I agree with @Bovaryoo - I wish I'd known that once I lost the weight (on all my previous dieting attempts!) that I would need to continue to monitor (count calories) to keep the weight off!7 -
The most important lesson that I ever learned was taught by Weight Watchers. If I exercised, then I could earn more calories.
But, it was not until much later that I learned that I cannot solve a food portion bad habit by an exercising good habit.6 -
Tracking: good
Calories and portions: good
Exercise: walking more than 20 minutes.
No feeling healthy today.9 -
June 9:
Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes, 60 minute walk in high humidity. (That should count for extra minutes, right?!)
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes!
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes
I wish I would have learned one of the mantras that was recently posted here: you can't exercise away a bad diet.
I know I haven't shared anything personal yet, but this is my weight journey: I was super active in both competitive dance and sports all the way through college. Into my mid-30's, I stayed active, fit, and at healthy (and sometimes below healthy) weights. Though I never overate, I never thought about what I ate. At 35, an illness followed by an accident changed the types of exercise I could do for a long period, and I began overeating. When I recovered, I exercised with a vengeance, lost all the weight, but injured myself again. And so began what is now 6 years of yo-yo'ing. For the first time, I am exercising in moderation and REALLY paying attention to what I eat and how much I eat.12 -

Reporting in. So this evening, during my recent difficult "9 pm" habit, I popper a bag of microwave popcorn and drank club soda mixed with diet cran-mango drink. Solidly under and almost 4 miles walk today. So yes for today. So 4 pass, 5 non-pass. argh BUT I am doing well on my apple rings, out of the 9 I have only missed 1. Aiming for 27 out of 30 for June.8

I was doing really well today--staying on track with calories, exercising when I planned to. But then my husband suggested going out for dinner, for the first time since before the pandemic, and I just couldn't say no. Two fish tacos and a gigantic margarita later, it's pass day #4.
As others have said, I wish I'd learned earlier how much I actually enjoy running. I can't do it anymore, thanks to a bad knee, but knowing how much I love an endorphin high sometimes makes it easier to convince myself to exercise.8 -
@_JeffreyD_ Keep at it! We're all rooting for you!4

Will post my 3 before bed, but to @SModa61 ’s great query (I’m sorry this has been a trigger for you - really.)
What I wish I had known:
I wish I’d known to stick with the job that brought me joy & was 40 hrs a week & lower stress. It allowed me time to bike & purchase & cook healthy foods.
But I was bored, so everyone, family & employer, encouraged me to take a high pressured, longer hours, stress-filled more prestigious position. Everyone- but most of all ME forgot I had two serous illnesses- both of which become worse with stress & over time, both of which would have been better with continued exercise & healthy, home cooked meals.
I paid & now with COViD continue to pay the price for my desire for more intellectual stimulation when really I should have gone for a little boredom and a lot more health.
A couple of times I’ve taken on a short term consulting- both times stopped. Now, when people contact me, I say no. I’ve finally learned that I must treat caring for myself as my primary task. My eating habits & getting out for my walks take time (On this app, planning, scheduling, keeping unstressed, keeping inspired) & I have finally accepted that.
Sad as all this might sound, I have adapted & am very happy now with my new, joyful & relaxing, creative Artist Life that I have created these past 3 years or so.
