I have been sick all week with a terrible cold (not COVID, thankfully - I had that during the summer and that was awful) so I have not really tracked or worked out this week at all. I am starting to feel better today and if all goes well, Iβll be at a Friendsgiving tomorrow.
I also have two work events next week over the course of 3 days, which means eating out at restaurants or catered dinners. I am going to try my best to be mindful with moderation and I am going to pack gym clothes so I can get a workout in.6 -

Whilst I wish I didnβt have a gain, I did three TRX workouts this week, a lululemon workout and had two perfect days.

@jugar How dare I say that! You were on my mind last night. Brad and I went to a candlelight concert in the Hangar Museum here where a string quartet did the music of Coldplay. I was front row and as someone who is a major appreciator of music but with no musical talent myself, it's amazing to watch talented musicians do their thing! What you do is so impressive to me because the result is so beautiful and therapeutic for people and it's truly an amazing skill.
@micki48 You are absolutely worth it if that's something that will make you feel good. Your steps truly are up from being at school - I've been noticing! Getting out of the breakfast club will help for sure. You have been so consistent with tracking before - I've seen those diaries. You can do this. I know for me working out at home is easier because I would opt out a lot if I had to convince myself to commute to a gym. But we all need to do what motivates us!4 -
I hope everybody is looking forward to the weekend. I needed mine badly!
Last night I finished work at 8pm (instead of 5pm) then crashed and burned so no walk, then yesterday was the first day that I didn't write my CBT or finish tracking my food since I made those commitments. I remembered when I was in bed, so put the food notes in my phone to write up today and did the CBT in my head. I'd hidden the paper as our lovely cleaner was here then I guess I mentally checked out.
Today I've felt completely flat.. I've brightened up a bit as the day has gone on and hope that continues. OH is working this weekend (actually working then coursework as well) so I'm planning lots of me time at the allotment and home. Currently catching up with some admin. I spotted this recipe for hasselback butternut squash on FB, so I've just added it to our 'cook book' to try in the not too distant future!4 -
Good morning everyone!

Up a little this week, which makes sense- I didn't meal prep, so my protein intake was way down all week. That, paired with the candy still hanging around, has made for a bad week. Not over maintenance bad, though! You know what they say, fail to plan and you plan to fail.
So this week, I'm turning it around: I've prepped breakfasts and lunches for the week, and I'm going to pre-log them for each day in MacroFactor.
Breakfasts are veg and a slice of lebanon balogna with egg whites, lunch is the same, but instead of egg whites, some roasted red pepper soup I made this morning. Snacks are an apple each day, and after I pre-log I'll see if I need to add more protein in there somewhere.
Next week is also a gym-heavy week, which will be great- this week was light on the gym due to some family events we had going on.
Have a great week, everyone!
@ashleycarole for this week, I only took two classes, 120 minutes. next week will be better!6 -
Great share @DD265 with that squash recipe - looks amazing! Could pack some calories but I'd be willing to 'starve' much of the day to give that a try. Nice website too - the butternut laksa looks good too.
Feeling very satisfied with my outdoor accomplishments today and my eating was just fine - especially considering the # of steps (must get my fitbit back on). Heavy rain tonight and then tomorrow treating myself (timewise) to a free improv quilting class - I'm on the email list to be a guineapig as the teacher tries out new teaching methods for her techniques. So 5 mostly stationary hours but I'll make an effort to get a lot of steps in around that.

@jugar @ashleycarole86 @lauren_989 - thanks for the message of support after last week's news. Means a lot.
@jugar - I will request a pass again this week, see how next week goes, and I'll make a decision re: need to take a longer break. I really hope to feel more like myself/be back at it by next week.
I'm sorry for being MIA this week. Still working my way through things. I'll need to get caught up with everyone's news/updates over the weekend.
I got out for a walk today - first time in a long time. We have a trail around the corner, and I saw the usual critters - chickadees, blue jays, red squirrels and black squirrels - without anyone else around. Nature-loving introvert heaven.
For my mom's memorial, I made up little packets of bird seed with a card in it saying to "Please feed the birds in loving memory of" my mom. She loved birds/birding. We had some extra packets, so I took one with me and left birdseed along the trail. I plan to take one with me on future walks - more inspiration to get out there and have a little moment remembering my mom.
The plan this weekend is to regroup, reset, and recommit to healthy choices.
Hope everyone had a great week and has a good weekend ahead.6 -
@wishfuljune hope you'll be feeling tip-top soon. Good idea to pack the workout clothes and plan those meals out - you've got this
@LoraineGB TRX - the best! I really enjoy those. And they're easy to have at home.
@ashleycarole86 sounds like a fun concert! It is always wonderful when people really put themselves into live performance - on both sides of the stage. The way an audience listens is a fabulous performance too, and those of us doing the performance know and feel that. Thanks!
@kellie_erin I put your info in the spreadsheet - no worries! You are ramping those workouts up, and it will be fun going to the gym with a friend. Enjoy!
SO - last weigh-ins of the week on deck. This one sure whizzed by. Who's up?

Sorry, I'm adding to the red this week. I'm not surprised, my eating has been all over the place due to the week off from work and my horrible sleeps4 -
Thank you all for the well wishes. We are home and Mabel is doing well. We spent 34 hours in the ER because the Peds floor was full and there were 8 kids waiting ahead of us. She spent 16 hours on the peds floor and then we got to go home yesterday. She didn't even look sick yesterday, but her oxygen had dropped during the night so they waited until after nap time to send us home to make sure her oxygen didn't drop.
I lived on snack, barely moved my body, and didn't sleep for 3 days. Today, I cleaned house, worked out, and ate all the veggies.7 -
@CupcakeCrusoe Got it! If you happen to have gotten any more classes in yesterday or today, let me know and I will be sure to add that to your week 2 tally!3
-
Glad Mabel is home @KellyBgetsfit . It's exhausting to have a family member in the hospital. Sounds like today was a good reset day for you.
@jane_76 The birdseed sounds like a perfect tribute to your mom. Lots of moments to come in the near future where her loved ones get to think of her as they use it and have a special moment with the birds.4 -
Yesterday for our hike we returned to Sulphur Mountain. It had been about a year since we last did that and it was fun to see our fitness improvement. We did the hike at a pace that was about 4.5 mins/km faster than a year ago. The weather was pretty decent and we (especially Brad) overdressed. Rookie mistake!
Today we have been out running errands and I've been fairly sedentary so far but I intend to hop on the Peloton when I get home.4 -
Exercise:
11/6 - 9117 steps + 46 minutes Peloton
11/7 - 3674 steps + 47 minutes Peloton
11/8 - 8312 steps
11/9 - 8022 steps
11/10 - 9852 steps
11/11 - 18140 steps1 -
@jane_76 feeding the birds on a walk is one of my favourite things. When you step away a couple of feet then turn back and they're already tucking in... It feels right. I hope it helps.
I've had the results of my healthcheck back... Aside from the obvious of my weight, I have a 'red flag' for heart disease and stroke risk due to my BMI (34.3). It also looks like my kidneys aren't functioning as efficiently as they could be; creatinine is a bit high and eGFR is a bit low.Creatinine is a chemical waste product of muscle metabolism, which is removed from the blood by the kidneys. Common causes of a raised creatinine level include high muscle mass, high protein intake, impaired kidney function and some medications. Creatinine levels do not correlate smoothly with kidney function, because the creatinine level is also affected by your age, race, sex, and body size. [..] The eGFR is estimated using your creatinine level and also takes into account your age and sex.
Next step: speak with a GP this coming week, and see if I can get that dietician referral.6 -
I am sorry!
I forgot to post my weigh in again π©
PW 226.8 lbs
CW 225.0 lbs
@jugar
Liselyn, can I please change my weigh in days to Sundays? Fridays are pretty busy for me and I always forget to post.
Sundays are my days off so no excuse! πππ5 -
As we slide through the time zones into Sunday, things are looking good! Only 2 more weigh-ins to receive, and we are sitting pretty at 16.4 pounds lost. I have a strong feeling we're going to be #1 again this week! We are doing great for November, so let's keep it up! I know our US members will be celebrating Thanksgiving during week 4, so take the time to plan well and build a fabulous week 3.
@kellie_erin you are but the palest shade of pink this week. 0.1 lb - a tiny fluctuation! Keep working on that sleep and all the good things - we're cheering for you!KellyBgetsfit wrote: Β»I lived on snack, barely moved my body, and didn't sleep for 3 days. @DD265 that is all great information to have as you keep working on health and taking good care of yourself. I always thought that your protein consumption was very high when you described your meals - it will be very interesting to speak with a dietician and find just the right balance. You lift hard, so maybe it is not the dietary intake at all, but simply your awesome muscles, but it sure will be good to figure it all out.
I had a food vs muscle building lesson today, too. For a couple of years (or more!) my exercise has been less intense, especially as far as strength building goes. I have moved more and more towards Pilates and relatively steady state aerobics, even though it gets hard like snowshoeing. My new trainer has taken me seriously when I said I was worried about losing muscle as I age, and boy oh boy this workout is kicking my butt! This is my 2nd week on it, and today was better than last week, but I was feeling pretty shaky by the time I finished. I think I need to work on the eating/workout timing better. It is so interesting to feel how differently my body reacts since the last time I did this kind of workout - I guess it is true that things go a bit slower in your late 60s. Dang! I'm determined to build some more strength even if it takes longer, though.5 -

Absolutely! Since tomorrow is the first day of week 3, you won't have to weigh in again until the beginning of week 4. Be forewarned that I tend to forget to remind the Sunday people about their upcoming weigh-ins! Saturdays are busy in here, and I often forget... But at least you have a few days before I come after you with the serious nagging4 -
Peloton ride done. My muscles are feeling it!! That hike yesterday activated some things.. and then I layered the bike on top of it today. It's the good kind of ache. Brad is in there biking away now! I do feel much better when my exercise is up.5

This is fabulous - we can ache together from far away!4 -
Late again. Up again.
PW 210.8
CW 211.9 itβs hopeless. Sorry.
I am in pain from sciatica that came out of no where after I got up today. Some stretches helped, but the pain was making me nauseous.
Ugh. I cannot keep it together. Maybe if I could lose some weight this wouldnβt happen.

@micki48 sorry to hear of your sciatica, I know that is a devilishly painful thing to have. Hope it disappears as quickly as it's come on.
@jane_76 What a truly lovely way to remember your mother. My mum died early August and for the first couple of months it was 'ok' and calm, after the awful last year, but now the finality of it is sinking in. Catches me at any time of the day or night.
Well, it's Sunday morn and it's been a productive and enjoyable holiday weekend. Final chores to do because we'll finally have a hard frost this week (#1get the dahlias & cannas dug). Hard to believe I have ripe tomatoes on the counter to add to my salad today. A pot on the stove with a dozen eggs boiling away- one of my #1 go to food when running out of time to make something healthy, 1 makes every salad taste better, and such an easy grab and go.
Must go to the dump/tip today too, and after I've dumped, will drive up the hill to the leaf/branch section and peruse the pumpkins/winter squashes dumped - it's amazing that our community buys loads of edible fancy squashes for decoration and then dumps them - it's food. There are Musque de Provence, Blue Hubbard, etc.. Will make an effort again this year to find a soup kitchen somewhere that might make a fabulous soup with them - I can only make so much. Damaged ones get tossed in the field for the critters, this big guy, and loads of does, opossum, raccoons, red & gray squirrels, too.

Why didn't I take 98 more steps on Monday π I should look at my steps daily instead of reflecting back over the week and then I might have taken those steps!
@jugar I jogged 3 times this week at OTF π7 -
This week has been so-so in terms of eating. My dad came to visit on Wednesday and then left yesterday. We went out to lunch one day, which I wasn't expecting, but I was able to chose a low calorie option from the menu which was good. He had wanted to go to Golden Corral (buffet) and I only had 1 plate of food and then a small dessert! That is a big win for me. However, I also did eat some candy at a movie we went to see and a cookie from Crumbl cookies (these are on different days). We walked most days and did some work around the house. I haven't weighed myself recently, but my goal is for a perfect day today! I have plans to go to the gym, and have my meals planned out π4
