Hello, I am new here, and I was wondering if any of you would like to share any useful tips or practices that helped them overcome emotional eating.

Hi, welcome. I found I had more control over my emotional eating/binging when I figured out my triggers and replacing the bad habit with a more positive one. For example, night time gives me anxiety, I noticed I get snacky once the sun goes down, therefor I send myself to bed earlier. Farther away from the kitchen and it’s easier to distract myself with other activities like reading or playing on my phone. Another example, I get stressed and reach for sugar, instead I drink water or exercise until the urge for sugar passes. If after 20 minutes the craving has remained I will eat a serving of fruit and a source of protein. So for me I had to figure out why I was reaching for food and drink to soothe myself. Once I realized my weaknesses, like stress, tiredness, anxiety, and convenience I was able to find better replacements. It takes time to rebuild a better habit. Just practice.2

Thank you I am still trying to figure out my habits and triggers; I do reach out for food as you said for soothing and comfort. I will keep trying to build a new habit.

i think a good way is to just stop buying the food your overeating on so when you feel the need to its not there.2
