Well. I thought I would share with you all They found a 2” tumor on my pancreas. Adenocarcinoma. Early stages. Does not appear to be in liver or lymph nodes. I have referrals to go to UCI medical center cancer center for treatment and surgery. Not sure what is going to happen but trying to stay positive. Thanks.

Yikes! That is scary news. The uncertainty has to be very unsettling.0

Wow, that is a scary diagnosis. I'm glad you are going to a great place UCI is a great place. I went there in 1997 for some genetic testing when I was pregnant with my first child due to some family history. They where so nice and helpful. Thank you for sharing with us.1

Any updates?1

Just had ct done yesterday. Have follow up with surgeon and oncology next week, unless they move me up. Just wait for results and go from there. Looking like I will be able to have the Whipple procedure.2
-
The Whipple seems to be common enough. It is like knee replacement I think. They have done them for a long time and have it figured out. Blessings...0

Sorry to hear this, hang in there1

My MIL just went through the whipple procedure. They're getting it down to an art form now. I wish you the best.1 -
Off for chest ct tomorrow. Tumor is pressing on veina cava so have to have chemo and radiation first.2
-
Told today I am not candidate for surgery “at this time” because of where tumor is pressing on blood vessels. Told I have to have biopsy on 2 lesions found on my liver before can start chemo, May be able to get into a clinical trial. Will know more Thursday.0

It sounds as if they are still sorting out exactly what is going on. There is a lot of uncertainty and waiting for you in all this.0

Waiting is hard.
My MIL had an inoperable tumor on her pancreas, due to its location. She treated herself gently, and went through the chemo. The tumor shrunk and she had the whipple procedure. As of now, they can't find any more tumors.
And this is after they had her wait a month or so to start any treatment. Hang in there.1 -
Thank you all. Met with oncology today. Am scheduling to start chemo in two weeks. Have to schedule biopsy tomorrow and depending on what it shows will determine next step.2

Good luck!1

Update: did not start chemo as scheduled. A clinical trial opened up that same morning that my dr wants me to be in and do going through screening now. If all goes as planned we will start first week of July. Right now tumor is still localized and I am feeling good, except for a brief but painful bout of pancreatitis last week1

Sounds like your doctor is really looking out for you.2

Localized and feeling good is a plus. Boo on the pancreatitis though...1

UPDATE: I wasn’t able to get into the clinical trial after all (I was out of the diagnosis window, had to be within 6 weeks). Started gemzar/abraxine today. 3wk on 1 wk off. Once a week. Let’s get this.1

You have this. We will be thinking about you and looking for updates.1

So one downside I found. Apparently the steroid has a bad effect on bs. I jumped to 238 after treatment and 303 before dinner. Bedtime reading is 300. Hoping things go back to normal in a day or so. But something to look for on future treatment days0
-
I have heard that steroids do that but have no experience. It would be interesting to know how long it takes to get back to normal.1

My experience with steroid shots for my knee was that it was very elevated for about two days, and slightly elevated for a month. Since the cause is that it prevents insulin from working as well, it unfortunately doesn't work well to take more meds - nothing much to do but ride it out.1

Pretty much what I’ve been told by various people as well Rhedd.

Got blood test results. A1C went up from 6.4 to 6.9. My TSH is high at 5.86, T-4 is 1.3. All other levels are in normal range0

Back from vacation. Hair started falling out on day 2 of cruise. Still have it just getting very thin. Started course 2 of chemo today so I know my bs will be very high for the next few days. Woke up from nap and already at 280 at 6pm. I downed 2 glasses of water and did 10 min on bike and too 3 units of fast acting insulin. Any other suggestions on what to do to lower bs? Dr wants me to increase my levemir to 15-18 before bed.1
