Hi All! Yesterday was my first day back on Keto. About a year ago I lost about 30lbs on keto and loved the way it made me feel but between selling a home building another and a failed IUI keto was no longer priority to me and the weight of course came back.
I lose weight extremely fast doing Keto which is a huge factor in me starting this lifestyle again, however, the biggest reason would be to hopefully help with unexplained infertility issues. There are tons of articles that tie low carb/keto to higher success rates in fertility treatments so I pray that I can be part of those stats soon!
Yes both my endocrinologist and fertility specialist said the same when i was trying to conceive for the 1st time. I took a lot of fertility meds and was able to for our 1st baby. But now that we are starting to think about starting to try for our 2nd one starting in January, I would love to conceive all naturally. We got this.2 -
Hi all! So glad to have found this group!! I just started keto this week. I had transitioned to lowering my carbs over the past few weeks. So, far I'm feeling fine...just trying to research pinterest and the internet for ideas, meal plans, and recipes to keep me on track. Also, been on Instagram a lot following people who live Keto to stay informed. I figured since I'm already doing that and back to tracking my macros on MFP- why not get involved in the community? I was on MFP about 5 years ago (been on/off since then but definitely not consistently). I was on the boards often, connecting with people, and my success was much higher than my recent trials. So, here I am!!
My story (the short version) is I'm a 36 year old (5'8) mom of 2 boys married to my college sweetheart. My CW is 175.6 as of this morning. When I was on MFP consistently last time, I had gotten down to 154 (my GW is 145) through consistent exercise, tracking, and (at that point) I carb cycled with IF. I still IF simply because I find not eating breakfast 98% of the time makes me feel better throughout the day. I kept the weight off for about 1.5 years and then one day I was deadlifting and popped my hip out- well that lead to piriformis in that hip which has haunted me to this day. I have tried jumping on the exercise band wagon multiple times since and the pain returns. I tried all kinds of things and so far all have lead to a returning of the pain...so I'm still trying to sort that part out. For now, I make sure to get my steps, walk my puppy 1.5-2 miles in the morning (good for him and me!) and throw in a workout when I'm feeling normal. Thus, my diet is vital to my success since my workout abilities are somewhat limited (I'll continue to experiment because there has to be a way!!).
I'm hoping that I can stay consistent with keto, increase my steps, increase my water consumption, eliminate diet/zero soda (I'm down to 1 a day), and find a workout regimen that works for me. So that's my story in a nutshell! I'm glad to be here!2 -
Hi all...My name is Tiffany!
I've been Keto since January 2017. Keto is the last thing I tried and the only thing that has worked.
I've struggled with obesity my entire adult life (I'm 45 years old). When I was 42 years old I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. Cancer doesn't run in my family. When I went into remission in January 2016 I vowed to once and for all beat obesity at any cost! I felt like my eating a crap ton of sugar and carbs on a daily basis and being morbidly obese was a leading factor to developing breast cancer. I started my weight loss/healthy journey at 250 pounds. I hired a coach and did the if it fits your macros way of eating. In 2016 I lost 25 pounds, I felt TERRIBLE, I had horrible joint pain, horrible plantar fasciitis (PF) in my feet, very depressed, horrible brain fog/chemo brain, always hungry, etc. In December 2016 I threw up my middle fingers at weight loss and just took the month off and enjoyed food wise with my family. Due to my lack of weight loss my coach was frustrated with me and no longer wanted to work with me. I was so sad and depressed and felt helpless. I asked my Oncologist if I was a candidate for gastric sleeve and he told me no due to my body needing ALL the nutrients and with a small stomach I wouldn’t be able to absorb what’s needed, I asked if I could try Metifast again no due to the protein being soy based and soy creates an estrogen production and my cancer was estrogen fed so I couldn’t do that.
I was lost… a high school friend won a national fat loss competition through her gym and I reached out to her and said what did you do and she told me about Keto. I BAWLED my eyes out. I’ve known about keto but never wanted to do keto because of the no carbs. I knew I had to try it. If I didn’t try it then I would have to surrender to the fact that I was going to live out my days in extreme pain, extreme inflammation, brain fog, depression/anxiety, probably develop cancer again, etc. Sounded like a pretty miserable existence and I thought I didn’t survive cancer to live like this. I fought and survived cancer to LIVE and live life to the fullest. I have a husband that deserves a happy and healthy wife, kids that need the same… I want to live to see them graduate and live a full life of their own. If I continued the way I was going none of that was going to happen.
So reluctantly I started keto on January 21, 2017. I started keto so that I could prove to my Oncologist that the only “diet” that will work for me is gastric sleeve and he would sign off on me moving forward with weight loss surgery.
In the beginning of my keto journey I did have mild keto flu but not too terrible. My friend kept telling me when I feel like crap eat more fat, eat an avocado and take in lots of salt. By the 5 day I felt my brain fog starting to lift, by day 10 I could literally feel my brain working and moving. It was the weirdest thing. I felt like my brain was on fire but in a good way. I had more energy than I ever had. My joint pain and PF was starting to go away. Best of all I was seeing the scale go down. Within a month I knew this way of life was for me! When I went for a follow up visit with my Oncologist he congratulated me on my weight loss and symptoms being so much better and asked me what I was doing. I reluctantly told him I was Keto and he was so happy to hear this. He assured me that if I stay keto long term I’m drastically reducing my changes of a cancer reoccurrence. That was enough for me to know that this was now my forever way of life.
Today I weigh 166 pounds. I’d like to get to 145 but if I’m in the 150’s I’m good with that too. Today it’s about being strong and healthy. Since I started keto I’m down 59 pounds and since I’ve committed to being as healthy as possible once I went into remission I’m down 84 pounds.
This is a way of life… KETO IS LIFE!!!

Hi all,
I recently started Keto in June after reading the book "Simply Keto" which I spotted while at the library with my kids. When I started reading the author's story, I seriously thought it was me who was writing the book and it really encouraged me to give it a try.
I feel like this is the lifestyle change I have been searching for, and really want to get to the point where I can eat Keto full time. I have lost about 5 pounds so far, but I have not been 100% keto. Some days I do great, and others I have something way off the Keto menu. This being said, this is the first time that I have actually lost weight when trying any kind of new "diet" in years. After reading the book, and watching a couple of documentaries (The Magic Pill and That Sugar Film) I feel it all clicks. My starting weight was 230lb, and I hope to get down to 140. I'm only 5'2 so if I could achieve more that would be great.
I love the ease and simplicity of the recipes, however I feel I really need to search the community and find a variety of meal and snack ideas. I guess in the back of my mind too, I still think "am I being unhealthy by eating all of this meat and fat?" With my 20g of carbs daily, I try to eat green, leafy vegetables to make me feel better about it. Where does everyone else get their carbs?
I am also struggling with doing this with a family who is not eating Keto. My husband is somewhat supportive, I am able to guide what we have for dinner, but the amount of junk food we have in the house is always tempting. Stress, unhappy marriage and all that play a part to my emotional eating, so I am trying to juggle all of these things as well.
All in all just looking for some support and encouragement, and yummy Keto ideas!3 -
Fosterc681 I completely relate to all you shared on your hesitation with keto. That was me too 18 months ago. Keep in mind that FDA/Medical profession and insurance companies make A LOT of money by keeping us sick. How do they keep us sick??? With food and crap food. Re-watch those films and really just let it all sink in and keep that in your mind when you have doubts.
Fat doesn’t make us fat (good fats that is). When the arteries aren’t clogged due to lack of inflammation the fat can’t stick like it does when we are eating high fat and high carb diets.
As far as meal ideas I suggest Keto Connect, RuledMe and Pinterest. Google was my BFF in the beginning of my keto journey. There’s also a TON of Keto FB groups too devoted to keto recipes.
For the family there are ways you can make dinners and if your husband and kids want the carbs fine and you just don’t eat the carbs. Dining out is easy too. Mexican get fajitas with no rice, beans or wraps and ask for extra guac. Get a bacon cheeseburger with no bun and a salad for the side with oil and vinegar vs bun and fries. Steak!!! Oh steak ❤️🥩.
It’s defiantly a lot to get used to in the beginning but keep pushing forward and very soon it will become your way of life. I would encourage you to not do keto one day and the next do a standard diet with carbs. That could potentially cause a lot of health issues for you. With keto you either commit to it and do it or you don’t. If you decide keto isn’t for you that’s fine...everyone has to do what’s best for their body and what they can sustain long term.
Good luck and Keto on!!!1 -

I thought I'd pop in and do an intro since I am reading. I may not contribute much. Y'all seem pretty level headed around here.
I lost my excess 60+ pounds in 2013-14 via low carb of ~128 total grams per day. Later in maintenance, I trialed a Medically Therapeutic Ketogenic Diet (very low in both carbs and protein) for reason other than weight/body fat management. I think that was 2016. With that, I discovered a satiety that I did not experience during weight loss and the 1st year of maintenance which was higher carb and lower fat.
Hunger and cravings suppression are why I remain LCHF. It works for me. 2 + years and counting, I guess. I'm 64, female, trim and happy. Don't make it too hard. Determine a macro allocation you find satiating. Hover around your calorie deficit. Up your sodium (for electrolyte balance) to around 3000-5000mg per day if you have no medical reason to keep sodium low. Be patient. None of us gained it over night. You will slip. Get back on track.3 -

Hi, Thank you for the encouragement. I am really trying to explore what is out there Keto wise, I have already found out that eating out, or thinking of a snack is so simple compared to past "diets I've done." Keto is definitely for me, and I am going to hopefully take it one day at a time and continue this journey2 -
Hi everyone,
My name is Lena. I'm starting let for the first time!. My start date will be Monday. I. Trying to gather as much info about the eating process to be successful. I've tried many diets, lost the weight and put it back on again when I got pregnant with my son three yrs ago. I gained about 60lbs during that pregnancy, lost all but the last 10lbs. My current weight is 200lbs and my goal weight is 165. I have found it extremely hard to get under 200lbs and maintain the weight. Hopefully keto will be the answer! I'm looking forward to this journey of weight loss 💪🏽.1 -
Hi all also a newbie. just finished the first week (lost 6.6lbs!) most likely water weight, but hey - a win is a win!
70lbs to go (SW 247 - GW 176)
It's taken quite a bit to try and balance the 5%, 75%, 25% ratios - particularly calories vs carbs (I'm aiming for 1600 calories per day) so I'm definitely open to some ideas. At the moment I'm filling in the gaps with fat bombs. I love them, but yeah - I dont plan on carrying them around for ever and would like to find real foods to fill those gaps.
So far I'm absolutely loving it and not finding it difficult at all. I'm just obsessed with logging everything and trying to find the perfect balance.
Nice to be in the group!4 -
Hi All,
My name is Katie and I recently transitioned from a wfpb diet to vegetarian "Paleo" to keto. Wfpb did not work for me because I have food addiction issues (no such thing as a healthy whole grain when it triggers midnight binge eating!). I still eat plant based "meat" on keto and it's working great. Since I stopped all grains and sugars, I'm down 10.8 lbs in 5 weeks. Last 4 days I've been in ketosis, and I'm losing weight at an alarming rate. Hopefully it slows down! I also do a strict fast from 5 pm to 9 am- or longer if I feel like it. I've made a commitment to stick to this with no cheating until Christmas. I started at 178.8 lbs and my goal is 135 by Christmas.7 -
Hello All,
My name is Tara and today is day 1 of keto. I have done some research and although I am feeling slightly overwhelmed, I HAVE to do this! I am 43 years old and have a 13 year old son and a 3 month old daughter. You read that right, 43 and have an infant! I was high risk due to my age and weight and despite losing all my pregnancy weight (about 20 pounds), I have gained it all back. I am looking forward to the support and information in this group. Also, looking for MFP "friends" for support and encouragement, so if interested, feel free to "friend" me.4 -
Hi, I started keto around 2 weeks ago and have lost 7lbs so far, however I can really notice more of a difference in my clothes. I have less of an appetite and no longer think about food constantly. I need to stop having the alcohol as I know this will help.
Happy to have found this group to help me and others on our way.6 -
Hi, my name is Traci and I started Keto and Intermittent Fasting on June 18th of this year. To date, I am down 22 pounds and was just told by a friend about my fitness pal, so today is my first day here. I was searching for others who are on this path and so grateful to have found the group.4

Hello everyone,
My name is Tiffani and I am working on day 2 of Keto. So far I have found it rather refreshing that I already eat mainly meat and veggies, now I just have to limit my carbs...so right now it doesn't seem too hard, let's hope I feel the same way after a few days LOL.1 -

Hi, I'm Kayla. I am on day three of Keto. I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease and PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome) back in 2015. I have been gluten-free for two and a half years. I feel like I am still constantly bloating and that my PCOS is getting worse, so I decided to do a low carb or Keto diet. Also, I want to get back to my old weight, which was 132 lbs. I gained weight due to the PCOS and gluten and weighed 188 pounds. Once I went gluten-free, I dropped down to 168 pounds within a less than a year time span. It's time to lose the rest of the weight, feel better, and help control my PCOS. Also, I am doing blogilates six days a week for a workout.1

Hello! My name is Carlee and I live in Queensland, Australia. I am originally from the US. I moved here in 2014 to join my LDR boyfriend who is now my husband.
I have been heavy pretty much all of my life. I remember my 7th grade PE teacher telling me at a class weigh in that I weighed 190 pounds. That was the first time I ever really paid attention when I was weighed. My weight over the years only climbed up. I didn't really seem to care what or how much I ate. If I wanted to eat it, I ate it.
In 2009 my first husband divorced me because after 5 years I still could not get pregnant. Not only was I morbidly obese but I had also been diagnosed with PCOS shortly after marriage. He decided having children was more important to him than being with me. That pretty much not only made me feel like I was worthless to any man, but also made me never want to have kids anyway because why should that be all I was good for?
I am now married to a wonderful man who not only knows all about my struggles and defeats, he also accepts the fact that we may never have children. We are in our 40s and pretty set in our quiet lifestyle. We do love children and will spoil our nieces and nephews but having our own just isn't plausible.
I went to the doctor at the end of April this year because I'd started to have severe pain in my back that just wasn't going away. I was taking ibuprofen like it was candy every day for weeks and I'd tried to talk to a few massage therapists because I figured I'd just pulled something when I'd been scrubbing the bathroom floors one day. None of them would touch me because I'd also mentioned a sensation of numbness near the location. They told me I should get it checked first. The doctor sent me off to have a CAT scan done of my back. She also wanted to get a sonogram of my tummy because I also happen to have a hernia caused by gall bladder removal surgery back in 2001. I was living in the US at the time of the gall bladder surgery and couldn't even afford it at the time let alone to go back later to have the hernia fixed. She also had my bloods checked for a few things.
When I went back to her a week later, she told me the cat scan found I have osteoarthritis in my lower back on the right side and that it's very pronounced between vertebrae sections 1 through 5. She sent in a referral to our local hospitals surgical unit for my hernia and she gave me my blood tests results. I have type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. She put me on 2000 mg metformin that also has 5 mg dapagliflozin for the diabetes, 4 mg perindopril for the blood pressure and 145 mg lipidil for the high cholesterol. I was also told that I am deficient in vitamins D and B12. I asked about my thyroid because it was a worry and she said that everything else seemed to check out fine. After she told me what prescriptions she was giving me, I asked her what was she going to give me for my back and she said there was nothing she could give. I asked her what should I do then and she told me that the only thing she could tell me was to lose weight. She also said she was going to refer me to a dietitian and a physio.
As soon as my husband and I left the doctors office, we went to the nearest chemist to fill the scripts. As they were ringing us up, I just stood there staring blankly. I was freaking out inside. My doctor had just put me on 2000 mgs of metformin and that seemed a bit excessive. It scared me to death thinking that if they didn't work, the next thing would have to be needles for the rest of my life. And my back was killing me and I was so tired of having to take pain meds several times a day just so I could sit comfortably or even sleep! A switch flipped in my head then.
I had no clue at all about keto at first. I just new that I needed to DRASTICALLY drop my carbs down, fast. I began tossing things out of my pantry and stopped buying chips, crackers, potatoes, rice, sweets, anything that I knew had a ton of carbs in it. 2 weeks later one of my sister in laws noticed what I was doing and she told me about keto. She and my brother in law had apparently been doing it for several months and they were looking wonderful! They hadn't needed to lose very much at all but she wanted to look and feel better so he joined her to support her and found he quite enjoyed how it made him feel as well. She sent me some information and added me to a FB group for Australians eating LCHF. My research and the groups I joined took off like a wild storm. I was so super excited by everything I was seeing and reading and just soaked up as much information as possible. Since I'd already pretty much limiting my carbs, limiting them even further was no problem. Figuring out the fats and proteins was a little tricky but think I have it down for the most part.
I officially started keto/LCHF on April 26, 2018. Since then I have lost 12 kilo (26.5 pounds) according to my weigh in on Wednesday morning. I weigh myself every Wednesday morning and then I post a weekly update on my FB wall. I do that to not only help keep myself accountable but also as my own personal journey journal of sorts. Apparently I am also inspiring a few of my friends to also look at their own wellness and make goals. I've had a few tell me I should start a blog. I am a bit shy about doing that though. It just seems crazy to me that I'd have anything that strangers would want to read on a weekly basis LOL!
So yeah, there's me. Sorry, I ramble sometimes and I love to write. So....yeah lol!

Hi! My name is Amy and I just started my attempt at Keto four days ago. I have seizures and migraines in addition to forty unwanted pounds, so I turned to keto as a complementary treatment as well as a diet. I’m very happy to have access to friendly people with the same nutritional outlook!3

@amywizengamot Are you under the care of a neurologist regarding your eating keto for seizures and migranes? I hope you find it helpful.1
