This is what happens when you have a late, extra-large Italian banquet-dinner out (anti-pasta, then pasta (which I skipped completely) THEN main course, then rich dessert) the night before weigh-in on the week when you've just been off your usual exercise-activity routine ...

My end-of-March numbers are gonna be GREAT because of this temporary blip that spiked today. I expect to be back to last week's number by next week.

Our theme of the day is "Foodie Friday" - anything even vaguely food related - recipes, shout-out requests for "what can I DO with this ingredient??" - want suggestions on how to handle / make a substitution for some "hard to handle for YOU" food? Did you DISCOVER a substitution for you?

Who did The Breakfast Challenge (besides @micki48 ?)

As always, ALSO respond and quote / reply to what others posted.

My first weigh in is tomorrow and I’m so nervous because if I didn’t lose anything I know I will be discouraged. But I’m optimistic tonight!

I noticed that today so I added you in.
@jugar - as i was doing this i went ahead and added the weigh ins that came in. Did not do any steps tho.

This week, I didn’t get to the gym like last week, but I did walk and do Pilates. I wish I had gotten there, but my schedule didn’t make it easy, plus I had my daughter’s family over for dinner twice this week, so that gets in the way of gym time. We went out to eat last night after an event we went to. I am trying to make good choices and mostly succeeding. One thing I noticed is that I am paying attention to my body’s signals. By eating more mindfully (slowly) I am recognizing when I am full and stop. I come from a long history of “plate finishers”. But it’s ok to take some home or leave it.

Also, the one day this week when I didn’t hit my 8,000 step goal, I felt really disappointed (I was tired and it’s ok). So last night at bedtime, I was 500 steps from 8,000 so I walked around my house in the dark with a flashlight until I hit 8,000. LOL

I might try making some overnight oats in the near future .... and would order the chia pancakes (don't tend to have that kind of flour on hand at home)

I'm so impressed with the numbers we are seeing this week! Lots of lovely green, and only small numbers in the red. You all know those are going to get better next week - a few strict days, and bob's your uncle!

    Foodie Friday :)

Tonight I'm making one of my daughter's childhood faves. I'll be here only 3 more nights before heading back home to Québec, and we're eating

    MISHMASH
I used to make this for my kids to get them to eat more vegetables. It's easiest with a food processor to grate all the veggies, but any method will do!

Lentils (brown or green best) - cook a batch of the total amount you want (1-2 cups) depending on your family size. Just cook in water with no salt.

    Grate finely:
    1 onion - keep separate
    2-4 carrots
1 large wedge of cabbage (or more!) - red or green
    1 small sweet potato

Sauté the onion in 1 T. oil until liquid is mostly gone and the onion is sweet and translucent. I like to grate it really fine so it is almost just mush with no pieces, but any fineness will do.

    Add:
Mild curry powder, or a mix of cumin, turmeric, ground coriander seed, cardamom - any curry spices you like. Make it hot if you want. Put in some salt, and sauté until the spices are aromatic and it is slightly browned. If you like the curry a bit more tomato-y, add some tomato puree or 1 fresh tomato finely diced, and sauté until most of the liquid is gone.

    Add:
all the rest of the veggies

Cover and simmer until the veggies are getting soft, then put in the cooked lentils. Stir it all up and cook until quite soft. Adjust salt to taste, and sweeten if your veggies have not done the job. Sometimes I put in a bit of ketchup, but now that the kids aren't kids anymore, I skip that! Serve over rice or with naan. Or just eat it with a spoon.

As you can see I didn't have a good week. Was sick the first part of the week and it went downhill from there. Already back on track and looking forward to having a great week this week!!

    Happy Saturday everyone!

    Treebek Saturday Weigh In: 197.2

Had kind of a crappy week on the scale and went back and forth between 197-198.8 all week 😢

I stayed consistent with logging and did great with food choices but the scale was just not my friend this week. I did not work out all week either so that could be it. Started TOM today so hoping this coming week works out better!

    Self-care Saturday -

Today I’m going to go to the gym and get a good work out and color my roots (they need it bad lol)

Also great news for me yesterday, I have been stressing because last month I did some fasting BG checks at home and my readings came back high so I went to my doc and got my blood checked and my A1C is totally normal! Not only that, my fasting BG level was in the normal range. So I’m not pre-diabetic and he said I don’t have to take metformin any more! I am so happy about this 😁
