Hey all, I started let last May (just over a year ago!). My plan was to look good for my wedding last September. I looked great but after the wedding found it difficult to stay motivated. The last 3 months I've been more off the wagon than on and gained back 20 of my 60lb loss:( now I'm ready to get back on track.

07/31 Wednesday for those who want to finish the whole month!

If you stick to it your first month should have a big change as you change the way you burn fuel, store water, and process fat. Keep your fat high and your carbs low and you should see a bug difference the 1st month(:

I have got to admit that I am a little disappointed. I thought I did really well with all of my food choices this week, both quality and quantity. I have managed to avoid birthday cake at parties, rolls at O'Charley's, and I even picked the croutons out of my salad (I asked for no croutons).

I had a good bit of swelling in my feet and ankles (BIG hiking trip last weekend!) and that was gone this morning, so I was expecting a decent size drop in weight. I have also started a weight lifting program, and I have been SORE off and on for the last month. Maybe this has something to do with my stall.

Here's hoping for a bigger drop next week.

    Hey there!
Unfortunately, almond milk in the mornings would break your fast (if you’re trying for intermittent fasting). I’ve switched to black coffee in the mornings, so that I can still have something.

As for canned mushrooms, you can check the nutrition label to see how many carbs, proteins, and fats they have. As long as the carbs are low, they should be fine.

I don’t have a lot of experience with artificial sweeteners other than aspartame/Equal, which is my favorite. Splenda is fine for the diet, but I have a bad reaction to it so I tend to avoid it.

    Hope that helps!

Thank you. Was so hoping to hear no. I grew up seeing my morning bevarage with milk so this will be a big visual shift. Will try this week and see how I adjust.

    1. Personally I avoid adding almond milk/cream/etc to my morning beverage if I am fasting. But some people do use almond milk (or even a small amount of cream) and still have a lot of success with IF (success meaning weight loss). If you are doing IF for other (medical/therapeutic/autophagy) reasons, then you may need to avoid it. This is your own experiment of one, so try a few approaches and see what works for you!

    2. Check the info on the canned mushrooms (or any product) as each brand will vary. Don't drain them to get rid of sodium!! You need much more sodium on a ketogenic diet as your body is flushing a lot of water everyday, and with it sodium and electrolytes. Sodium deficiency can make you feel tired and sick (keto flu).

    3. Splenda in the powdered form has dextrose and maltodextrin, both of which have basically the same effect as plain sugar will raise your blood glucose, so I avoid it whenever possible. My preference for coffee/tea is liquid stevia, and there are other granular and powdered options for backing and cooking.

Be aware that sweeteners like stevia, monk fruit, and sugar alcohols like xylitol and erythritol are not artificial. They are natural and extracted from fruits and other plants. Many people refer to them as alternative sweeteners, but it's important to know that they are not artificial.
