Gary - Love the Ambien plan...I am not a big fan of flying...maybe I should try that!
Syd - OMG Bora Bora is somewhere I would LOVE to go! I would be uber jealous of that trip!!

Going to a MMA fight tonight - my daughter's boyfriend's brother is fighting, so we're going to root him on. Should be interesting. Tomorrow - getting ready for Super Bowl party and Sunday we will have a house full!
I haven't been drinking hardly at all this month and the scale is reflecting it! Yay! Going to keep on keeping on...maybe a light beer or 2 on Sunday... :);)

I messed up my back pretty bad...not lifting weights or doing pilates...but by lifting a 6 pack of wine into my shopping cart (hey...I love my 20% off when I buy in bulk, what can I say?)
    I kid you not.
Figured only people in a lush group could appreciate that pitiful story. :drinker:

Sorry about your back Sydney! Now soak in the tub with a glass of that wine. B)

Winter has finally arrived. 5 inches of snow on the ground and temps in the low 20s. We have to travel tonight so will be taking it easy on the roads. Cocktails after that for me! :drinker:

Finally got the keto diet figured out. Got some macros and some great recipes. Still having a few drinks in the evening but keeping everything within guidelines.

Mom fell the other day on the sidewalk outside their place. Took her to the ER. No broken bones but 5 stitches to her forehead. She has black eyes (known as "Raccoon Eyes") but will be ok. I am trying to convince her to walk with a cane.

Big snowfall expected this weekend. Kinda look forward to getting snowed in! I will post a pic if it is epic enough!

    Enjoy the weekend! :drinker:

Good luck with keto, Gary!! So much success on that plan for many.
Your parent stories sound so familiar. Why are they so stubborn? My MIL never would use a cane or walker and fell many times...the last one she never recovered from. I wish you the best and hope she heals well. <3

Well my back is healing slowly but I had my 1st experience with vertigo. Like bad...the room is spinning I need to throw up kind of vertigo. (Nope...I wasn't drinking 😉) I've never experienced anything like it...just horrific. Went to the chiropractor and I'm 1000% better. Looks like it'll be a temporary thing for me (thank goodness!) Follow up visits next week but hopefully on the road to recovery. Just in time for a 4 day getaway in Palm Springs next Friday. So ready to get away to some warmth!!
I haven't been drinking at all and not eating either due to vertigo. I'm at my lowest weight ever since being at MFP. I'm assuming I'll put it all back on on our trip so not logging the loss yet but it was fun seeing that new # on the scale. :D

    Have a great weekend everyone!!

Syd- the other thing that can cause vertigo is an inner ear infection. Some people don't even realize they have the infection since it is in the inner ear where you sense of balance is located. To see if you have vertigo rather than dizziness- close your eyes and shake your head. Vertigo will cause nausea, while dizziness will not.

Also, thanks for the words of support for my mom. It helps knowing others have been through this, and I can lean on you for support. (not too much as I wouldn't want to tweak your back!) <3

    Hello!
Gary - My MIL has the same problems with balance. She is FINALLY using a cane on a regular basis since taking several falls. She has nephropathy in her legs and feet so often she doesn't even feel them 100%....glad we finally have her convinced that a cane or walker is no longer optional. I'm assuming I'll probably be just as stubborn if I'm fortunate enough to live as long as her!

Syd - ugh, vertigo is the worst - one of our close friends suffers from it and bleh :p I'm glad you're feeling better!

Scale wasn't nice to me after this weekend, need to get back on track...was a bit to celebratory this weekend. And I was only celebrating that it was the weekend!! ;)

Ann, the weekend is worth celebrating!!

I'm finally starting to feel human. The back is doing real well and the vertigo has improved. I still have some dizziness (at night mostly) Today is day 5 and I think I'm turning the corner. It's also day 5 of 0 drinks. The scale is my friend at the moment. At this rate I can't see myself drinking any time soon. The fear of aggravating the vertigo is much greater than my desire to have a glass of wine. You may have to take my lush card away!

Unfortunately we're canceling Palm Springs due to weather. The rain has just been non stop here and even in the desert it's cold and not vacation friendly. So we'll postpone. It'll give me more time to get back on track health wise as well...but I'm disappointed. I know the rest of the country is dealing with bone chilling temps and I shouldn't b!tch, but when this SoCal girl has to scrape ice off her car every morning, she gets quite cranky :s We pay big $$ to live here and I want sun and warmth!! This is the absolute coldest/wettest winter I can remember us having in years and the extended forecast looks no different. I've got Spring Fever BAD!!

Ok...I'll quit my complaining now. I am very grateful to be feeling better. Good health trumps any sort of bad weather!!! Hope you lushes have a fabulous week and Happy Valentine's Day to you!! <3

We had close to two feet of snow- unusual for us. Its finally stopped and we are headed for a warming trend into the 40s with rain. It will take a few days for the snow to melt.

Syd- glad you are feeling better! The double wammy of back and vertigo sucks! As for the weather- the whole country seems to be hit with unusual weather. We'll get through it. As for the San Diego area, I am sure the ground appreciates the water! :)

Ann- Due to the snow my mom wasn't able to get to a Dr to get her stitches out. I went over and did the best I could. We will see if an odd bit of stitch doesn't make its way out in the next week. We'll see if she starts using her cane. She is stubborn much like your MIL. :p

    Hi lushes!

I think I'm about to 100%. Keeping with the chiro for the back but everything feels pretty ok. Hoping to pick up the exercise a bit.

    27 degrees this am. :|

Was totally dry for about 2 weeks. Had my 1st glass of wine Saturday on a mini staycation the husband and I took for our 32nd anniversary. I think I'm going to try to stay dry during the week. We'll see how that goes.

    How's everyone else doing??

Syd- I didn't think San Diego got that cold! I am glad your back is getting better!

Not dry here, but it would help to get the lbs to come down. The snow is finally melting- we had 22 inches on the ground last Friday.

That's about it. Hope all is well with the gang!

Me either, Gary!! Scraping the ice off my car has become the new norm for me this winter.

Had a couple of dry days this week. No more rain in the forecast for a week so plans are to get out and at least walk. Still treading lightly with the back.

    Have a great weekend! :drinker:

I got buried by the snow. My kids in Vegas had a bunch of snow and the other morning my MIL had snow in Tucson. Gary, I am starting Keto today. need to lose before Maui. and the wedding and all of the other reasons we need to lose. Syd, I get vertigo all the time. just something I have learned to live with.

BTW Hi all, sorry I just haven't gotten my groove back yet. I will try to be here again tomorrow.

I don't even want to discuss snow :p one of the things I do at work is property management for business tenants. We've had to do so much snow removal this year- good for the bottom line, rough on our guys that work here! Yesterday, Michigan had 24 hours of wind, gusting to 60mph and snow- fun! :#
Weight is coming off, not drinking and other stress is a great but not recommended way to lose weight!

    Syd- glad you're feeling better
Robin- so good to hear from you!

Hi Robin! I don't envy your vertigo. The only semi-good thing I got out of it was losing weight because I was so nauseous from it.
Ann, I don't mind stress related weight loss if I know it's temporary. Hang in there! The Caribbean is calling B)
Hope you're hanging in there with the parents, Gary. How's the Keto going?

All good here. I've maintained my recent weight loss but haven't done much to add to it. I did book another desert getaway in March and a couple of staycations in April and May at the beach. We've had sunny days here but still overnight temps in the low 30s. C'mon Spring!! We're ready!!!

    Hey all!
Up here in WA State, Robin and I have gotten over what the local news called "Snowmageddon". During which we lost a large maple tree due to snow weight. However, nothing like Ann is dealing with in Michigan.

The keto is going well. I found that I still need to count calories, if not I tend to eat more than I need. I do feel better and don't miss the pastas or breads. The scale shows it is working.

We have been dealing with health issues of our parents. Wife's mom passed in 2012 and her dad is now in a care facility. My folks are still living independent but I am moving more into a support role, taking them to Dr appts, running errands etc. Times go by so fast. Every time the phone rings and I see its their number, my heart skips a beat.

Up early today at 5:30. Just woke up and and couldnt sleep. I guess old people to those sorts of things.

    Have a great day!

Day 3 of keto and I am losing so I am happy. I haven't quite mastered getting enough calories before I go to carb heavy. I am avoiding starch bread and pasta but when cheese has a carb here or there and greens have 3 or 4 they add up really quickly. I am also going alcohol free as long as I am happy about it.
Snowmageddon was a challenge. the last remnants on the north side of the house are just about melted. I am ready for more normal weather.

Have a wonderful day my dear Lushes.

Gary, " Every time the phone rings and I see its their number, my heart skips a beat"...

boy oh boy do I remember that. You don't realize how much stress that causes. I'm guessing it's probably why you're up at 5:30. It's only recently I've been able to get back to decent sleep patterns. Ever try meditation? It took me forever to get into it but I finally did (with the help of the calm app) I absolutely love it.

Had more wine than I should have last night after a busy day. Trying to coordinate the son's real estate efforts. I'm proud he is able to consider buying, but I remember why I've been in my house for 25 years. The looking, the numbers, the seller's demands, the lender's changing rates and (the biggest uncertainty of all) the housing market in general...are all things I'd rather not deal with. In the meantime my son is like LadeDa about it all. It's only money :D

:drinker: cheers to you who are indulging. and B) peace out to those who aren't

Meditation. I used to do something like that to fall asleep. I would imagine myself on a warm beach the tide gradually covering me from feet to head- all the while consciously relaxing each part. I would then drift the warm currents looking at all the peaceful sea life. After a month of doing that I could fall asleep in 10 minutes. I should get back into that.

Sticking with the keto. I am not having as good results as Robin, but I haven't given up the booze. So far 7 lbs. I do feel better and most important, I feel like I am in control.

Syd- I am glad your son has you to guide him through the house hunting. My dad (a former bank exec) used to say buying a home was the single best investment a person could make!

    Have a great weekend!

That's pretty much how meditation works! I use guided meditation to keep me on track. I'm working on keeping up with it when things are going well and not just turning to it during stress. It's made me a calmer/better person. Oh...it's dropped my blood pressure as well. B)
Rain all weekend and more this week too. :| Red wine is my friend
    Have a great week lushes!

Way to go Robin! We are sticking to the keto as well, but I am not losing as fast as I would like. Too much snacking after dinner, etc.

Switching back to daylight savings time has helped my mood. Looking forward to spring- its just around the corner!

Happy Monday! We are in for a stretch of nice Spring weather- right Robin?

Going to start cleaning up the snow storm damage in the yard- lots of fallen branches and one large maple tree down.

Looking forward to earning some guilt free evening drinks... :drinker:
