Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day?
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank?

Hi Friends!
I’m here today & tomorrow, braving the whole new format of MFP!! Impeccable timing! 😃
For many of us Food = Fun (or used to.)
So how can we discover non-Food ways to have fun? I’m sure you already have some!
But let’s try to uncover another one!!
TODAY: brainstorm (and share, if you’d like) a list of possible activities that (might) bring you joy.
Keep the activity in the 5-10 minute range
Do you notice an patterns re: what brings you joy?!
TOMORROW, if you like, we can choose one off our list or another member’s list.
- Try it!
- And let us know how it felt!
🌸Maddie
Why is this worth your time?
The more we find that we love to do, the less we will turn to food for comfort, entertainment, solace, enjoyment, companionship…
The less we turn to food (except for true hunger), the easier maintaining our weight loss will be.
And MAINTENANCE is the Goal!

I’ll go first:
Things I already do:
call a friend
walk
draw/create/collage/stitch/paint
post to MFP
watch an on-line class
put away my art supplies again
declutter a drawer or clear a task off my list
read a book
learn something
photograph nature
apply art apps to a photograph
Themes I notice: Social, Organizing, Creating, Learning, Out in Nature
NEW IDEAS:
put on music 🎶
begin writing ✍️ (after 6 years) again; finish the novel or set it aside, and begin afresh
do recycled plastic art outdoors
write a letter 💌 to someone I care about & mail it
dance 💃 🕺🏽
Take bubble bath 🛀 with candle 🕯
Design an online art class 🎨
Enjoy a cup of hot tea in our backyard d & watch the squirrels 🐿 busy at work
Peruse a magazine
write a poem, haiku
NEW THEMES I uncovered: MusIc, Writing, Self-Care/Relaxation, Dance, unconventional artmaking, Design curriculum

I absolutely LOVE your lists above and I think it does fill the need to eat mindlessly. 5-10 minute activities for me would include walking, meditation, drinking tea, writing or reading a letter, talking with family or friends, exercise classes, read, listen to music, tennis, gardening, cooking......
Exercise: Yes (walking) Calories under: Yes Tracked all: Yes
(1/3 pass days used so far)

Thank you @jjjcat ! I love your list, too!
once I took an honest look at how I had used food to handle many emotions- both positive & negative, I woke up!
at least for me (obese most of the time 1973-2018) my 3-year weight loss & then 3 years of maintenance have enabled me through tiny habits/insights to create a whole new life.
one of my tricks…if I’m bored, tired, or similar, rather than eat, I’ll do some task I don’t really want to do & the feelings of accomplishing that task, boost my mood MUCh more than Food would have!
this morning I listened to a book club (with experts) on the radio while I created. This is new for me & was really a perfect balance to the more physical stitching together of a collage I’d already (mostly) laid out last night.
hoping to find more things like this in the future!
best,
🌸Maddie

Such great lists!

Date: November 11th.
Gonna have to use a pass day today. I simply don’t feel like exercising and I’m not going to miss out on the cultural foods my country makes for winter. I want to enjoy it with my family. This is not a setback and I actually consider it a good thing. I let myself enjoy the food for the first time in a while; I often forget the fun and community feeling and just see it as fuel.
I’m committed to this challenge, but the reason I’m doing it in the first place is to feel better. Getting back on track tomorrow <3

I haven't posted in about 2 weeks. So I am getting my MFP all caught up today. I didn't have the McRib in my MFP so I just wrote it down on paper. However, a McRib is 520 calories and the fries are 340, which makes a McRib meal 860 calories and that blows my daily calorie limit. I am just glad that the McRib craze has settled for me and my son. Phew. Also more importantly I did have other life issues going on, I am still dealing with my eye issue, which I think it might be time to go to the regular medical doctor instead of the eye doctor, and I also helped with my neighbor and her family during her decline and passing away.
I thought I was going to rack up a lot of extra pass days from the McRib Feast 2021 lol but it was not as bad as I was thinking. I ended up for October with 15 pass days, which is an improvement from September!! September was bad with the pass days which was 21. My goal for November is to have fewer pass days than I did for October.
Here is my lump posting to get all caught up for November:
Nov 1 - pass day
Nov 2 - yesx3
Nov 3 - pass day
Nov 4 and 5 - yesx3
Nov 6 - pass day
Nov 7 to present - yes x3
I am currently at 3 pass days.
I hope everyone in the UAC is doing well :)

11/11/2021
Came back home today, and arrived back before it got dark so I got a quick bike ride in.
Exercise – yes
Tracking – yes
Calories – yes
What brings me joy?
Checking in with family – my daughter phones quite frequently and posts pictures of my grandchildren on our family whatsapp group – they bring me great joy.
Getting outside in the sun – getting more difficult now that winter is approaching.
Listening to a comedy on the radio. (sorry, that’s probably nearer to 30 minutes)
When you’re out walking or shopping, smile and say hello to people, pass the time of day with random strangers, just a few words can really make you both happy.
And of course, checking in with MFP, especially UAC for some words of wisdom, kitten pics (thanks @WhatMeRunning), grandbaby pics (@Mrs_Hoffer), beautiful scenery – too many to mention by name and even the horse pics (I’m not really a horsey person, but happy to look at lovely animals)

Pass day #6 (6th - 11th)
Can't wait for normal to return. Every day shows some signs of improvement and healing but anything even remotely starting to even resemble normal still seems very distant right now. This has been quite the experience, I'll say that.

Good luck with this. Its great you are still here :-) The thing with life is that it oscillates and if you are at the bottom of something at the moment the only way is up, and it will get better :-) Good luck

3x Yes today
1 Pass day
I love the lists so thanks.
The things that give me pleasure are.
Spending time with my kids
Spending time with God in prayer - ideally outside in nature
Reading the bible.
Listening to music
Reading a book on walking routes
Planning a walk in OS maps
I heard some great advice the other day from a old guy who recounted what his old professor taught him when he was still a kid. He suggested that every day we just look at something and appreciate the beauty in it. Not try and analyse it or work out anything about it but just appreciate it for what it is. I tried this today in some woods I drove though. The colours of the trees was fantastic. Normally I would be listening to music or the radio and not paying attention but just stopping and looking "out there" opened my eyes to a beautiful experience of something I wouldn't normally have even noticed.

Nov 11:
✅✅✅ Exercise today was yoga, crunches, some weight lifting (dumbbells), planks, counter push-ups. Also, a 5-mile walk outside, and giving massages today (my day off from my bank job!)
@MadisonMolly2017 you said "
one of my tricks…if I’m bored, tired, or similar, rather than eat, I’ll do some task I don’t really want to do & the feelings of accomplishing that task, boost my mood MUCH more than Food would have!"
I LOVE THIS IDEA!!!My list isn't very long - I will often go out for a walk! I also enjoy painting with watercolors, and of course, crocheting! 😊
I'm sorry I'm struggling so much with the new look of MFP. I'm so frustrated with it that I can't even see straight today! I log my food from the phone app, and thankfully that hasn't changed, so far. At least not that I can tell. Lol. I guess I don't do change very well, and I just have too much going on in my life right now to add the task of trying to re-learn how to get around in the community. I've done nothing but complain about it all day today.... I'll have to work harder on my attitude for tomorrow! 😣🤐😏😖😤

✅✅✅
HIIT class at gym.
Pass days remaining: 1
Opinions welcome - I’m about to paint a couple rooms over the next couple of days and I’m curious what the verdict is on if painting is considered an “exercise” for the purposes of MFP. I feel like hours of painting will make me hungrier and I should eat more, but it’s not an official exercise like cleaning is.

@Mrs_Hoffer, honey this new format is horrible! Please don’t apologize, life’s been a struggle for a lot of us. Your amazing everything you do for everyone. Its been raining cats and dogs the whole day, I’m so glad I hit the gym this morning .

Painting is exercise in my opinion.:) Lots of movement.

Exercise: 😀 Tracking: 😀 Calories: 😀

✅ x 3
This group went from easy to communicate to being a hassle. I use my phone to check in with MFP. The UAC group (or any community item) is not even visible on my phone. So I am logged in with my computer right now. (on the computer, it will not let me bookmark our discussions either) Thankfully, they did not mess with the diary on my phone. I suppose that is next.
rant finished.

Change is always difficult especially if one is not tech savvy that includes me my theory if it isn’t broke don’t fix it but…
I tracked logged exercises and stayed under its time for bed good night all or good morning depending on where you are in the world!
I have not had problems with my groups with my iPhone hopefully they won’t mess with that. I never use the home computer for these challenges my phone and iPad have always worked well. I am not sure how I feel about this format guess it will grow on me.

Yes x 3.
Love the questions: dancing, watching comedy, napping, hiking, listening to a good sermon, doing nothing.
@WhatMeRunning : sending good vibes on your recovery!!
Ditto to people's comments on the new MFP format. I thought it was a glitch because I'm using the Safari browser, but is this the new map look?

doing my "faux cross-stitch" (Cross-stitch World App) on my tablet .. while listening to a British murder mystery audio book
