking about going to bed already at 8pm. Hope everyone else has had energetic fun filled days!
@2020pinktogo thrilled you're trying yourself for once!7 -

I walked to the bike hire place with my daughter, then got back in the car and left her to it,
later I got brave
I actually got on the bike, I also walked a bit with the bike, .... its the first time in years (and you never forget how to go a bike ) ... any bikers here want to give me a lesson in using gears (showing how long since I've used one, my old bike was never so complicated lol) .. I struggled up every hill and had to hit the breaks down every hill when I tried to drop a gear the chain would slip until I put the gear back up again .. so I just left it where it was. No clue what I am doing!
also done some house work etc .. but I think the bike certainly burned way more cals than I was given .. I was exhausted lol ..
oh and to top off my day .. my hubby got a little of the bike bug because I got on the bike, he also had a turn ... I should have taken pics .. its a pink bike lol and he didn't care .. it almost killed him off as well ha

Took the dogs out for a 4 hour walk today, cross country, mixed terrain. Walk was brisk, but then my dogs only know one pace and I feel it's them talking me for a walk not the other way round, lol.
Crazy busy with chores today too, so I've been on the go most of the day so plenty of exercise all round I think.
Logged my calories and tracked everything I eat and drank and well within my budget for the day.
xx

Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes, I did 33 minutes on the bike, with 5 minutes of stretching, and day 2 of my 2 challenges. These are very easy so far, (early days) but I see at the end of the arm challenge, I'll be doing 150 tricep dips, which I hate. But I shall persevere.

Exercised?: Yes. Went exploring and found what started out as a great costal path (I live right on the river Mersey). Ended up being a boggy trench where I got stuck and lost a shoe... the OH had to go rescue it. 9.5km/2 hours. Would have been much quicker if not for the boggyness!
Calories: 1489/1490kcl... Cutting it fine!

@Slimpossible007 My best bike advice now remember I am 50 . Seats really do matter. Those slim seats are just as bad as thong underwear. Go for comfort I am petite so I can get away with riding a kids bike I only use the first 3 speeds . A lot of kids bikes have less gears and my favorites have peddle brakes. Seats are interchangeable so don't be shy to ask if they have a big comfy seat. My nephews still laugh about me riding with them. They tell people it had a lawn mower seat. Lol It was very cushy they were just jealous.7 -
Exercise, Yes Sunday walk with my three daughters
Tracked, yes

Thank you, @RangerRickL, for everything that you do!!
Skip Day #1; I hate to take one so soon, but I was at a friend's house for her birthday. We walked a lot, swam, and played several active games. However, we munched all day rather than sitting down for big meals, so I decided not to track and simply focus on being with many of the people that I love.10 -

@slimpossible2007 welcome back to cycling! Cardio minutes fly by on a bike.
Tomorrow is all day at Cleveland Clinic heart center. A procedure for my husband. We know the routine because he had open heart surgery there but it is still stressful. During tests and procedures I walk and climb stairs. I know every staircase in the J building!7 -

Three happy yeses today!
Having such an active and supportive group to account with every day is no doubt making a difference for me. Thank you all!
This was a great day filled with quality time spent with those I love-my family. Took a 2 mile walk with my sister and daughter this morning. The weather was humid, but an occasional northern breeze kept us all refreshed. All in all it took us about an hour to complete. Meals/morsels were highly nutritious and wonderfully satisfying too. A truly great day.
Hoping you're all feeling strong today! Keep going.8 -
Exercise: Yes, 35 minutes of yoga. Realized I need to increase my flexibility to stave off injuries.
Tracking: Yes.
Calories: Yes, but the second day in a row that I've missed lunch due to errands and not wanting to eat fast food. I need to work on that and pack me an emergency meal kit.
Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend.6
