Getting back on track.

@curltess033 The no sugar, seems to have worked well for you0

Not sure why I keep losing parts of my posts... I was saying that I am the only primal person in my house, but also the cook, so I often cook primal with some carbs on the side. Last night was steak burgers (again0
-
I've updated my app, so we'll see if that works. I try not to ban any food in our house, but cook whole, unprocessed, so last night there were new potatoes on the side, for those 2ho wanted them. My 12yr old says she wants to reduce sugar, so I see that as a good thing.
@SteamClutch I feel the same, I was starting to eat too much of the wrong things. I'm feeling much better now I've reined it in.1 -
It's great to see new people on here!! Let's keep each other motivated!!0
-
@madwells1 It definitely helps me to keep motivated by checking in with others. I had a super busy day yesterday, but really benefited from the extra energy eating primal gives me. I got woken up at 5am by my youngest, did some yoga, had lots of chores to do in town, so including the school run, walked 21,000 steps, quite a bit of that carrying a heavy bag and in a fasted state. I also managed some arm weights/squats/lunges before bed. Normally, I would have felt exhausted, but felt full of energy.
Yesterday's dinner was crab cakes with salad: tinned crabmeat, chives, spring onions (scallions), egg and thickened with a little coconut flour. Fried in coconut oil, it was delicious ☺.1 -
@eve70, you're doing great!!! I need to start religiously doing squats before bed. You give me so much motivation!!!
Hope everyone is geared to have a good weekend.
I am a little tired today and haven't been hungry this morning, which is odd. I need to up my protein for dinner tonight, and am going to have roasted cod and vegetables with a sweet potato.

@madwells1 I might have blown it by having an ice-cream with dinner today. I didn't feel great after, so that's a good reminder. 80/20. We had roast hake with a "breadcrumbs" topping of milled flaxseed, cajun spice, a little parmesan, herbs.1
-
@madwells1 I was really joking, I didn't feel great afterwards, so that's good incentive. Back to it yesterday, even though I made a low carb brownie for everyone as a bank holiday treat. It's pretty healthy (and so rich you don't need much), with ground almonds (almond flour), coconut flour, hemp protein powder, eggs, cocoa, only 2 tbspns maple syrup for about 8 portions, served with vanilla whipped cream that I mixed with some coconut milk (that was delicious) and berries. Back to 2 meals with a snack and eating 17:7.2

I plateaued, and then increased! recently. Looking at my data, I see I lose when I eat basically one meal a day whether it’s midday or evening and that I easily fall into that pattern when following I.F. and low carb/high fat. Weekends are hardest for me because someone is always either eating or asking me to make them a meal all day it seems.2
-
@HestiaMoon1 I know what you mean about weekends, my children always seem to need feeding. It's tricky to keep to it when the routine's different.1
-
Weekends are just hard overall for me too. Sometimes in the eating department, but in the actual 'get up and do things and be more active' department.
Unfortunately, I am one of those people that just hates going and doing stuff on the weekend....I need time to myself to unplug from the week. This keeps me more sedentary than I would like. For example, today I only have around 6,000 steps and I during the week I am around 20,000 a day.
I am probably the only person that would rather stay inside on a beautiful Saturday or Sunday and clean my house versus go out and mingle or shop.
This leads me to not eat because I am not on a 'schedule' which throws my whole system off. I need to work on better balance. That's going to be my thing next weekend!!1 -
@madwells1 I need to build more activity into my weekends, too. On schooldays, the walk to school and back, morning and afternoon means I clock up nearly 10,000 steps plus whatever else I do in the day. Weekends, not so much. My youngest does a music class, but that's quite near and yesterday, we went and did a treasure trail at some local gardens, but both days were 4,000 and 6,000 respectively. I have started to schedule in a longer yoga session on Sundays, hopefully with the spring and better weather, I will do more walking to unwind as well!0

I am firing up a Whole 30 starting today, my wife is also joining me (at least in part) she put on 4 whole pounds in the last 5 years and still looks great but me about 30 in the last 3 years go figure, her's is most likely from stress.2
-
@SteamClutch good luck with your Whole30. I find my weights fluctuates quite easily, mostly from water/bloating, I think. I'm trying to lower my bodyfat atm, which is within the healthy range, but I could do with lowering it, as it's crept up a bit.
Yesterday was May Bank Holiday, here, so a long weekend. I did quite a vigorous yoga practice and needed to eat breakfast (unusual for me), so had a hard-boiled egg at 10am, a prawn (shrimp) salad at 12pm at a cafe, then didn't eat again till 7pm when we got home, leftover lamb, 97% pork sausage, egg and salad. Trying to walk more on "off" days, I managed 7,000 steps while at the beach, a fair few was up and down a cliff path carrying a heavy load too. I know I'll like notch up quite a bit of steps today, so maybe make it up over the whole week.1 -
Yup, movement is key I found out. Even though I remained fairly primal for a few years I stopped daily exercises and the weight started creeping back, I put in between 6000 and 10000 steps a day but because it isn't done in one or two sessions it hardly makes any difference in the outcome. I am focusing on just the food this week but will try to incorporate serious movement in a few days.1
-
Each time I have lost weight (fat) it has started with exercise, I think it might be a mixture of increasing muscle mass and adjusting my mental attitude. I'm making all this effort, I'm not going to blow it with my diet, kind of thing. Also, if I'm moving around a lot I'm less likely to be eating! Much easier in the warmer, lighter spring and summer months, I find, as I'm more energised. I do daily yoga, because I love it, but it's not especially fat burning. It does keep me flexible and helps prevent injury. I've tried to really get back to doing weights and resistance exercises as well as walking. Some of my walking is quite brisk/uphill if we're getting to school on time, so I suppose it's all good.2
-
I've been doing pretty good this week. My eating has been about 95% which has made me feel a lot better.
Additionally, I started a new weightlifting program. I haven't lifted 'consistently' for awhile, so this it was about time for me to start scheduling the days in. I did upper body on Monday and my arms are pretty sore today.
The consistent food and the new workout plan (lifting plus usual 30-60 minute walking/jogging sessions) has me sleeping like a baby so far this week!
Hope everyone is well and is welcoming in the summer!

I've started a no sugar week, this week, so have allowed myself a little fruit but no chocolate or condiments with any sugar or sweetener. I've found I've snacked less and it's more of a reset than anything serious. I've upped my weights this week and have got more energy and been more active, I did lots of heavy duty cleaning/lifting yesterday morning. Well done @madwells1 you sound like you're doing really well.
Yesterday was:
Bulletproof coffee
I was so busy my mid-morning coffee ended up at lunchtime!
Scrambled eggs with lots of spinach, spring onions (scallions), dill and a little feta cheese
Snack of a few cashews, pistachios and a few black grapes
Gluten free toulouse sausages with lots of steamed veg and grassfed butter, a couple of strawberries with a little cream1 -
Hi everyone, I’m back.
I don’t know what happened! I love eating mostly primal. I get some momentum going and feel great. And then I think, a little more of _______ today fits m CI/CO, I’ll be fine. But I just crave more of those non-food foods as the days progress.
How many times will I have to learn this lesson?
Well I’m grateful I only binged up to maintenance calories and that I’m halfway back in the swing of things. I’m catching up with the past couple weeks on this thread now! Hope you’re all well1 -

I think you already have!! We all ask ourselves that question, which is the first step to confirming that we know how much better we feel when we eat right, regardless of CICO.
Nice to see you back!1 -
@wellnesschaser We've all been there! I keep using the food notes, to remind myself of how I feel when I eat something not so great. I've done 5 days of no sugar, but feel I'm substituting a small square of dark choc for some greek cheese (feta or halloumi) and black grapes, as well as a little strawberries and cream (which is resulting in eating more fruit and dairy than I would like, so I think I will go back to a small piece of 85% dark choc instead, but still substitute the jarred mayonnaise for a drizzle of avocado oil and lemon juice over salad. I might look into making my own mayonnaise, too.1

Thanks @madwells1. Well said.
@eve70 - thanks for mentioning food notes, I am going to start using them.
In all I’m feeling much better since reigning things in. I wish - no, can’t wish! - I would like it if I had more family support. If I’m not planning and cooking dinner, my husband will not settle for something like greens and a protein and some avocado like I want to prepare. He orders from our local pizza and sandwich shop. Tricky! It’s getting better over time. I’m just trying to do “me” and someday I will stop stealing fries.0 -
Hello all! I'm new to this group but not to Paleo. I've been floating along for so long now and gaining some weight back, so it's time to tighten things up. I really like eating paleo, albeit low carb paleo. I feel SO healthy eating this way! I also just love how many options there are out there that's paleo at the local grocery store. It makes our lives so much easier!! I am looking forward to getting to know my fellow primal/paleo friends! Feel free to send me a friend invite - the more support the better!0
-
@wellnesschaser I hear you, I'm the only one who is paleo in our house. I'm trying to persuade my partner, as he's been told he's pre-diabetic, so at the very least he needs to rein in the sugar and white carbs.
@carlsoda welcome. I've been on mfp for ages, but only recently on these boards, because I really need to eat how I want to as it makes me feel so much better. I've also been feeling much more energetic and active, which is great. I've upped my weights, really gone forward in my yoga, doing lots of energetic chores like spring cleaning, carpet shampooing, gardening and walking more.

Hi everyone, it's been a while and I'm trying to catch up. It is helpful to see how everyone has struggles but stays consistent. We are all doing our best!
On Mother's Day I decided to try out pilates private sessions to really start rehabbing my core. It's going great, but really expensive so I need to figure out my next step in building core strength. I still need more time but I spent over $600 on pilates last month!
In other news, I have been dealing with stress which has led to drinking a bit more, and then having more carbs and even some grains. With grains/sugar, I feel tension in my jaw shortly after eating. Other carbs like potatoes and fruit don't seem to affect my joints but I do feel bloated. I'm getting back on track today and not giving up for anything no matter how many times I stumble. My mother is managing stage 4 breast cancer and right before Memorial Day had unexpected brain surgery. I live closest to my parents and work from home most of the time so I take on a lot with helping them. The week after was my 35th birthday full of treats, and now I am in the midst of dance recital prep with my two daughters - which is exciting but stressful too.
I don't even want to weigh myself. Before Memorial Day I had a couple of great weeks with consistent IF and finally feeling fat adapted, and my weight had gone down to within 3 lb of my mini-goal weight, but as things piled up I slid and I'm pretty sure I've bounced back up. I feel great this morning. I really think keeping 0 sugar and pretty low carb without counting is key for me, but also not going crazy with fat.
About to get in some at-home blogilates before I start the day.0 -
@wellnesschaser my husband is the same way. I recorded Food; What the Heck Should I Eat -- it was a special on PBS featuring Mark Hyman who is now promoting a "pegan" diet which is pretty paleo/whole30, but the approach isn't as stringent - he promotes a 10 day reset and eating mostly plant foods, smaller meat portions, no grains, no dairy (unless high quality). I believe his plan allows for starchy tubers a couple of times a week. I like that it isn't really "keto" but the carbs are very controlled.
What I like about the special versus something like the Miracle Pill, is he is talking to "regular" people in a lecture format and makes it seem simple. He mentions "Feel Like Crap" syndrome which is something I am pretty sure my husband suffers from but doesn't realize it. While he isn't going to say no to pizza, from watching this on PBS and another documentary on netflix he does agree with the value of high quality food. I am pretty sure if he was convinced that he himself were "sick" he would move to this style of eating to more like 90% adherence but I even 70% at this point is fine for now. I think next we will watch Mark Hyman's series on the brain because memory problems are starting to surface in my husband's family as his grandmother and father age.0 -
@curltess033 --you've had a rough couple months haven't you? Hope things are evening out a bit. Great job keeping with the pilates.
I have been pretty good lately with my eating habits. I did make a pot of pinto beans the other day though, as I wanted refried beans so bad. Odd craving right? I ate one serving two days ago, and wow. I still have gas (sorry for the TMI). Hehehehe. No pilates for me for a couple more days!!
I had surgery (carpal tunnel) a little over 2 weeks ago so that has set me back slightly. I started a new weightlifting routine before the surgery so I had to take a slight break. I don't know when I will be able to do push ups...still sore in the palm although I am healing well.
Hope everyone is well.

It's fitting that I started this thread, and here I am, getting back on track! I wanted to enjoy "food freedom" and I did that for a little bit. But my digestion and my sleep were starting to suffer. I'm a few days easing back into paleo/primal eating and already my sleep has improved! Bloating has gotten better. I just need to stick here because my body just seems to respond well to it!0
