This is the first official check-in for me in 2020. Losing 0.8 lbs. in less than a week is somewhat of a Christmas miracle, given the amount of Christmas/New Year/Holiday goodies I was exposed to and my lack of discipline. Yesterday I think we killed off the last of the holiday non-keto food and I’ve been prepping keto meals to start this year and decade off right.

I’m grateful for the new decade. I’ve now known keto for two full years. The first year I was dedicated to keto and it served me well. Last year I was more keto-ish than keto and I gained weight and lost many of the non-scale victories (NSV) I gained in year one. My hope is this new decade will inspire me to get back to a more keto disciplined way of existing (WOE).

I’m also looking forward to being motivated by all your success on this thread. I can’t wait to see your weight losses and hear about the NSVs you gain as we pursue this crazy good WOE.

@DayTradingMissy Welcome and all you need to do is what you've done, except add your weight as well. So any January goal and what you weigh each Sunday or if this week whenever you started. You can also add your start weight etc or anything else you want to really! There is also a Spread Sheet you can use, also in the announcements section where you found the January Challenge. Just add your name and your weight. Some people use it and some don't, it's up to you. <3

I would like to join in here, I am up 6 lbs since Christmas. I always have a really hard time getting myself back on track after the holidays....it is a wicked cycle for me. I am a couple of weeks late, but better late than never!
I do great during the day....its all about the evening. I like my to snack too much!

My goal for January is to lose 10 lbs. Maybe that is asking too much.

    Before Christmas - 140
    Sunday Jan 12 - 146.5
    Sunday Jan 19 -
    Sunday Jan 26 -
    Friday Jan 31 -

Had a good week. I did okay with food cravings until Saturday night. So I just stayed out of the kitchen and made it through without cheating!

Although I can’t claim to have been Keto clean last week, I can say I was Low Carb High Fat (LCHF). My clean week. as evidenced by the loss of 8 pounds to report in the first full week here in our Monthly Challenge Forum. is proof Keto or LCHF suits me fine? When I adhere to this Way of Existing (WOE), I feel great and good things happen to my mind and body.

Plus, I <3 eating high fat! How can you not be happy with bacon, butter. and coffee as staples in your diet? However, “Talk is cheap” and we’re only 1.5 weeks into 2020. I want to embrace this crazy WOE for the other 50 weeks left in 2020. :D

Anyone here testing ketones? First time for me...measured moderate. Is that an optimal reading or should I strive for a larger amount?

Hi. I test my ketones once a week. I'm generally between 1.5 and 2.5 mmol/L. I've had weeks as low as 0.7 and still recorded a loss on the scales. I try to check in the mornings when still fasted from overnight, as I noticed my levels are lower after food.
If you're concerned about the numbers, perhaps see how you go for a few weeks of just recording them and your food diary, and see what happens. If you're seeing a loss on the scales then you probably don't need to worry too much. If no loss, look at the foods you are eating again. If really worried, see your family doctor or dietitian. It's different for everyone.
I don't know many people actually check their ketone levels, simply watching their food intake is generally enough?
I figure if I don't eat properly and slip out of ketosis, I'll get the 'keto flu' symptoms again once I start eating properly again.

I have felt overall quite good this week. I made keto pancakes with softboiled eggs and an avocado for breakfast this morning which was a nice weekend treat, but I haven't had many carb cravings and my energy levels have been good.

Not far from this months goal. Not going to push for it, but it is within sight with 2 weeks to go still.
I've been averaging 1kg loss each week since beginning keto in early Oct 2019. 2kg to lose in 2 - 2&1/2 weeks has been doable, but I also know that it'll start getting harder to lose as I have less to lose.

    HW: 103.8kg (June '18)
    Keto SW: 99.6kg (3rd Oct '19)
    GW: 58kg
    January GW: 83kg

    Monday 23rd Dec: 86.4kg
    Monday 6th Jan: 86.6kg
    Monday 13th Jan: 84.9kg

I've been happy with my non-scale victories too.
I'm going to need new clothes soon as what I have is getting loose and I'm having to adjust regularly during the day lol.
I've been cooking a lot more and even getting my partner and our 9yo daughter having keto dinners most nights so not having to prepare multiple meals.
Have had a couple of days of eating out and found keto-friendlier options. (One of my big fears was not having any options for eating out, though we don't do it often)
I'm finding it easy to motivate myself to get to the gym once a week, but want to try to add another 2 days a week over the next couple of months.

once you've become fat adapted, about 6 to 8 weeks in doing Keto the readings don't much matter as what they measure is just the ketones you have 'left over' in your pee! In other words the ones your body isn't actually using to keep working.

If you are following low carb/keto then eventually your body will probably be using most of the ketones it produces.
I agree though, in the early stages it's reassuring to see some pink so that you know it's working, the depth of colour doesn't matter.
