For anyone wanting ammo for people telling them LCHF will give them high cholesterol and/or triglycerides, here are my latest lab results, taken last week. I have been LCHF for almost one year and I've lost 53.5 lbs.
Total Cholesterol-165
HDL-71
LDL-81
Ratio-2.3
Triglycerides-63
My weight at the time of my lab draw was 121 lbs. I had a finger stick at work, this spring, and my numbers were already good, but they all improved in just a few months, with 10 lbs. lost in-between labs. My numbers from this spring are below.
Total Cholesterol-187
HDL-66
LDL-106
Ratio-2.8
Triglycerides-74
I'm most impressed with my increase in HDL and decrease in LDL. Eat that bacon and steak and slather every thing in butter. This WOE works!

I've always gone by the numbers, a hyperlipidemic 54 yo. Male sw. 264 cw. 233 gw.180. I have been Keto and low carb for 16 months so I just wanted to share my numbers from the past 7 months. I have tried to inform folks about this woe but I'm fine if they don't get it. No I did not lose 25lbs. in the first 8 weeks, it's a lifestyle from upside down and inside out.

You might consider a Coronary Artery Calcium CT scan and scoring, which will show actual calcified plaque. They are only $100 in my neck of the woods and you can get one without a doctor's order.3 -

I got mine results from last week and the doctor spent an hour with me with half of that time being my lab results. High B-12 and Vitamin D levels concerned her. D levels came back 155 ng. I do not have my results in hand but I know I have a lot of research to do soon.
Saturday for some reason I looked at new Subarus in Clarksville TN. Before I left to come back to KY I checked out the internet and found a 2010 Subaru Forester by a guy south of Nashville a ways and we did a deal. Went back late Monday and picked it up and the doctor appointment was yesterday and I took off today to do some detail cleaning on the Subaru but will get back to my health soon.
Vit D was 77ng last May which was down from my last labs because I had cut down to only 5,000 IU daily. She wants me to be more in the 60-80 ng range on D. Sky high D did cut my pain levels even more. Out to the car detailing now. Actually I did this 2 years ago with the son's 'new' 2002 Ram 1500 and it like to have killed me pain wise. I detailed to 11 PM yesterday and am fine after a good nights sleep even after 5 days of high stress due to a lot of driving and stresses that come with buying old used vehicles from far away strangers.
I have several LOW results to check out too. Funny my weight from one year ago my weight was the same to the oz. This time I left my pockets loaded before going in so net I was down a pound or two. The staff was impressed I was maintaining my 50 pound loss from the winter off 2014-2015.5 -

@GaleHawkins - My vitamin D this time was 147. My doc freaked out too, but recently, I was told that optimal D is 100-150, as per the Vitamin D Council's website. I have not verified it yet, but I know when I switched to a lower dosage with a different K2 (Jarrow instead of my preferred LE Super K Plus), I could FEEL the difference, instantly. So I'm not overly worried about it right now.
My B12 was also stupid high, but I got a B12 shot at a wellness event at work. But I can tell you that whatever version of B12 it was (they told me it was a different type than you take orally), my body cannot use it worth squat. I still get a nerve spot in my thumb when I'm back on Glucophage enough to make a difference, and B12 is literally the only thing that will make it go away. So I lowered my dosage, but everything I've found shows that excess B12 is only an issue when Folate is low, and mine wasn't, so B12 will level out eventually on it's own...
I do have a number of things to address with my hopefully new PCP this afternoon at my initial appointment, so it should be interesting. I'm sorry for all your stress and drama. HUGE congrats on the maintained weight loss! Good luck digging in further on the "low" numbers...1 -
@GaleHawkins - Any well-established downside to high Vitamin D levels?
I recall only potential hypercalcemia and decreased melatonin production as possible side effects when deciding how much to take, and I don't believe Vitamin K figured into those discussions at all....1 -

Addressing both of you more or less from what I can read toxicity may be in the 150-200 ng range but there are zero human trials that I can find on the subject but some n=1 stuff.
One guy from Iran I think had a reading of 1300+ ng after 10 years of getting an IM shot of 300,000 IU of Vit D weekly but he did recover and was a body builder I think. I had been doing 50K IU daily starting about a month before my blood work and the last two weeks I bumped it to 100K daily knowing the lab was coming up. I had stopped taking D3 since that lab.
Mega dosage did cut my remaining pain a tad and enhanced my walking speed but it did make me somewhat lethargic.
My goal was to see if I could get to 150 ng. When she told me I tested out at 155 ng I said Awesome and she said WHY. I said I just wanted to know how it made me feel.
We are going to retest in Jan to find my D and B12 levels. I am guessing I am one of the few that even attempt to improve levels. Something that I had not noticed was how many old guys leave the clinic and before they start their vehicles they start smoking.
No one said anything about me getting a flu shot for the first time ever and I now wish I had asked if the VA was no longer pushing them.
I was less hungry and lost a few pounds as I had read on Mega D3. I read there are many genes with Vit D receptors so I wanted to hit them hard with D. I was doing Mega K2 MK7 at the same time and still am doing that since my D level is so high.
While I was with the nurse a long time I was actually talking with the MD for one full hour. They do have some awesome graphing software for lab results. The VA has been studying D3 usage in trials and to patients. She was aware there was a role for K2. It seems the VA still is trying to protect bone loss mainly with D3. At least she saw one old man with Vit D at 155 ng and was still walking around. If I could just set myself at 75-80 ng I would be OK with that level. Some say a person can be Vit D resistant so maybe I got that behind me.
Vit D like other things is still mainly a dark swamp filled with fear and unknowns.

@KnitOrMiss - I deal with low Vitamin D levels and need to supplement to stay in range so your post interested me. It prompted me to check out the Vitamin D Council's website. This is what I found - "...50ng/ml is the ideal level to aim for."
https://www.vitamindcouncil.org/about-vitamin-d/testing-for-vitamin-d/
I don't know the potential implications of having a level that is double-triple the "ideal level" or whether others agree that this is indeed ideal.
Have you found other sources (particularly scientific studies) that support the benefits of such a high level of Vitamin D?0 -

@bametels this below study taking 35,000 IU daily for 6 months helps me know D levels of 200 ng seemed to be safe for these 35 people.

A pilot study assessing the effect of prolonged administration of high daily doses of vitamin D on the clinical course of vitiligo and psoriasis
Vit D medical use of D3 is still in a dark swamp of unknowns and fears. The relationship between D3, Magnesium and Vit K2 are critical to understand in the least and to be monitored by blood lab results until the science about high dosage D3 becomes known.
Disease prevention and clearing all blockage of arteries is of interest to make my goal to live to be 110 walking and talking the entire way.0 -
@GaleHawkins - New PCP wondered about high vit D, but then she saw my CAC scoring of Zero, and my "normal" Dexa scan I just had done, and she was happy accepting that lowering it much wasn't of concern. I guess the biggest risk of high vitamin D is high calcium, because high D means more calcium is absorbed, but with the K2, it's getting where it needs to go, magnesium and potassium are making sure it gets in properly, and boron and zinc are helping keep it there... My internal bone pain has finally seemed to have stopped with doubling the boron dose...
EDITED TO ADD: I'm going to step back a little on my dosing, especially now that I'm taking iron/diagnosed anemic, and seeing if the two are tied together somehow as far as energy. I'm quite comfortable with getting a level closer to 100, but I don't want to go much below it, because for thyroid health, you need to be in the upper part of the range - and because around 60, I still feel deficient.
I'm still trying to understand the DEXA report, because I'm not a big fan of "you're normal" as a test result...I don't want to be normal, I want to be optimal, and this thing is like reading Greek when you're Roman!
She expressed no concern about the B12 or cholesterol issues, but made a lot of notes and asked questions about blood sugars... ?? So shall see there.
But we're running a number of inflammation tests now apparently, since my ESR and CRP were high at the end of July. Fun.0 -
I think seeing Vit D readings in the 100-200 ng levels when they were taught 30 ng is good as it gets may mess with the mind. Like levels changing our gene functions could be for the better or for the worse.
The science just does not clearly tell us the full Vit D story yet.
My doctor was most concerned about high B12 it seemed to me since I knew to add K2 and magnesium supplements.0 -
Also, taking vitamin A 12 hours offset from Vitamin D can help prevent toxicity...
And my doc told me that as long as Folate wasn't deficient that B12 would level out as long as I was taking a B-Complex, else high B12 can deplete other B vitamins.0 -

If you are in the Dallas area, there is a place in McKinney that does this for $45. Well worth the investment, IMO. I did have a higher score than I would like, although not super high. This wasn't a surprise because prior to going low carb, every time I got cholesterol checked, I was told I had high triglycerides. Since going low carb, I have not had TG above 60 with the last one at 48.
The key for this test is to see change over time. I will be going back next year and if the score is no more than 10% higher (although I would prefer it not be at all higher), then there is almost no risk.1 -

@RalfLott - Frankly, after the many decades of abuse I've done myself, I was quite shocked to have positive results like that! I'm still not quite sure what it all means. I know that -1.0 is supposed to be something of concern, and one of my numbers was -0.9, but I honestly can't find anywhere that tells me what the heck any of it means!0
