HOW IT ALL WORKS:
Every challenger weighs in on their chosen day, every week without fail! At the end of each week, the tallies are done to determine the team and individuals with the most weight lost. The best losers are announced with full fanfare every Sunday. The team competition is all in good spirits - may the most losing win!
We also celebrate those small, steady losses. If you lose, however small an amount, you are in the green! At the end of the month, we celebrate everyone who lost at least a bit every week. You are heading steadily towards your goal even if you aren't at the top of the weight loss leaderboard!
To make your weigh-in easy to find for your team Captains, please put it right at the top of a message, and use this format:
Username:
Weigh In Day:
PW (Previous Weight):
CW (Current Weight):
If you miss two weigh-ins in a row without asking for a break, you will be dropped from the team, so be sure to inform your team captain if you are traveling, sick, or just need some time off. If you take a break, you are moved to the Support Team. You can remain on the Support Team for as long as you need to. You still participate in the discussions, you can weigh in if you want to, but it will not count in the weekly tally.
Once you reach your goal weight, you join the Goal Zone! You continue to weigh in every week. If you have 2 weeks above your self-defined goal zone, you go back to the regular team to lose that amount before it builds up. You will have a chance to hone those maintenance skills and stick with your team!
In addition to your own team, there are weekly F2F Full Group CHALLENGES. You can do all or none - it's up to you. Participating adds a lot to your success, so we hope to see you there often! These can involve anything fitness, health, or nutrition - and they’ll get you moving, thinking, and learning about this journey. Check the Announcements section for full group challenges.
Let’s show our fellow challengers some F2F love! Introduce yourselves right away, and let the new month begin!!

I am happy with this loss, but am still 1 lb up from my pre-Thanksgiving weight. But I definitely plan on enjoying some holiday treats this month so we’ll see how it goes.
@justanotherloser007 congrats on reaching 100 lbs lost! That is awesome!💥🎉👍8 -
Hello December chat & new Team!
Quick intro: Started this group in Sept (SW 147) after being in MFP for a while and going through gains/losses (yo-yo'ing) over past few years. I work a very sedentary job and seemingly small gains in weight make a notable difference on my 5’2 frame, not to mention my energy levels.
- The objective was to start at a slower pace/focus with the help of this group/community for added accountability.

Hi everyone!!
My name is Casandra and I'm from Ontario Canada. I have been a MFP member for a long time and have a long standing history of loosing and gaining the same weight over and over again. Since joining this group I been much more consistent and have been fluctuating much less.
December Goal: maintain my current exercise routine through the holidays and to not use the holidays as an excuse to over indulge everyday. Remind myself that I am ME, it's ok to be different.

FAQ for New Shape Shifters Members
How do I post my weigh in?
Userid
(Day of Week) Weigh-in
PW: 204 lbs (previous weight)
CW: 202 lbs (current weight)
LTD: 12 lbs (optional loss to date)
How often should I post in the chatroom?
Whenever you have a question, suggestion, story, news announcement or just want to brighten someone's day!! There's never too much...and please share recipes, tips, laughs, challenges, cartoons, pictures of your pets, pictures from walks you've taken, etc...we love it all!!
What if I have to be out of town during my weigh in?
Send a message to one of the Captains (JessicaKrall8 or TheMrWobbly) in the chatroom or in a private message on MFP's mail and let her know your circumstance...if it's just for a week or two, you can be excused from the weigh-in. If you must leave for longer than a month, you may be moved to our support team until you return. When you're ready to come back, send another message and the MODS will move you back to active status.
What happens if I miss a weigh in?
If you're late, you'll be marked as LWI (late weigh in). If you fail to report in at all, you'll be labeled as NWI (no weigh in). After two NWIs, you're put on the drop list if you explanation has been provided. It's always best to let your Captain know what's going on and she'll make sure you're covered.
How do I sign up for the Step Challenge?
Send the Captains a message that you'd like to join, provide your daily step goal and tell her your favorite place to walk. It's that simple!
Do I have to re-register each month to remain part of Team Shape Shifters?
No, your membership will carry over month to month. The only place where this is NOT true is for the Step Challenge. You have to sign up each month to participate in it and this gives you the opportunity to adjust your daily step goal.
If I've missed anything or questions arise, just post them! We'll find the information you need as much as possible! Hope this helps!
Welcome!

Hi team! I’m really looking forward to getting to know everyone in our new team, so I’ll go ahead and introduce myself.
I live in Finland with my husband and our 6-week-old baby daughter. I just turned 30 in November and our baby was born in October, so it’s safe to say I have entered a brand new phase of my life. I’m on maternity leave until next fall and plan on spending this time focusing on our baby and my health.
I have 19 pounds of baby weight to go (out of 40+, so more than halfway there!) and about 45lbs of general pre-baby obesity to lose after that. I’m currently losing 2-ish lbs per week without even trying due to breastfeeding and recovering from birth, but I don’t expect that to continue on forever. I’m on support team until January as I’m not yet medically cleared for any other exercise than walking. My postpartum checkup is in two weeks and I’ll hopefully be cleared then, but the holiday season is rolling onto us so I won’t resume regular weigh-ins until after. I know my current loss rate as I weigh myself at the maternity clinic during our daughter’s appointments to get an idea of whether I’m going in the right direction.
My December goals are to get medical clearance and start figuring out a workout plan and schedule for myself and a sleeping schedule for our baby, so I’m more capable human and less zombie.7 -
Hello everyone!
It is Sunday morning here and I am ready to start the month. Very excited about our new team and getting to know more people! My name is Laura, I am 33 years old and I live in a lovely town in the Netherlands with my cat. There is a National Park fairly close to my home where I love to walk and take pictures. I also enjoy reading, singing, gaming, jigsaw puzzles and drinking piles of tea. I suffer from chronic fatigue so it can be hard to do stuff. My main focus is going to the gym 3 times a week. I wish I was able to go for walks more often, but lately I haven't managed. My diary is open (and very boring) and I am also happy to accept friend requests.
Review November goals:
- Steps of 10.000 a day were a total win!
- Goal weight was 197.9 and my Saturday weigh in was 196.0 so another win!
December goals:
Steps 11.000 minimum a day
Goal weight 192.2
Another attempt to focus more on protein. I want to get enough at least 6 out of 7 days of the week.
I hope everyone will have a great December with a lot of small victories and healthy changes.
Good luck team!4 -
@leni1us - I was posting a reply in last month’s Shrinking Assets space just as it closed and we moved here. So, this message is a bit out of context. I just wanted to respond to you after you took the time to answer the questions I posed yesterday.
Leni1us: “I've been on a low carb diet since February. This involved red meat, cheese, fish, vegetables, bacon, butter, berries, cream, etc. After routine bloodwork, my cholesterol was super high (300). High cholesterol runs in my family so...my low carb diet shot my cholesterol to the stratosphere. My Dr. wants me to follow a Mediterranean diet to get my cholesterol under control (I guess it's been proven to lower cholesterol). A lot of that way of eating is counter to a low carb diet - the focus is on beans, whole grains, fruits like pears, apples and bananas. Red meat, eggs, shellfish and high fat dairy are a "no go or very limited.”
Thanks so much for describing your shift from a low carb diet to Mediterranean. That’s a big change! The extra hereditary hurdle is difficult but it’s good you’re working with your doctor to improve your cholesterol numbers as much as possible!
leni1us - “I'm not trying to be perfect just continue to lose weight and manage my health.I ordered a couple of Med cookbooks. Hopefully, they will help me.”
You have a great attitude and solid approach to finding a path forward. I appreciate you sharing your approach so we can all learn together. We have different goals but we’re on a similar journey to improve ourselves. So, it’s helpful to learn from other experiences. Best wishes to you, and all the Shape Shifters as we start a new month!4 -

Hello, Shape Shifters! I’m looking forward to getting to know you all better — and supporting one another to reach our individual and team goals!
December Introduction: My name is Patrice and I live with my husband (and 11 year old Boston Terrier) in Alexandria, Virginia just south of Washington, DC (USA). We have two adult sons (ages 21 and 20) who are living on their college campuses, 8 hours by car in either direction (Boston College in MA and Clemson in SC). My husband and I both grew up in Boston, Massachusetts, where our families still live — and we miss the ocean! So, we visit our friends and family whenever we can, especially since our relatives there are getting older and require more care. The cousins are all close in age and always have fun together. So, we feel as though we have two ‘homes’ and love certain aspects of both our ‘hometowns’.
Now, I spend a lot of my free time rowing 8-person ‘sweep’ boats on the Potomac River, which separates the District of Columbia and Virginia; and, since the pandemic, I’ve been ‘sculling’ on the Anacostia River between DC and Maryland. The commute is longer (20-30 minutes by car instead of a 10-minute bike ride) because our local boathouse closed during the pandemic. We had to learn some new skills to use the narrower one-person boats with two oars, but the individual boats enabled us to adhere to social distancing requirements.
We felt so fortunate that the new group welcomed us and we enjoyed seeing so much wildlife (e.g., white egrets, blue heron, eagles, deer and river otter). In the middle of the city, it felt like an oasis! The rowing season ended in early November so I’m working to build a new fitness routine. The transition has been challenging but I’m slowly finding some equilibrium.
TL/DR version: I reached my goal weight in September 2021 and my maintenance zone is 120-130. In the coming year, I’m going to concentrate on body recomposition. Here are my current stats:
Female age 55, just under 5’4 tall (162 cm)
SW: 168
CW: 125.2
LTD: 42.8
Background & MFP Story: I started using MFP in December 2019, but it took a few months to build the habit of tracking my food and exercise. By March 2020, I was doing better with logging and increased my awareness about correct portion sizes and other aspects of my nutrition.
Around that time, the coronavirus outbreak was spiking in Boston, where our older son attends college, and it reached our area of the city in March. The first case was documented at my younger son’s high school in mid-March so our older son came home and our family began quarantining. In the early days, we were still learning a lot about the virus - and there wasn’t much I could control - so I decided to continue focusing on my health. My BMI was in the overweight category so I thought improving my health could reduce the likelihood of contracting or suffering the effects of COVID.
Work was terribly busy for me at this point and I knew that exercise and good nutrition would be a good counter balance. I support large-scale education and health (including mental health and wellness initiatives) in cities and states. So, the shift to virtual learning and Telehealth was stressful for many people. Since I have experience facilitating a lot of online work over the past 20+ years, it was rewarding to help make a difference during such a time of uncertainty. Stressful but rewarding!
Despite all the hardships of the pandemic, I’m grateful for the quality time we spent with our two sons when life slowed down. They are both at college now and the opportunity to be together - without as many competing activities - was very special. Our family established a fun mealtime routine, rotating cooking dinners in pairs. It created a little friendly competition to prepare healthy and delicious meals, and we had some deep conversations on a wide range of topics. We also hiked with our dog, practiced tennis on the outdoor courts, and spent time in the park playing a game called Spike Ball. I wasn’t very good at the game but it kept me moving!
In April 2020, I started posting in the MFP community forums and steadily lost about one pound a week, reaching a ‘normal’ BMI at 140 pounds at the end of September 2020. That was my most satisfying milestone! As I moved toward my goal weight of 125, it became increasingly difficult to persist through the (appropriate but) slower weight loss. I definitely shifted my thinking to embrace the idea of adopting positive habits for a lifetime - rather than reaching a particular weight on a rigid timeline - but it was an adjustment.
I joined the Fat to Fit group in June 2021 at about 135 pounds, 10 pounds from my goal weight, for additional accountability and support. One year after attaining a normal BMI, I achieved my MFP goal weight of 125. So, it took me about a year to shed the last 15 pounds but I hope the time was well-spent in developing the lifestyle changes I’ll need to maintain my weight between 120-130.
My goal for the coming year is to improve my strength, balance, and flexibility. I’m scheduled for a DEXA screening in January 2022 to establish baseline information about my body fat, bone density, etc. Then, I plan to make an appointment with a registered dietitian, who is also certified in personal training, to set up a nutrition plan. I’m hoping to check in with her annually on my progress for extra accountability. I’ll use the DEXA results and nutrition plan to develop a couple of clear and realistic goals for the coming year.
In addition to focusing on body recomposition, I’m trying to declutter and downsize the number of things we’ve accumulated over the years. I appreciate the support of this group as I face a number of personal and professional changes during this new ‘empty nester’ phase of my life. I appreciate all of your insights and welcome any advice. Best wishes, Shape Shifters. I’ll look forward to hearing about your progress and/or what you’re learning as you advance toward your goals.
P.S. I apologize for the ridiculously long introduction but we’re all caught up now! 😉5 -

Lol, it’s a holiday weekend here so I’m thrilled! It’s independence day here (Finland) so we’re celebrating, and most importantly, since it’s a long weekend I got to sleep for 4.5 hours straight as my husband takes the baby night shift on weekends so I get to sleep and only have to wake up to pump milk, which is what I’m doing now and then I get to go back to bed. Getting almost 5 straight hours of sleep is a lot with a 6-week-old, I think, and I get to go right back to sleep with good chances of getting another 2-3 hours before the baby wakes again.
Independence day tends to be quite somber here due to being a young country and fighting for it again during WW2 and some veterans of those wars still being alive - no fireworks, bbqs or street carnevals here. First my mom is picking up my sister, me and the baby to go see a wreath laying ceremony at the military memorial, and we’ll visit the nearby grave of my great-grandpa who was a veteran and ended up a high-ranking general later in life. Then my husband is joining us at mom’s house and we’ll have a celebratory meal. This year the meal feels extra special as it’s our daughter’s first independence day, plus we’re having all the yummy foods and delicacies I wasn’t allowed to eat during pregnancy.7 -

Ramblings of the day
Good morning team. I had an eventful Sunday morning. When I went outside in the backyard with my cat Tinus, we heard a lot of noise and flapping in the neighbours garden. Through the fence I could see there was a heron in his pond, trying and failing to get out. So I quickly took Tinus back inside and went over to his yard. His shutters were still down so my neighbour wasn't up yet. There is netting over the pond, but it has a hole in the top around the middle so I guess the heron somehow managed to get inside through that hole. Of course he was very afraid of me and tried to get out, flapping against the netting. I got a corner loose and open, at which point the heron thankfully had calmed down a bit. Just by walking slowly around the point, I could somewhat steer it towards the open side. It didn't take him long to figure out he could get out and he flew off shortly after.
While this makes for an interesting story to tell, I am also pretty annoyed it happened at all. This was totally preventable if the pond had proper and whole netting protecting the fish. There was no need for this poor bird to get so stressed, nor for the fish to suddenly have a killer in their home without anywhere to escape. The pond isn't that big so I am sure the heron made breakfast out of some of them.
The rest of my day was not as interesting. I washed and put on the fresh bedsheets which is always very nice when going to bed. My mood kind of took a dive later in the day and I had too much food. Nothing I can't fix within a couple of days though.
Happy Monday everyone4 -

@hipari Happy Independence Day!! I bet that 5 hrs of sleep felt like 10!!! Hope you have a wonderful, peaceful day talking about memories of your great grandfather and other family...enjoy! I used to go to many of the military memorial services in my hometown (Paris, Kentucky, USA) when I was growing up...my Grandfather (he passed in 1976) served in the Army during WWII and my father (he passed in 1979) during Korea so I understand completely the pride that is felt. Nice to hear of the history of Finland! I've only seen pictures, but it's a beautiful country...would love to see it someday!

Hey Everyone!
I weighed myself this morning, got excited...then I completely forgot what the scale said (inserts eye roll). I have a Withings scale however, it takes awhile for it to sync anything (es lento a veces - it is slow sometimes). So hopefully my photogenic memory kicks in or the stupid scale syncs to every device I have. Happy Monday!6 -

Hi all. I'm a former Trimstones captain that self-demoted to the bleachers due to a changed work schedule and general incompetence. We are in good hands with Jessica as she is all over this thing. I'm in New Mexico (Albuquerque/Rio Rancho area) and a long time MFP'er. I'm one of those sorry souls that lost 66 and then gained about half of that back. I'm struggling to lose the Covid 20 I gained with all that telework and general stress eating. I'm hoping to get my mojo back and at least get back to an early 2020 state if not below. Love to hear about your Finnish holiday, really interesting history. My niece is marrying a lad who has Finnish relatives, she has visited them twice now. Finland's geography is much like the northern half of my home state of Minnesota (cool, lakes, mosquitoes and pine trees).1 -
Hi, I’m Cindy, coming in from Shrinking Assets. I’m 62 and live in Fort Worth Texas with my recently-retired husband. We have a 28 yo son in Washington DC and a 24 yo daughter in Houston, TX. I’ve struggled with my weight most of my adult life, topping out around 245 or so. I’m now maintaining around 194 but my weight has been slowly creeping up in the past 6 weeks or so. We took a post-retirement trip to Europe in August and after returning, I apparently forgot how to cook!
One thing I’ve discovered about myself is that it is difficult for me to lose weight unless I am hyper-focused, yet that type of focus is not sustainable. So I need to figure out some balance. The holidays and post-holidays are always a challenge for me so my goal for the next month is to just survive it without too much damage.
One good thing is that I am incorporating exercise into my daily routine (but of course you can’t out-exercise calories consumed!) I had a knee injury in 2019, along with bone-on-bone arthritis so my exercise goals are mostly to keep my body parts healthy and moving. I’ve been doing yoga for almost 3 years, and I work out with a trainer 3x week (for nearly two years). I am stronger, and even though my weight hasn’t dropped a lot, my body composition has changed, and I am grateful for that.
I am currently reading the book “Atomic Habits” and have had several “ah-ha” moments right off the bat. I am taking notes and looking forward to delving deeper into it, with the intention of incorporating some of the ideas into my weight loss journey.5
