@Mellykay88 hopefully, your Dr. will recommend that you take iron, before doing more serious tests. I hope you get to feeling better.

@PloddingTurtle That's a tough one, ...losing your dad. I'm glad you plan to honor him in your walks and in writing down your thoughts about him afterward.

@bmeadows380 You sure are going through a hard time. I understand your frustration with how you've been feeling. You try hard to do lots of things, and now, it's just so difficult with your lack of energy and your brain fog always staying around. Hang in there and ride it and hopefully soon, it will change for the better.

I've missed y'all. I've been away b/c I just couldn't cope or deal with hardly anything. It got real rough, but, I think I have a better handle on it now. I have PTSD and DID (used to be called MPD--multiple personality disorder). Both of them are from lots of physical and sexual abuse. It's hard on me dealing with stress & triggers, among other things.

I was going to the gym 4-5 X week, logging all my food, drinks. exercise, and going to some Dr. appointments all grouped in a couple of months. It got the best of me and I feel hard. Lots of times. just logging my food, drinks and going to the gym some gets me majorly stressed out after a while were I can't function well. I know it doesn't sound like much to y'all, but, it's a lot for me to deal with and function in life.

Tomorrow, I go back to the hospital for a couple of days for medical things.

Just know that I miss y'all and I'll be back when I am able, after I heal up.

Hi guys! I wanted to check in with you all. I’m finally getting back on track after taking a bit of a maintenance break over the past few weeks. I’m feeling a lot better after adding an iron supplement. I’m going back to the gym tomorrow! Work has been brutal the past few weeks. We are down two therapists at the drug and alcohol treatment center I work at, so I am doing double duty with a full therapy case load plus training duties.

I do have an NSV though. Last week I was out of town at a training for our crisis management program. I was training to be an instructor and this program requires physical skills in addition to verbal de-escalation skills. One requirement was that we go down on one knee and stand up without using any hands. Guess who was able to do it without any problem? ME!! No way I could have done that this time last year.

I made it through my surgery and I'm at home resting. I was just reading some of y'all's working out ideas and issues. Keep all the great weight loss and exercise going! We can do this!

@Mellykay88 So glad that the iron supplements are helping you out!! That's definitely good news! I hope work evens out when more therapists are there. Big Congrats on going down on one knee, and making it back up and standing---with no hands or arms used!!!!!!

    My Starting Weight/date: 335 lbs on Feb.12, 2018
My initial "big" goal: 235 (will revisit goals when I get there)
    First Milestone goal: 299 lbs
NSV milestone goal: record a consistent 10,000 steps a day

    Current Weight: 313.3 lb
Loss this week: -3.2 lb (since last Friday's weigh-in)
Total loss: -21.7 lb (hooray, me!)

What's working: Meal planning and advance meal prepping.

What needs work: Upping my physical activity. Working on it.

My initial reaction this morning was disappointment. I thought I'd only lost 0.9 lbs this week until I remembered I did a second weigh-in this past week (on Monday for the weight-loss challenge). Turns out I dropped -3.2 lbs since my last update here a week ago. I had so much trouble getting the scale to register any movement in the first 4-5 weeks, so this feels so invigorating.

    @bigghunny - yes!

    Update for me:
I've have been doing so good and yet so bad at the same time. Hubby and I have really tried incorporating more movement into our daily lives. If we are not at the gym, we are doing water aerobics, and now hiking/walking A LOT! It feels amazing! Before my knee replacement I was not able to walk very much at all, so this feels so good! It hurts, and I am swollen and sore afterwards, but it is totally worth it. I am so proud of him for sticking to it as well, and this whole buddy system is really working for us. However, this past week I had no control over what I ate and have gained 5 lbs. (We went to Albuquerque last weekend to see the grandkids and a holiday weekend this weekend). I feel some of it is just water weight, and my legs are clearly swollen from all the walking, but I have to take accountability for what I have been putting in my mouth. Not to mention it is counterproductive to my added exercise. It does me no good to exercise if I'm going to eat back those calories and then some.

Beginning today I am going back to what I did for Lent. Absolutely no eating out while at work. Dinner is not really a problem because we love to cook at home, it's just work that is my temptation. Especially since no one here is doing this with me. No excuses, though, I got this! The weekends will NOT be my kryptonite, and more exercise will not be my excuse to shove more food in my mouth.

I've also been hesitant to add the pounds I gained here because I keep thinking that I'll just lose it and it will even out, but I've done it. I've gone from 43 lbs lost to 38. Holding myself accountable.

I am currently 293.8 - my mini-goal right now is 282. That will put me at the 50lbs lost mark and having lost 15% of my weight. That's just shy of 12 lbs.

I know this was a long post and not sure if anyone is even reading anymore, but this is for me. I have to hold myself accountable. I have to do this. No one is going to do it for me.

Yep. I'm reading all the way through, too.

I was super vulnerable to going off script at work too. Seeing as that's where I spend most of my day every weekday, I had to come up with a different strategy than just trying to shame myself into staying the course. I now prepare my week's breakfasts and lunches on the Sunday: five containers of each ready to go. I haven't had a moment's weakness in the last three months since starting to do this....well....there was the day my boss brought in fresh pretzel buns still warm from the bakery, but I'm counting that as a social imperative since it came from the boss. :)

Hi guys!!! I’m finally back at the gym! Shifting to evening workouts to better fit my new work schedule but I’m here as I type this! Feels really good. I’m also trying intermittent fasting 5 days out of the week. I’m doing 20:4 schedule, meaning I eat my calories between about 5:30 and 9:30 pm and fast (other than coffee and water) during the day on weekdays. So far so good! I find myself not really getting hungry until dinner time. This seems to have gotten me out of my stall. I’m so close to 299 I can taste it!

I’m here reading - even if I don’t always post.

@PloddingTurtle - it’s not often the scale surprises us with more than we were expecting, way to go!!

@cnavarro002 - that is so great that you are able to do all that moving around, it must feel amazing. You will get the nutrition part down. Really you will.

@Mellykay88 - I’m glad you are feeling up to being back in the gym. 299 is coming!

Just checking in with you all. My daughter is a competitive dancer and injured herself in April and has been struggling to recover. She's on the mend, but it's been a rough month. I lost 13 pounds in May, and am down to 340 today. That's a 73 pound loss so far! I fell off the wagon with exercising when she got hurt and I have had a number of days over my calorie goal today, but I'm determined to start my Walk Strong DVDs again and get back in track.

@cnavarro002 I understand your frustration as I've been in that spot many times. I'm glad you're putting your foot down and catching yourself. That's a good thing! Keep working on being consistent at work with bringing your own healthy food. You can do this!

I've been having a real stressful day, and other days have been like this too. I haven't been able to exercise at all for about 6 weeks now, first due to my back injuries getting bad again, then, do to a procedure I had at the hospital. I know, from the rules I have to follow from the hospital, that I won't be able to exercise for at least another 8-10 weeks. I've already tried accelerating my hospital plan, but, it gets me bad every time I try to do that. So, I've just got to be patient and follow their rules for my recovery, b/c they sure knew what they were talking about when they made up the recovery schedule.

Exercise is so important to me, to be able to function right. Specialists have told me I need to do it to relieve some of my symptoms from my Dx's. It's just so rough now, without working out so long, and it will be,...seems like forever, until I can exercise again. I just don't know how much more I can take it, without the exercise. I just have NO choice though. Any helpful ideas??? I just can't go out and spend $$$ though, b/c of all my bills. So, something non-money related would be real helpful.

I've been doing well with what I'm eating and have been losing weight successfully. I was extra hungry this morning and really over did it bad. Hungry doesn't mean to stuff yourself so much that you can't hardly move either... :D But, I'm not giving up, especially over one huge meal. :p

Amy_Kee I am sorry you are having a hard time. Are you able to walk? That is a great form of excercise. Are you able to just move your arms? Seated workouts on YouTube. Can find almost anything on there. Otherwise I would totally follow Drs orders. You don't want to hurt yourself to make your recovery last longer or new injuries. Patience is hard when you are craving things. I hope this helped thoughts and good vibes sent your way

@amy-kee are you at least going outside and getting fresh air/sunlight every day? The vitamin D from sunlight can really help. It’s hard to suggest without knowing what your limitations from the procedure are but you can go to YouTube and search for seated workouts. Maybe some of them have moves you can do safely? Are you able to swim - that can be a good way to get exercise that is gentle on your body.

I am sorry to hear you are struggling so much. How much longer are you going to be on restriction?

@bigghunny, Melanie, thanks for the suggestions. Maybe I'll get my pair of hand weights out and do some arm work. Thanks for telling me about the YouTube seated workouts.

@MzCara148, Thanks, I think I will take a few 2 block walks during the days it's not raining. Also, thank you too for telling me about the YouTube seated workouts. I can't get submerged in water now--tub or pool, until I my surgeon says I can. I do want to swim some, when able. I'm not sure how much longer I'll be under lots of restrictions. I go for a 2 week follow-up appt with the surgeon's PA on Tuesday morning. I'll ask.

@amy_kee : doing some hand weights while seated is a great way to get a workout in if you have some limitations. My husband and I enjoy taking a quiet walk in the early evening as it starts to cool down so we can burn a few calories after dinner and it’s a nice time to catch up. When I walk alone, I listen to some music and just enjoy the solace :)

@PloddingTurtle : I waited one hour from when I ate (I ate at 6 and was ready at 7). I figured this way, it was still light out for the nights I was out alone and gave me time to digest. I started by just walking to the end of my street and back (maybe a 1/4 of a mile total). I did that for one week, knowing I was able to go further, but also didn’t want to gas myself out and give up. I set a very realistic goal for myself. From there, each week I have set a slightly longer distance for myself. I am now up to a mile (1/2 each way) and will likely stay there for a bit because I want to incorporate a more intensive workout for myself in the mornings and keep my evening walks with my husband as much about just spending some time with him as it is about working out. I started out at a leisurely pace and have picked it up to be the pace I would walk if I were heading to work (ie: somewhere to be but not speed walking). I am finding that after I get home and shower and change into my comfy clothes, I am relaxed and have been sleeping better. Also, take water :)

    Current Weight: 311.7 lb
Loss this week: +4 lb (since last Friday's weigh-in)
Total loss: -23.3 lb (hooray, me!)

I'm feeling puffy all over this morning. The gain is clearly water weight since I have not eaten enough to actually gain weight. But I have been eating a pasta lunch all week and indulged in bread as well. I'm not yet ready to admit the problem is wheat because I'm not yet ready to face the rest of my life without eating some of it. Time will tell.

The gain is disappointing but not particularly unexpected, and it won't be the last time this happens, so my resolve, optimism, and enthusiasm for a healthier future me is not affected. I saw my doctor yesterday and asked for a referral to a physio/exercise clinic for a consultation. I plan to establish a starter exercise program at the local gym, and I want to do this in a slow, gradual, and careful manner. I have a bad habit of lumbering in all enthusiastic and gung-ho then overdoing it, exhausting/hurting myself, demanding impossible levels of activity from myself, and not going back again for years. Not this time. I refuse to follow that previous pattern of failure. I'm committing to starting my new exercise habit in July.

I also have an appointment with a dietitian to go over my meal plans for any pointers or recommended adjustments and nutritional advice in general. She works out of my doctor's practice, and that appointment is scheduled for July 9. Overall, my doctor is very pleased with my loss to date (which was another 3 lbs higher yesterday afternoon - afternoon weight).

I'm getting set for a total sloth-like period of inactivity and sleep for the pre- and post-surgery rest/recovery phase. The next two weeks will be difficult for me. I expect to be exceedingly bored, and I tend to eat when I'm bored. I'll stock in a lot of low-cal crunchy vegetables to chew on to satisfy the compulsive chewing reflex. I'm prohibited from doing any exercise. They're even suggesting I limit bending over.

I'm working on my meal plans for the next two weeks, and I think I am going to individually pack next week's meals even though I will be at home all week, just for the convenience of not having to think about it or do too much prepping.
