Non Scale Victories

Hey guys! I thought it might be fun to start a thread about some of our NSV. It can be really daunting to always be focused on that number on the scale and there are so many great things that happen on our way down from 350+!
I had my best NSV so far today. I walk 3 miles just about every day and it usually takes me about an hour and ten minutes. Today, I really pushed myself. I didn't let myself check my time until I was done. Guys, I did it in 45 minutes. I've been on cloud 9 since. I really dig deep and worked hard and I cannot believe that I could make that time at 295 pounds! It felt great too! I never felt like I was going to give out, it didn't hurt, and I'm not even sore from it. I just feel awesome and so proud of myself! Living an active lifestyle is my number one goal.

Great idea for a thread!! Congratulations! That’s really great time!
My NSV is getting up to 25 minutes on the elliptical today! A couple of weeks ago I struggled to get to 10 minutes and I’ve been adding a couple of minutes every day. I’m hoping to get to thirty minutes and then start upping the difficulty level.7 -
my biggest NSV this week is Not giving in and eating the candy bar that I so desperately wanted, instead I exercised and refocused as to why I am doing this. When I started my journey i was almost 500 pounds, so I know I have come along way, and have a long way to go. Even these small victories help tremendously in the long run6

Had to come back because I can update my NSV!!

@Keeblerelfkin that’s so great! My biggest struggle is impulsively reaching for food when I’m bored or stressed. My brain tells me “just this once” and every other excuse to not stay the course. It is absolutely an NSV each and every time we choose to not give in. Happy Friday, friends!1

This may sound a little silly but since I just started on Monday, I don't have ""bigger" victories just yet. But in the last few days of eating healthy, my skin has cleared up and I have been sleeping wonderfully, which lately, I had not been. I am attributing that to my healthier eating because nothing else has changed in the past 5 days. Hopefully I will be able to share something more exciting in the next few weeks! Crazykatlady: 45 minutes is awesome! Your body is definitely responding to your hard work! Mellykay: very cool! You blew right past 30 minutes! Keeblerelfkin: that's great- my mom always says "I won't be able to still taste the candy bar in an hour, but the scale will remind me!"6

What a great thread as I think there are lots of awesome lifestyle changes that aren't related to the scale that should be celebrated. I think mine would be giving up regular soda. I didn't realize how much I was drinking until I stopped and how much I really craved it daily which I wouldn't have guessed. I also love to cook but with my fatigue, I was eating a lot of fast food and take out and I've tried to commit to cooking more which I've done a good job on. I've ad a couple of days where I've gotten take out but I've cut it down and have made some super delicious meals.
I hope to get back to the gym soon once I'm feeling a bit better so hopefully that will be my next large NSV so I can join all you awesome ladies in your workouts.4 -
I love this thread! It's really fun to read everyone's progress.
One of my favorite NSV's has been MONEY. I was spending ungodly amounts of money on food and I didn't even realize how much it added up. I would spend $10 on breakfast in the coffeeshop at work, then turn around and spend $10 on lunch in the cafeteria, and then come home where I would order delivery for $30 to $60. Then I would wonder why I was so broke! It's been really nice to have money in the bank...10 -
@Mellykay88 That's so awesome! And inspiring! Fitness, being active, and celebrating the things my body can do are my biggest motivator! I also like to try to add time little by little. It's a great way to challenge myself.0

@CheezWhiz88 Sleeping better was one of the first things that started changing for me too! And sleeping better means more energy and a better mood for me, so it's a positive force when it comes to staying the course of other healthy lifestyle and habit changes. Your victories (scale and non) are going to start piling up!1

@rabidhamster87 Though we didn't eat out very often I have noticed that the groceries I buy last longer because I'm not overeating or binge eating stuff. Our pantry and fridge were usually pretty bare after a week to a week and a half, but now it lasts 2-3 weeks. So, that is definitely saving us some money!4

I have dropped the amount of insulin I have to take by 8 units over the last month and a half. It is the first time since I was diagnosed with diabetes that I have gone DOWN rather than up in dosage.10

My non scale victories lately are modest but huge for me. I'm walking around the apartment complex, which is literally just a half mile, but wasn't possible a few months ago. Feels good10
-
@alevans4 that is awesome! Those victories which seem modest add up to something HUGE over time!
@rabidhamster87 I used to spend so much money on breakfast and lunch! Somehow I still don’t have extra money... I’m guessing that money I was spending on food is now getting spent on clothes. Lol!4 -
Same shirt! September 25th vs. Today!

@Mellykay88 Wow!! You can really see how much looser the shirt is now!! That's got to be the best feeling!!
On a related note, I came into this thread because I have a new NSV to share! I've only lost 30 lbs so far out of the 230 I'm ultimately shooting for, so I didn't expect there to be any noticeable changes yet, but I noticed today at work that I can button up my lab coat all the way!! Y'all!! I'm so ashamed because I was in the largest size we keep (XXXL) and I couldn't even button it up!! But today I did! And THEN I sat down and it didn't come unsnapped!! One small step back towards "normal."9 -

@Mellykay88 ( i hope I've done that right hunny-I have never tagged anyone ) that shirt looks looser - well done.
Mine is at 350 lbs the seat belt in ex husbands car and in my parents car barley fitted round me in my coat. Now with the same coat at 318 ish lbs it has a tiny bit of room - so I can breath in the car too xxxx5 -
@jules81 you got it
Seat belts fit me so much better now too! I always used to dread getting into unfamiliar cars because sometimes the seat belts just didn’t fit! Now I don’t worry so much! I’m ready to fly without worrying about that belt!3 -
So did I hunny ; ( I am a LONG way off flying. But it's great you are ready to hunny xxx0

This is such a great one! I inherited my dad's truck when he passed away and omg. I have to suck in my gut and really PULL to get that seat belt on when I drive it. My SO is always sitting there looking at me like, "Are you okay?"0 -
I love all of these non scale victories so much! It's inspiring to read them all0

Treadmill burn this morning! I know those calorie counts are inflated, but still proud of myself!
Edited to add: this is a victory for me as this time last year I struggle to keep up with a treadmill at a 2.0 pace... today I stayed steady on 3.3 - 3.4 with 3.0 incline intervals!9 -
@mellykay88 hunny THAT is fab 65 mins on there.YOU should be super proud of yourself . I've got an exercise bike. YOU have motivated me to try 5 mins I know 5 mins isn't going to do anything BUT it's more than I did yesterday xxxx2

jules81:
5 minutes will do more than you think if you are starting out. i I find it amazing how quickly our bodies respond to exercise and before you know it, you will be able to crank out a nice long ride for yourself!1 -
@jules81 we all have to start somewhere! You’ll be surprised at how quickly that 5 minutes will turn into 30!2

If you do 5 minutes 6 times in a day, you've done 30 minutes. I do a lot of my walking like this. I work a desk job and multiple times a day I get up from the desk, go outside and walk for a short period of time. Staring down a 30-40 minute walk is daunting for me at my weight, but three or four ten minute walks-I can do that. When I started it was 5 minute walks and those were hard. Now I can walk longer and farther. Just start.8 -
Just had a NSV today! When I first started using my new mini stepper about a couple weeks ago, my quads were burning so bad but I kept at it and today I felt myself able to step faster and my legs are feeling stronger!6

@Ayehmwhy that’s awesome!!1

I am new to the group; just crashed the party yesterday! So thanks for having me! I have been swimming regularly over the past several months and have been losing inches. The scale is just starting to move now and I feel so great. I think I have many NSV to talk about such as clothes being looser, fitting better in the seats at the arena, feeling better, others noticing the changes etc. But I think my biggest NSV is that I have so much energy now. I want to work out and go for walks. I love being at the pool and miss it when I can't make it. I have added a pound class and daily walks to my week in addition to the three nights of aquafit and none of those activities seem daunting. I know it will sound corny, but I feel like I can do anything!!! I walk faster, I don't get out of breath as easy etc. And I don't crave crappy food! Sorry for the craziness of my answer, but for the first time in my life, I feel like I can win this battle. I know it won't be easy, but I know that I can win. That is pretty exciting!!!8
