Non Scale Victories

Hey guys! I thought it might be fun to start a thread about some of our NSV. It can be really daunting to always be focused on that number on the scale and there are so many great things that happen on our way down from 350+!

I had my best NSV so far today. I walk 3 miles just about every day and it usually takes me about an hour and ten minutes. Today, I really pushed myself. I didn't let myself check my time until I was done. Guys, I did it in 45 minutes. I've been on cloud 9 since. I really dig deep and worked hard and I cannot believe that I could make that time at 295 pounds! It felt great too! I never felt like I was going to give out, it didn't hurt, and I'm not even sore from it. I just feel awesome and so proud of myself! Living an active lifestyle is my number one goal.

    @Keeblerelfkin that’s so great! My biggest struggle is impulsively reaching for food when I’m bored or stressed. My brain tells me “just this once” and every other excuse to not stay the course. It is absolutely an NSV each and every time we choose to not give in. Happy Friday, friends!

    What a great thread as I think there are lots of awesome lifestyle changes that aren't related to the scale that should be celebrated. I think mine would be giving up regular soda. I didn't realize how much I was drinking until I stopped and how much I really craved it daily which I wouldn't have guessed. I also love to cook but with my fatigue, I was eating a lot of fast food and take out and I've tried to commit to cooking more which I've done a good job on. I've ad a couple of days where I've gotten take out but I've cut it down and have made some super delicious meals.

    I hope to get back to the gym soon once I'm feeling a bit better so hopefully that will be my next large NSV so I can join all you awesome ladies in your workouts.

    @Mellykay88 That's so awesome! And inspiring! Fitness, being active, and celebrating the things my body can do are my biggest motivator! I also like to try to add time little by little. It's a great way to challenge myself.

    @CheezWhiz88 Sleeping better was one of the first things that started changing for me too! And sleeping better means more energy and a better mood for me, so it's a positive force when it comes to staying the course of other healthy lifestyle and habit changes. Your victories (scale and non) are going to start piling up!

    @rabidhamster87 Though we didn't eat out very often I have noticed that the groceries I buy last longer because I'm not overeating or binge eating stuff. Our pantry and fridge were usually pretty bare after a week to a week and a half, but now it lasts 2-3 weeks. So, that is definitely saving us some money!

    @alevans4 that is awesome! Those victories which seem modest add up to something HUGE over time!

    @rabidhamster87 I used to spend so much money on breakfast and lunch! Somehow I still don’t have extra money... I’m guessing that money I was spending on food is now getting spent on clothes. Lol!

    On a related note, I came into this thread because I have a new NSV to share! I've only lost 30 lbs so far out of the 230 I'm ultimately shooting for, so I didn't expect there to be any noticeable changes yet, but I noticed today at work that I can button up my lab coat all the way!! Y'all!! I'm so ashamed because I was in the largest size we keep (XXXL) and I couldn't even button it up!! But today I did! And THEN I sat down and it didn't come unsnapped!! One small step back towards "normal."
    Best thing I've read today :smile:

    @jules81 you got it :smiley:

    Seat belts fit me so much better now too! I always used to dread getting into unfamiliar cars because sometimes the seat belts just didn’t fit! Now I don’t worry so much! I’m ready to fly without worrying about that belt!

    Mine is at 350 lbs the seat belt in ex husbands car and in my parents car barley fitted round me in my coat. Now with the same coat at 318 ish lbs it has a tiny bit of room - so I can breath in the car too ;) xxxx

    This is such a great one! I inherited my dad's truck when he passed away and omg. I have to suck in my gut and really PULL to get that seat belt on when I drive it. My SO is always sitting there looking at me like, "Are you okay?"

    5 minutes will do more than you think if you are starting out. i I find it amazing how quickly our bodies respond to exercise and before you know it, you will be able to crank out a nice long ride for yourself!

    @jules81 we all have to start somewhere! You’ll be surprised at how quickly that 5 minutes will turn into 30!
